10% off at Book Depository
This was posted 470 days ago, and might be an out-dated deal
If you like reading books, you’ll like this!
This Bank Holiday weekend (plus a few more days - Thursday 21st May and Tuesday 26th May) www.BookDepository.co.uk is offering an extra 10% discount on all their books.
Just use the promotional code SVVLV on Friends and Family Offer page to save an additional 10% on their (already really rather excellent) prices & don’t forget they have free delivery to over 90 countries around the world!
I just ordered last night too! Darn. Now I’ll just have to think of something else to order to take advantage of this offer! :)
It’s always worth checking first on booko, but 95% of the time The Book Depository wins out.

Book Depository is so damn good already.
I ordered 6 books from them a couple of weeks ago, they came within 8 business days. A relatively similar priced cheap bookstore - Better World in the US - I ordered 6 books on the 17th of April… still no show.
Book Depository + 10% discount? Pure gold.
Wow, excellent post KingLouis! What a great deal!
Although I did buy a book a few days ago, I held off on a lot of other titles on my wishlist. This 10% discount came just at the right time, especially with the AUD on a little bit of a rebound!
OK Sike, so that code also gives a 10% discount then, so the same “benefit” as SVVLV.
All good!
I just don’t understand why I haven’t rec’d an e-mail about this promo’.
Oh well, OzBargain to the rescue again.

@megaloman: Were they single books? I never got mine in anything bigger than single envelopes — even when my order had multiple books. The envelopes were the bubble wrap padded kind, though, so unless the postman was extra careless with yours… :(
Awesome deal! Was just thinking about buying some stuffs. ^^ Will definitely have to do it, now, hehe..now the question is whether it’s cheaper with 2.5% (Commbank) credit card international charge, or using the weaker USD in my paypal account…
my last order was 2 weeks ago for 5 books. The books were pack individually (one book per pack). The first three arrived at the same time within 8 days; two with hard card box and one with bubble wrap. The rest of the books came later in the week inside bubble wraps. By the way, they were all paperback photography books, quite heavy and about A4 size. Perhaps they use hard card box because of the size?
Thanks for the suggestion, sadly, though, maybe cos I’m a poor student…-wry-
“We’re sorry, but based on the information you’ve provided, we’re unable to offer you a Wizard Clear Advantage MasterCard, as your application doesn’t fall within our current acceptance guidelines.”
Sigh. :(
awesome deal, hmm didn’t think about the charge with credit card and paypal being usd, i just used paypal, it was easier.
If you prefer to be charged in USD, you can set Book Depository to display and charge in USD via the drop-down menu in the top right corner of any page on the Book Depository website.
That blanket statement can be slightly misleading given the fluid nature of international currency. In any case I have had a look at what works out better in the past and a lot of the times the conversions tend to be fairly similar.
eg: Currently: Tom Clancy Splinter Cell
In GBP = £5.33 = $10.8868378 AUD (@ 1 AUD = 0.489582018 GBP)
In USD = $8.42 = $10.8589115 AUD (@ 1 AUD = 0.7754 USD)
True, although it is also worth pointing out that with Mastercard and Amex (maybe Visa too) all transactions processed in a currency other than USD or AUD are converted into USD before being converted to AUD. This is using the current rate as set by the card provider though and this maye be better than the Book Depository rate.
Yeah I’ve read something about that. That means that Book Depository GBP prices are first converted to USD and then finally to AUD, right? Just seems a bit convoluted to me, plus it makes the final AUD price a bit more variable given that the final AUD price depends on the cross conversion rates between GBP-USD and USD-AUD, which may be better or worse than the direct GBP-AUD rate. Bloody banks!
Surely the prices can’t be all that different even if the conversion is done twice?
Unless books sell for thousands of dollars each, this should just be a difference of a few dollars at most, since most of the paperbacks there are around $8-10AUD and the hardcovers are like $20-30AUD
Except that every currency conversion transaction has a profit margin (charge) built into it…
I do know that international M’card transactions used to be all converted via USD to AUD in years gone by, but I’m not so sure that that is still the case.
Perhaps someone out there that has current knowledge of these international banking transactions could please clarify/verify???

I got a “change in your T&C” booklet this week and it’s still in there.
Just placed three orders, discount worked each time. Might place a few more orders before it expires! Thanks once again to KingLouis!
arhg I can’t seem to find where to put the additional 10% coupon code! I did it yesterday without issue.
It’s during checkout right?
http://yfrog.com/0kcheckoutj
Or, you could say that you saved 10% more than you would have without the coupons :D
The ‘best’ I could muster was $365. Oh well, they were all titles that were on my wishlist anyway, so I would have bought them somewhere down the track. Just feels a bit thrifty because it was all in one hit. At least I saved 10% :)
I should point out for those that are wondering how to actually use the promotional code, go to http://www.bookdepository.co.uk/fandf (friends and family) and then select the link to “go shopping”. At the checkout page you’ll see a textfield for the promotional code.
If you’re still looking to take advantage of this offer, you better get in quick. Technically it should be expired (it is now 27 May in the UK) but the website still seems to be accepting the code, though who knows how long it will continue for.
Edit: It’s over.
