Fine dinning restaurant has no tissues

Currently im on my South Australia road trip and its my last day in Adelaide from sydney. I was going through china town for some chinese food, found this place called
"Ba Guo Bu Yi, Fine Chinese Cruisine"
When I finally was seated I was told that their wet towels cost 53c! It was on the table and i was about to open it! And then fine, I asked for normal tissues, and was told they had no tissues! Out of my 31 years of my life I have never even seen such routed system in a restaurant! Totally not going there again.

Must be owned by an OzBargainer…

  • Makes you wonder what tricks they pull to maximise the profit with their food… ?? :-(
"Boutique" or "fine dining" restaurants … pass.

    • Actually the reason Asian restaurants cut corners like the op, is because you get bang for your buck when it comes to the food.

For me just the bang will do.

        • I see new restaurants opened by the 2nd gen (Aust Born)… they look nicer, they're more westernised, but the portions are halved and you pay double…

This is pretty standard practice in Asian countries. Never seen it in Australia personally.

Well in Asia they don't give water and needs to be charged, over here it's free but surprisingly some places still don't serve tap water and is illegal. I think tissues are also something that has been placed under same thing?

If you serve alcohol or use msg in food you must provide free water.

Did they have a tablecloth? If so, problem solved. :-)

53 cents, so it can be potentially rounded up to 55 cents depending on the end total. Sneaky.

The burning question is - do they also change for toilet tissue?

    Hurry Curry Restaurant Extras…

    50c - Toilet Paper
90c - toilet Paper from Freezer

    • You forgot to add $2 toilet usage charge.

That place definitely isn't a 'fine dining' restaurant, despite the fact that they have the word 'fine' in their name. Only has two dollar signs on Urbanspoon and reviews say it's moderately priced…

Just because it has "Fine" in its name doesn't mean it's actually a fine dining restaurant. Indicators of a fine dining restaurant include cloth table covers and cloth napkins. Also, I'd question any place that claims they serve "Cruisine".

As an Adelaide local, and frequenter of Chinatown, I'm hard pressed to think of a venue around there that I would class as close to "Fine Dining". Gaucho's, perhaps, but that's it… some of the places are nice-ish, but I wouldn't go so far as fine dining…

That said, I have also never been charged for serviettes/tissues along that street either…

  • I agree with using the table cloth if they refuse to provide serviettes of some sort- while this is common in Asia meals are usually so cheap you don't mind paying extra. In Singapore they often bring out hot nuts and wet wipes which are added to the bill - something to watch out for especially since you are usually carrying tissues for toilet paper back up.
