  • Rep, since this replaces tapes/VCR's will it record analogue signals/sources?

    • people still own these things? yeesh

      • Own and use since my DVD rec. blew up. I'm not a complete Luddite, I have a digital PVR that I seldom use.

    • Yes this unit has a Line Input so you can input any AV device via composite AV and it will record and convert to digital.

      • Cheers, will consider.
May have to keep the VCR, I don't know if the TV has AV output.

Apparently this unit was first sold 5.5 years ago

  • tl:dr

  • Rep at the moment I have two DPS1 How does the DP P2 compare. I cannot see any reference to freeview so I take it doesn't have that

    • Freeview didn't exist when this unit was first produced.

    • +4

freeview refers to a bunch of standards that a manufacturer has to meet in order to use the logo. These are standards that broadcasters want the pvr to adhere to. A consumer does not want those standards adhered to. For example, any kind of ad-skipping is a no-no.

      Avoid those with the logo.

The only relevant logo / certification you should look for is ice-tv compatibility (which I think all this brands models' have).

      Hi,
The UI is the same so it will fit right in, the Remote works off a different frequency so it wont interfere with your S1's, you can also Network them all together and if you Record a program on One you can play it back over the network on any of your Beyonwiz.

    • Yep no 'freeview' logo means that you can ad-skip! (Not just fast forward) - You don't want to have the 'freeview' logo!

and these units support iceTV - this is a great match for this

  • How long IceTV electronic program guide (EPG) subscription is valid and what is the renewal cost

    • Hi,
It comes with a 3 month Free subscription and after that it is $99 per year but Ice regularly have specials on. You do get the 7day EPG for free from the broadcasters so it is not required but Ice adds features like remote record and iPhone / android apps etc.

  • cheers just bought . Easy

  • edit: oops wrong place for this comment..

I've had one for 5 years only paid $380 at JBHiFi, so I don't think this is a good deal! But it is one on the best PVRs around when you learn how to use its features. Sometimes it struggles playing MKV, Mp4 files from the usb port.It also has overheating problems with the power supply, so make sure it has lots of airspace around it in your cabinet. Some owners have gone to the trouble of installing extra fans to help lessen the problem. I never had the problem until 3 years of use and there is a guy in Perth who refurbishes them for $50. I never fitted the fan and still use it nearly every day.

  • This is a killer deal for both people who still watch Free To Air tv.

  • I bought mine years ago for $750. Such a good unit for what it does. Still 5 years later no better PVR all inone available.
The power supply and overheating is definitely an issue although there are people who can repair it.
which I had to do last summer.

    • Still 5 years later no better PVR all inone available.

      cough** Topfield 2400 **cough.

      • +1

I concur. 2400 Masterpiece for life.

Had the Beyonwiz (returned cant recall why), then the Panasonic BlurRay PVR (wasnt so versatile at the time as the Topfield). Settled on the Topfield. Although in saying that. It has an issue now (yrs on though so cant complain) where it occasionally switches itself off. Im told its probably a pwr supply issue too. When it restarts which it does by itself, its checking the hdd for errors. Can be slightly annoying but isnt so frequent that Id bother fixing it… YET.

At $299, this one seems a good deal too.

Edit: It might have been the lack of wifi options on the Beyonwiz. The Topfield has a dongle for WiFi, optional extra. But its crap, if you dont have the dongle, dont bother. Its not signal strength. You need to switch networking off regularly in the Topfield settings and restart it to be seen by other devices. And even then its sketchy. Ethernet, and a router/switch, its fine. Same as the Beyonwiz I assume.

The only other thing a Topfield has is dual tuners with the ability to record 4 programs at one (2+2, provided you arent accessing more than two networks). The other twin tuner systems cant do that.
