Kobo Glo eReader $129 @ JB Hi-Fi

60

Not as good as the recent Good Guys offering of $99, but for those who missed out and have been wanting one, this is a saving of $20 to $30. Buy the sleep cover with your savings and you're practically getting it for little or no extra on the regular price.

If you happened to buy gift cards for $100 and received the $30 bonus gift card, the real cost to you comes down to $100, so very close to the Good Guys price.

On officeworks site it's $149, so unless they drop it to meet JB's price there's a potential saving of $6.45 or thereabouts, bringing it down to $122.65ish.

NOTE While it's showing up on the front page as this price, once you go into product details they haven't changed the price yet, so until such time as they've fixed it you'd need to go instore or perhaps give someone a call

This isn't as good as the recent Good Guys offering of $99

    • +7

There's an echo in here …..

      • Why would you buy this over a Kindle?

        • +5

          epub

        • +6

Expandable memory, no 'special offers' ads

        • +1

Why would you buy this over a Kindle?

Cheaper than a backlit Kindle? And while Calibre is capable of dealing with file types, not everyone has the inclination to do conversions.

        • no 'special offers' ads

AFAIK we don't get those in Australia???

        • Conversely, you can't read Amazon mobi/azw books on Kobo. Whichever ereader you buy, you'll have to use Calibre to convert non-DRM books.

        • +2

On the Amazon side, you're pretty much committing to a single vendor for DRM books and reading platforms; on the ePub side there's a more open market for both books and readers. Amazon's quite attractive today, but we can't be sure they won't become tomorrow's prick of a company.

        • You don't get the ads in the AU version.

  • What are people opinions when comparing this to the sony prs-t2?

    • This has a built in light in the screen for night reading.

  • I remember tgg sell GLO for $99, but I bought sony psr-t2 for $50, at cosco.

    • Is that the standard price for the prs-t2 at Costco or a one-off special?

      • looks standard price.

        • thanks for the heads up. I managed to get the last one from Auburn. and yes it was $50

    • Is costco still selling prs-t2 for 50$?
      If, yes which store?
Please let us know, I am sure many ozbargainers want to know.

      • I bought it at auburn a 23rd December. Cant see the stock level.

  • +2

I got one of these from office works for $96 last month, to replace my kindle (old model with the keyboard).

    HEAPS nicer than the kindle.

    • Some books I have (same file) didnt show any pictures on the kindle, but with this they show up (only on some books they showed up on the kindle).
    • The menus are much nicer (animations, covers, much more intuitive)
    • The contrast is heaps better (blacks blacker, whites heaps more white)
    • And of course the back light.

I put my old kindle on gumtree for $60 and it sold within 1 day. should have sold it for more. Definitely worth the $36 it cost me to upgrade :-)

  • Sold my old kobo Glo on ebay yesterday for 119.50 + postage. Good deal

    • That's good considering recent prices. Well done!

      • Some people are just dumb. They could have purchased a brand new not 'old' one a few weeks ago for $99.

  • Did the price match with Officeworks based on the JB deal. It was a bit of a hassle, but they stuffed up and gave me 10% off which I didn't realise until I got home. Apparently they offer a price guarantee of 10% on school items. So $116.

I would have gone to JB but they were more of a drive and tough to park on a Saturday at my local.

Not as good as $98 but you can't go back in time.

    Thanks Geewhizz

    • JB didn't match tgg's $99 deal, but agree to sell at $120, because JB has plenty in stock.

  • Thanks for the deal. To price match at OW, did you get a written quote from JB Hifi? I just wonder how I can prove to OW that they have them for $129 when their website is still showing $159?
