  • the basic console bundle is way better value than the premium console bundle. You can just connect your own hard drive later. Also the prices on the eshop are so expensive so i cant really see people buying too many games anyways.

  • Is it "Pokémon X and Pokémon Y" or "Pokemon X or Pokemon Y"?

    • Both :)

      • Should be "Pokemon X or Pokemon Y" ;)

        • Yep you are correct I will change it :)

      • Sorry buddy only one of them actually.

    • The deal is likely these,
      http://sickr.files.wordpress.com/2013/11/pokemon_2ds_bundle.…
So would be a digital edition of pokemon x/y (means you cant trade it in).

      I MAY BE WRONG THOUGH.

      • The games in the catalogue show a physical game not a downloadable one :)

  • can't seem to find the details listed, does someone have a direct link? i'll post if i find it

  • The Premium always includes NintendoLand so they are only including one extra game

    • Actually there are premium packs without nintendo land.

      • -4

Japan was the exception, all other countries included NintendoLand with the black console…

        • +1

It wasn't written in the contents or displayed on the box for the mario bundled premium. I looked at it and bought the basic at xmas.

        • Yeah there were versions without any games but most have been sold out in Aus now but I think target still has a plain one online with no games.

        • +1

Yeah there were versions without any games

Someone is getting ripped off then, because it is part of the premium pack here…

          Official AU site :
          http://www.nintendo.com.au/wii-u-premium-pack

Premium Pack also includes: Nintendo Land software

Maybe the one you bought was not Australian stock ????

        • I haven't bought one yet. No way would I buy one without any games

        • +1

I purchased the JB Wii U Monster Hunter deal (Monster Hunter + Premium) a couple of months ago for $399 and that didn't come with Nintendo Land either.

        • +3

You can get some black bundles, like the current super mario one, or monster hunter, without Nintendo Land.

      • +1

Monster Hunter 3 pack had no Nintendo land.

  • These prices aren't current. OP, is there a date when it starts?

Oh and typo on line two. It should be WiiU not Wii ;)

    • +1

lol does know one look at the dates, under where tagging is there will be a set date :)

      • Apologies, I didn't look there. Usually just expect it in the main text :3

        Cheers :)

        • Totally weird having the same price as one with a game though lol. Who would buy that.

        • If they took out Skylanders and did the basic for $200 I'd buy it, but $249 isn't quite low enough for me yet ;)

        • You will be waiting a while.

        • Not necessarily. I got a basic Wii U from Dick for $175, and if the console refuses to sell it's only a matter of time before other retailers do similar clearances. People are saying K Mart is next to go?

Still, if you want one I'd get it now. This is a great price!

        • Memories of how I got my Sega Saturn.

        • But it could be a long wait like after the dick smith deal, now only are we getting a good price, I don't think most would want to wait 6 months for another good deal.

  • Catalogue should be online tonight everyone.

  • bought the0 Wii U basic console with Nintendoland and skylanders swap force for $299 @target 2 weeks ago. Does Target have the price guaranty?

    • Maybe you could return it for store credit?

  • +1

Wii u basic is excellent value (If you just ignore the previous DSE deal)

  • Does JB hifi match this stuff? (Just ive got some gift cards).

  • -2

Nintendo going down hill fast, these might be even cheaper in a month or two

    • +1

Mariokart 8 and super smash bros come out soon which Nintendo are hoping to move consoles so I don't expect a price drop until after those 2 are out.

      • -1

Nintendo expected to sell 9 million consoles last year, it actually managed 2.8 million. It's beyond to point of Nintendo's predictions being worth… anything.

      • +1

        Don't forget DANKAY KAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAANG!!!

  • +1

Still doesn't beat my bargain I somehow got when the $229 Target debacle happened. EB not only price matched but they also swapped games over for Zelda, NintendoLand and Monster Hunter with a Special Edition LuigiU Wiimote for good measure :) New manager was having a bad day I reckon.

    • I can make stuff up too

      • Good for you. I posted receipt previously though Richard.

        • Yeah I remember someone saying they got some good deals from a stuff up. Lucky you :) Too bad I missed out on those 2 big deals :(

        • Yeah that was me. Had a username change since.

