  • Bought a fridge two weeks ago that would have qualified for $100 cashback. :(

    • Return and Re-purchase (on paper at least) ;)

  • Big list …they've just put the model numbers there.
Didn't even bother putting what the appliance is … little bit more effort Samsung.
After a vacuum cleaner BTW (robotic will do :P)

  • Grr, found a Samsung fridge we liked in September and realized that it used to have $600 cashback (ended August).. by the look of it they have cashback on fridges roughly twice a year, so we just decided to wait it out. It is back now but only $300 cashback. Oh well, at least we can buy it now I suppose, waiting another six months would be annoying.

Would be good if people try and point out specific bargains in this post as there should still be some good items after cashback, as long as you play hardball with the retailers (as they will now be trying to sell it for more than they did earlier due being able to advertise lower now due to cashback). The fridge we've been looking at was advertised as $3000 (yikes) everywhere we looked earlier, and checking harvey norman now for example, it is listed as $2899 (after $300 cashback). Retailers suck.

EDIT: best I could haggle earlier was $2700, so I guess I'll go hunting again and see what I can get it down to. Most places sucked though. I got a whopping $50 discount from the good guys IF I took the one that had been returned by customer, wtf.

    • lmao @ good guys

Had a similar experience with them last year for a $1200 fridge. They offered a $50 discount + standard fee for delivery; HN next door was willing to sell same fridge with free delivery plus $200 discount. Both are shipped from manufacturer's warehouse. Even more funny was the GG salesman claim $50 discount is best they could do and can't price match HN as it'd be below cost. Hmmm i say….

      • tell them you will buy from HN next door, if they don't want your business, and walk off & do buy from next door instead!
(remember showing/let his manager hear that, that will teach them the lesson for not hearing from customers)

  • Try this site. Usually better than other retailers. I'm guessing this is the model you're after?

We're planning to buy the 639L version. I remember the cashback back in August too.

    • Yeah, they have the cheapest listed price at the moment at $2900, but hopefully I can get it a bit cheaper elsewhere. Last time I checked, it was listed as 2900-3000 literally at every single store. Seems to be 3200 at most places now after checking online. Anyway, will go around the shops and ask for best price and who knows. Best I got last time was $2700 + delivery, but decided to wait for cashback.

  • bought a few Samsung 2 door fridges & front load washers (for myself & relatives)
the "Drum Spider" for the washer had corrosion & died in about 4 years time
(seem like a very common issue from google result)
    for $800+ washer that's a expensive $200 per year?

as looking for a new washer recently,
we heard that our relative front load washer's drum is playing up too..
will not buy another Samsung washer! :-(
(for reference, the place we bought from said LG washer are bad too)

the $1000+ 2 doors fridge however still works well.. :-)

  • +3

If you DO buy one of these and the cash-back offer is a factor, PLEASE make sure you read the small print. I didn't.

We bought a washing machine last year, when they had a $150 cash-back offer. The offer ran for quite a while, from (I think) the start of July to the end of September. Or maybe August.

We live in a semi-rural area. Towards the start of the offer we bought the washing machine on a weekend visit to town. It took about 4 days to get it delivered, maybe the Thursday or Friday. Weekend went by. Another few days later, the guy who was removing the old machine and installing the new one came and did his thing. Maybe the Wed or Thu after that. Another weekend went by.

Sat down to claim the cash-back on the Monday or Tuesday, a little over 2 weeks after buying the machine. Expecting to have no problems as the cash-back program had weeks to run before it finished. And found I was refused the money. Because in the small print: "You must complete your cash-back claim within 10 days of purchase".

I'm sure they'll have the same 'catch' this time round, so please don't make the same mistake as me, get the claim in ASAP.

  • Which are the participating retail stores?

    • Basically all retail stores and online retailers (except ebay). I found this on appliancesonline.com.au and they are definitely participating. They also pricematch other stores/websites and offer free delivery.

  • I got a Samsung SR320MLS 3.5star for $643.50 at Masters, price beating appliancesonline.com.au. Then a $50 cash back brings it under $600. Not bad considering it is ~$800 everywhere else.
