[NSW] Fishing Spots - Sydney & Kiama

Anyone know good fishing spots to catch breams, whitings, and flatheads? Looking to get that species on my 2-4kg fishing rod.

I had plans to fish at Rose Bay and Watsons Bay but read this report: http://www.foodauthority.nsw.gov.au/consumers/keeping-food-s…

Sydney habour contains toxins.

Does anyone know locations that they don't mind sharing and have toxic-free waters, as I would like to eat my catches :)

Also, does anyone know if the crabs on the rocks are eatable in kiama?

  • No such thing as a toxin free spot in the ocean. If you love eating seafood, toxins are pretty much a reality.

    • yes, but there is a certain amount.

      High and Low..

  • Don't know of spots myself, but I think it's in one of the weekend papers/sunday paper they have a fishing report that lists spots that are good for certain species. I'd be interested to tag along if anyone is going northern beaches direction.

  • Sydney harbour is a no go if you're thinking about eating the fish.
Georges river is also not great unless fishing more towards the sea: aka from botany bay or even better, directly near the inlet.

Hacking river (the whole waterway) is my favourite but it's extremely busy at this time especially onshore. In a boat it's much better, but yea…still lots of people around.

I'm unfamiliar anything south of Hacking River.

You'll get plenty of bream, whiting and flathead especially with a boat cuz you can target the sand flats, reef edges and holes for the respective fish.

Baitfish about now so if your lucky you'll nail yourself a jew, kingy, bonni, taylor or something…

    • Hacking river is quite close to Botany Bay. Is it a safe place?

I know for a fact that Botany water steam leads to Chipping Norton Lake which is heavily contaminated.

  • Anyone familiar with Wollongong area (south) places such as Werri Beach (there is even a fresh water stream behind the beach)

Or Pittwater (north) it looks like a nice place to fish. It's near palm beach. A little further up will get you to Woy Woy which I heard good things about. Hopefully these places are ediable as its far from the Sydney habour.

    Anyone been here before?
    - Werri beach
    - Pittwater
    - Palm Beach
    - Woy Woy

I'm looking to fish off wharfs and what not. Maybe along the side of the coats where there are rocks but nothing to extreme fighting waves and etc.

  • Try Balmoral or all the beaches and rocks from rosebay to watsons bay. The water there looks alot cleaner than say west of the bridge as they are close to the heads and open ocean.
google earth will help you choose a spot.