        • +1

Yeah about that, how and why did you change your name, b******o?

        • Asked amin to fix it up as I had a stalker, seems to have done the job.

  • Hold off on buying a wii u, they will soon be a lot cheaper…

    • Like I said above. Nintendo's problem are their games. They have no momentum but they expect that to pick up when Mariokart 8 and Supersmash bros come out so it's logical to see if they have any impact on console sales before Nintendo did a price cut.

      • +1

        Nintendo's problem are their games.

We've got about a dozen games, there are no problems with them… My kids won't go near another console after playing Wii U

        • Yes that's for kids, I'm talking hardcore Nintendo fans who are hanging out for the big ones- Mariokart 8, Donkey kong tropical freeze and Supersmash. Mariokart Wii sold over 30m units and super smash sold over 12m so they will move consoles.

        • +1

I'm talking hardcore Nintendo fans who are hanging out for the big ones

You haven't lived until you've played Tank! Tank! Tank!

        • I am a bit bored of our WiiU following the initial interest. I've bought several good games for it but the PS4 arrived not long afterwards and so I stopped using it. Had an hour on LuigiU earlier though and am a bit disappointed with it. Way too difficult for the kids so I might have to trade for Mario 3D World.

        • Way too difficult for the kids

My boys 4 & 6 are loving Rayman and Swap Force… They're much better at it than me…

        • Yeah I was just saying the same thing to the wife, the kids prefer those two games.

      • If anything I think they will drop to this price full time. I don't see them going much cheaper than $250.

        • +1

I paid $439 for the premium, NintendoLand, Dance and free accessory kit, plus JB sold me official controller and nun-chuck combo for $60 a set (bought 2).

That was about a year ago… No regrets… and there are more great games just around the corner…

        • Yep I soooo can't wait for Mariokart being in HD for the first time, it looks amazing

        • -1

I played a HD racing game in 2005.

        • Yep and that just shows how far behind Nintendo are.
But if your like me and never played or owned a PS or xbox it's going to be a big difference to the gameplay compared to the Wii version of Mariokart

        • Sonic Racing Transformed looks amazing in HD on pc.

  • This is a good read About Wii U and Nintendo
    http://www.polygon.com/2014/1/17/5319016/nintendo-wii-u-symp…

    • Good read yes :)

Had to lmao at that Pachter jerk saying Nintendo should make their top games on PS4 and Xbox One… so wrong.

The Wii U is a failure and I don't see it recovering but for fans of the first party games, if they can get the console cheap, it's a small price to pay for even a small bunch of A quality games.

What Nintendo need to do is launch a proper next gen console (don't give devs a choice to keep their games in SD like they've done with the Wii U), no gimmicky controllers and actually launch with a Zelda and Mario game.

      • Yeah I don't know who that idiot is but No way should Nintendo make games for PS4 or XBOX

      • +1

My Wii u plays games in hd. If anyone's plays games in sd maybe get a refund

        • Lots aren't 1080p.

        • +1

Same can be said for the Xbone.

        • +1

          and the PS4

        • PS4 still kills the xbone in that department so far. Ghosts 1080p PS4, 720p xbone. BF4 900p PS4, 720p xbone. Black Flag 1080p PS4, 900p xbone.

        • Bring on 3D Games.

        • Maybe Big N should way pre-maturely start 9th gen. Thinking maybe VR (occulus rift like) paired w/ powerglove tech?

        • +1

I don't know why they always bring out underperforming consoles Bar the 3DS. Nintendo thinks no hardcore gamers play Nintendo consoles but that's so not true. The need to be a leader for a change like how Samsung took over Apple in Smartphone world with new technologies and pushing the limits

        • -1

By new technologies and pushing the limits, you mean taking Google's OS and putting a tacky fluro skin over it with a bunch of gimiky bloat that slow down the device.

Samsung sure have become the next Apple, where sheep blindly support them despite there being much better options.

        • Nintendo needs fresh upper management for sure.

        • How quick people with iPhones and iPads and Macs and iPods and Airport Expresses and Apple TVs (no it's not an actual TV, generic Apple fan customer) are to hate on Samsung now they've got the market dominance they worked so hard for.

