  • Is it really slim though? From what I've heard it's just a budget model without a price drop.

    • +1

There's a pic in the linked article to see how slim it is.

      More info:

      • 1GB storage on-board (storage is disabled if a VITA memory card is inserted; apparently you are prompted to save any data to the new card you inserted)
      • slimmer, lighter
      • more battery life (an hour or more extra life)
      • IPS LCD instead of OLED (most consider this a downgrade, but it can be down to your tastes). Sony are likely saving money with this move.
      • redesigned START and SELECT buttons (more surface area; easier to press)
      • redesigned ergonomics (claimed better)
      • smaller back touch pad (some say the original's touch pad was too large)
      • Micro USB connector (like many phones), instead of using a Sony connector
      • more colour choices

Some people prefer the OLED display and the seamless front face of the older model versus the newer model with IPS LCD (and seams around the LCD). There are lots of comparisons online already so I won't go into that.

    • Much Slimmer and more importantly, the ergonomics are much better due to deeper rear grips.

  • I used it in Japan, it is slimmer and lighter yes, probably the same as the PSP slim was to the original PSP if that helps. The budget part is of course the OLED being replaced by the LCD. The LCD doesn't look as nice as the OLED but if I'm honest, I never noticed until I pulled out my Vita and compared them side by side.
