    hahahahaha - need a coffee

  • Op, it's actually 10 - 20% off all gaming products.

  • Nice, been waiting for the XBone to go on sale somewhere.

Also got COD and another controller at 20% off each

  • +1
    • It says delivery this thursday!

      • wish i could trust dse to actually be accurate in their advertisements… i wont be holding my breath for my ps4 ..hehe

      • PS4 is a dud from a dud company

        You don't even have a ps4 do you…

  • Ah, I would buy if I didn't have a huge backlog. Will wait on this.

    • -1

Backlog? It says "In Stock" on the site.

      • +2

umm he has a backlog not DSE..loll(im assuming he means games on the older systems..)

  • +3

If anyone wants A PS4 and doesnt want to wait a month, Sony online store has them in stock with free shipping, just no discount :(

Any of those who have done their research on game title differences between the PS4/XBONE will find that more games run natively at 1080p and 60fps on PS4 and are 720p upscaled/stretched to 1080p on the Xbone. Really bizarre that it was made this way, so hopefully the next COD games run at 1080p natively on the XBONE.

    • -8

it's not bizarre. The ps4 has a more powerful processor then the xbox720(p). it the same reason why the ps3 games are not 1080P because processor not powerful enough.

      • Check the AMD processors in both consoles…they are very similar in tech specs, so yes it's a bit strange that the console CAN play native 1080p video @ 60fps but developers - who wanted a smooth running version of their games on the XBONE - decided to go 720p and have it upscaled. It's like this with most of not all launch titles (haven't looked into all games) but will change later in the year…

        • You are right, the processors are believed to be roughly equivalent, however the graphics horsepower in the PS4 factors out to be about 50% higher. It is likely that a large portion of the problems are due to reported driver issues and the increased complexity of the Xbox One's architecture. Hopefully this will be resolved for the most part in the long term, so the games look comparable to the PS4 versions(with fewer concessions in resolution/framerate/fidelity etc).

If that happens, everyone wins. Xbox gamers will get better looking games, and PS4 versions wont be gimped by developers who spend more time optimising the Xbox version due to its complexity/ weaker hardware.

  • Is that the cheapest Play & Charge has been? $23.98

    Anyone recommend anything else?

ps. I value convenience so don't say eneloops

  • +1

Why is xbone more expensive than ps4 ?

    • +2

The Kinect is probably responsible for the price bump. It's also possible that Microsoft paid a higher cost for production to ensure that there will be enough consoles made in time for launch, as opposed to Sony who ran out of stock fairly quickly.

    • Because Microsoft priced it higher?

People need to get over this idea that a product should only be priced at the sum of the cost of all of its parts. If Microsoft want to charge $800 for the XB1, why can't they? If that's too much for you, don't buy it. They chose to price it at $550, so they would make a bit of profit from every console sold from day 1, and because that's what they determined the market will pay. Sony chose a lower price point, probably to win market share because they desparately need the PS4 to be successful after the huge loss that was the PS3, and Sony as a whole being in financial strife.

Companies can price their product however they want.

      • -1

that's an Apple marketing tactic not Microsoft

        • +1

It's a marketing tactic, not exclusive to anyone.

Do you think a Lamborghini costs $500k to make? No? So why are they "allowed" to sell it for $500k? Because that's what they, the company who make it, price it at. There is no law saying something can only be sold for its manufacturing and materials cost. If you make something it can be sold for as little or as much as you want to sell it for. There's this little thing called "profit" that companies like to make. If they don't they tend to go out of business. You don't make profit by selling things for what they cost to make.

The whole train of thought that the XB1 should be cheaper based on the PS4 having a better GPU/RAM is ridiculous. Don't buy it if you don't like the price, but don't whinge because you don't think they should be allowed to sell it for that price.

    • -3

The Xbox1 is more powerful with Microsoft's Azure dedicated servers backing it. Sony can only afford one server located in a backyard garden shed somewhere. Do you really want your gaming experience dependant on a backyard garden shed?

      • -5

servers have nothing to do with processing power….. do you know what a server is vs the consoles processor?

        servers just host online lobbies

        • -1

Do you know what a backyard shed is vs Global Dedicated Network?

        • You obviously don't…

      • +2

With Australia's remote location and sub-standard Internet speeds (unless you are lucky enough to have the NBN), the lag in inter-continental network speeds would perfectly complement the slower processor. Maybe you might like playing Chessmaster on your Xbox1, where you can afford to wait two seconds for an AI decision from the powers of a Watson imposter.