        • Indeed. It's like the majority of people tripped over in store and bought Samsung's by accident. The reason iPhone gained its popularity back in the day was because it was great quality and innovative. Now it has been long surpassed and is old hat so the die hards defend it to the death and the iSheep still buy it until they realize that their friend's phone actually does everything better.

        • -3

@Putnum, My phone is a Nexus, my 7" tablet is a Nook running Jellybean and my large tablet is an iPad 3. I'm open to all brands. I hate on Samsung because they are overpriced plastic crap the ruins the Android name. My $299 Nexus 4 with a custom ROM and kernel nearly matches the REAL WORLD performance of a stock Galaxy S4, despite the S4 being far superior on specs. Really highlights how terrible Samsung is at delivering quality products.

Samsung was just clever with their marketing timing. They saw Apple was floundering and they spent billions marketing themselves as their replacement. I guess you gobbled that up, meanwhile the likes of LG and Sony are producing physically better phones and UI more in line with Matias Duarte vision.

        • +1

Excuse me? In my experience the Nexus 4 is a poorly made PoS. I just got rid of mine and went back to Samsung devices as I've never had a problem with them. The Nexus range is (in my experience) all spec and no build quality. My Nexus One constantly had rebooting issues and over heated often. My Nexus 7 cannot have it's storage filled, you try to go any closer than 3GB to capacity (16GB model) and it slows down almost to a standstill. This can only be fixed by a clean wipe, it's a known issue with one of the chips (I forget now, google it for clarity) and the Nexus 4 is the biggest joke of them all. Glass back? Check (dropped a tea spoon on it from around a foot above and it shattered. Overheating issue? Check (the top of the phone heats up so bad it actually caused me pain several times when it was in my jeans pocket. Random reboots? Check (the phone was completely stock yet rebooted several times a day, total deal breaker for me as I listen to many podcasts or audiobooks whilst working)

I only got the Nexus 4 as my wife had broken her much loved Note(1). She didn't wanted to splurge at the time for the Note 2 as she wanted to wait on either a price drop or the Note 3 so we decided the Nexus 4 was good bang for buck, after a couple of days she asked if I would swap her as she preferred my S34G and I did, big mistake. Anyway I'm
back on to a Note 3 now after 4 months of putting up with the N4, absolutely love it. No reboots, lightening fast, beautiful screen and does everything it is supposed to. What's not to like?

        • +1

Never had any issues you have described. The Nexus 7 issue with space was probably related to TRIM, which has been fixed.

I'd rather a glass back than plastic or heaven forbid the absolute cringe worthy fake leather on the Note 3. Seriously only Samsunng could think of something incredibly tacky. Honestly the Huawei Mate 2 looks more classy than the Note 3. Shame because the internals in the Note 3 are a beast.

The best option I reckon is the metal back found on the HTC One and iPhone 5 but.

        • Metal interferes with radio frequencies. I much prefer plastic, plus the cold feeling you get when picking a metal phone on a cold day is not to my tastes.

Nobody seems to complain that games controllers are plastic (for example), and I'd hate for them to start using metals on exterior surfaces. Yet they have to be durable (and are). I'm not quite sure why plastic phones in general are considered cheap crap. Plastic is one of the most practical and durable materials to use for the exterior of a phone.

All the companies making the OS and/or the phone themselves are NSA associates, and as such should be named & shamed. I think Apple, Google & Samsung all have overpriced offerings and all use (or have used) the public as guinea pigs with their overhyped products at some point. Generally-speaking the best value is to be had outside the overhyped phones, such as cheap China phones.

        • Yeah the first thing I done was added a leather wallet case which solved the leather look plastic case you mentioned so as you said yourself, it's beast. But for me the glass back on the N4 was a mistake. They already had issues with it enough to cause a revision, they added small nubs in corners to help prevent it sliding when vibrating on tables and other surfaces (which did little to help) but I think the glass also added to the heat issues.

        • "Nobody seems to complain that games controllers are plastic"
Well that would be because game controllers don't cost $300-$999. People expect higher quality materials on more expensive products.

The Nexus 4 nubs were to raise the device so the back speaker would be louder. Unfortunately your leather case won't get rid of the horrid TouchWiz, unless your rocking a custom ROM, in which case kudos.

        • People expect higher quality materials on more expensive products.

Most TVs for example are still all-plastic outside, despite the high price. Some might use brushed metal or metallic-looking paint on parts to satisfy perceptions of premium materials. All cosmetic, in my opinion.

If some people do want 'quality' materials as you put it, that's a marketing problem, not really a quality materials problem. Yes, some of the public wants to differentiate their device from the mainstream devices (being all-plastic), that's all that is. What's worse to me is when they do the silver paint thing to differentiate.

Metal-back phones are terrible for antennas. There has to be a gap for antennas anyway, and most metal-shelled phones fare worse as communications devices than regular phones with a plastic shell. They have to be carefully designed with enough clearance for the antennas (gps/bluetooth/wifi/phone) to do their thing, and the engineering task is generally less flexible and more difficult, all things being equal.

When you consider that today's devices (given their size and glass use) are actually less durable than the phones of old, that's saying something about what is premium and what isn't (to me). The rest is just perceptions and marketing fluff (again, my opinion only). This is without going into the fact that many 'premium'-marketed phones omit MicroSD and removable batteries (which are two things I expect on all modern phones).

If games controllers (again, for example) came in metal shells (even at the same price), I'd be asking for the plastic one instead. I think metal is a worse choice, but of course opinions vary. To me there's nothing premium about a worse choice of materials, but of course there is the market that still wants to differentiate itself from the crowd and likes the look and feel of metal (which is fair enough).

        • To be honest I'm a fan of TW. Have been since the SGS2. It's fast, very fast infact. It is intuitive (Google have integrated some TW features into their stock OS) and the SPen features are spot on. It's also not far behind on updates, 4.2.2 update is rolling out already and it is said to be even faster (which is hard to imagine as everything already works instantaneously) It's cool to bag on the bloatware but truth be told, you don't need to use it. I just install the apps I want, set them to default and carry on regardless.

        • -1

"4.2.2 update is rolling out already"
Already? 4.2.2 is 11 months old. No achievement there.

"Most TVs for example are still all-plastic outside, despite the high price"
People don't hold TVs in their hands. The plastic feel isn't an issue.

        • My bad. 4.4.2, KitKat. Not bad at all considering it's not a 'Pure Google' device as my Nexus loving friend often tells me.

As for plastic, isn't the new Nexus back to being rubber/plastic mold?

        • If you love metal so much you can finally buy a Samsung galaxy s5 which will be metal, I know you want to

        • Thats just how apple people are.

        • People don't hold TVs in their hands. The plastic feel isn't an issue.

          they do remotes.
And they don't break when dropped…

  • There will be a price matching frenzy when this starts on Thu. Anything to save a few bucks…

    • Looks like JB Hi-Fi have started the price matching, they're also selling the bundle for $249 now as well - http://www.jbhifionline.com.au/game/wii-u/wii-u-8gb-skylande…

      • The Wii-U will only get cheaper when SSB & MK8 comes out. Maybe around $199 for basic or $300 for pro console only packs. They rely (almost) purely on 1st party titles to shift consoles.

        • Maybe in America but not here, Nintendo already makes basically no money on it's consoles so they won't want to go much further, that being said Australia is still missing out on the $50 price drop Americans got last year.

        • Thats why I think they may reduce the cost of the console & sell those at a loss all while placing their bets on those games to make up for the loss & break even this gen.

        • You know what amazes me is the fact Wii games are still like $89!!! Wtf!

  • $249 on Wii U basic seems reasonable. $399 for premium with JD4/Nintendoland is a bit rich- would pony up $50 more to get Mario Bros pack.

    • I wouldn't be surprised if Target let you get the Mario bros pack for the same price if you asked.

      • +1

        They don't stock it.

        • Asked them today and they do

  • The rumour mill was saying that KMART might be clearing out their consoles soon… not sure on the validity of it… read it on some forums. Alot of KMARTS don't seem to have Wii U in stock these days.

Might be a repeat of DickSmith when they sold the Wii U for $214…

    • I'd say a lot of stores don't stock many Wii U's these days.

Tempting to get the Skylanders pack as it seems to be popular, and use the $10 AMEX cashback as well so it'll be $239.

  • great deal