Besides, a birdy told me the Xbox1 is built in a backyard sewerage pipe.

    • +1

Just like holdens are the best cars because they go faster?

    • +3

It's not at all like your example. It's more like:

      Laptop 1: i7 with a 800mhz GPU with windows 7 (PS4)
      Laptop 2: i7 with a 700mhz GPU and a touchscreen with windows 8(XB1)

If you want the more feature laden OS (XB1's OS) or the touchscreen functionality (Kinect) then you get Laptop 2. if you dont care for them, get Laptop 1.

Some people prefer 1, others 2.

      • -1

That's also not entirely genuine either. The differential on GPU's is signficantly more than simply 800 vs 700 mhz (think 50%), and that's ignoring GDDR5 ram.

Also, the touchscreen analogy would be like having to use the metro interface of Windows 8 with early generation resistive touch, i.e. a whole lot of griding your stylus into the screen with inconsistent results. Which is completely fine, but know what you are getting into (novelty over functionality).

        • It's not 50%, and it doesn't really matter. The end result is that some multiplatform games will run lower resolution and/or framerate, but not significantly so. To most people on their TV in the lounge room, the same game on the PS4 and XB1 will look the same.

It's not ignoring GDDR5 either, it's just not something that really matters. RAM speed isn't the be all and end all. The only reason it's even mentioned is because the Sony faithful want it to be important.

Having owned an XB1 since day 1, Kinect is much more than a novelty. I pretty much never even touch my controller until I'm in a game, it's fantastic. The voice recognition works 95% of the time, kinect sign in works 100% of the time, and navigating the OS is faster using Kinect.

Seems to me like you just don't like the Xbox One, and probably haven't ever used one.

        • My point was not that either the greater GPU power (which, again is in the region of 50% - similar frequency, 50% more shader cores = 50% more output - e.g. http://www.extremetech.com/gaming/156273-xbox-720-vs-ps4-vs-…) or RAM are the "be all and end all" but your analogy should be accurate become some people will believe the figures.

The PS4 is significantly more powerful - but as long as a consumer knows and accepts that when buying the system - awesome! I hope they have a fantastic time with their new baby.

Same thing applies to Kinect. My personal experiences (yes, the fam owns and Xbox One) and those of friends and the wider internet, indicate the Kinect is not flawless (error rate more like 20%), relies on a specific dictionary of phrases, and (most importantly) has resulted in an OS that is a nightmare to navigate for those who would prefer not to use Kinect. But for those who enjoy using the Kinect (don't mind the quirks) and have an optimal environment to operate it - great!

Once again, everyone is entitled to their opinion - just make sure it is educated and then you wont be horribly disappointed by the reality.

          Oh, and Forza is awesome.

        • Again, I use kinect for EVERYTHING menu related on my XB1 which I use often and the voice recognition error rate is no more than 5%.

Of course it relies on a specific dictionary, that's what voice recognition is. You say a command, it does the command. If you don't say the command how does it know what you want it to do? People like to complain about that, but really you have to remember a small handful of things - "Xbox go to ….", "Xbox Snap …", "Xbox Unsnap", "Xbox Record That". That's really about it. everything else has on screen text prompts and you just say those words. The wider internet complains when saying "xbox call of duty" doesn't open call of duty, and say that's an error, and then repeat it 5 times and it still doesn't work. They then say the correct "xbox GO TO call of duty" and it works, so they say it had a 1/7 success rate. Really it had a 100% success rate, it was user error the other 6 times.

Oh and the GPU is actually more in the region of 30-40%, not 50%.

        • Okay, personally I read that as massive apologist with rose coloured glasses - who blames the user over the platform.

Maybe people have the right to either have a more flexible voice command system (hell, something as mind-blowing as being able to say AC4 over slowly annunciating Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag) or an OS that allows them the alternative of an enjoyable "traditional" navigation experience.

Also, even if I agreed that it was 30-40% differential (which I don't, you can use the source I linked above or the fact that the framerate differential on Tomb Raider: Definitive is >50% as reference) - that would be a whole lot more than 800 vs 700 mhz. This just goes back to the original point - you were being as misleading with your analogy as the other dude was, by trivialising the difference in raw power.

        • You blame the user if the user is doing it wrong lol.

Who do you blame if a user is pressing B on the controller instead of A to select an option, the User or the Console? That's what's happening - people "pressing" the wrong button to perform an action. Kinect isn't an AI, and it doesn't read minds - it accepts defined inputs and performs the corresponding actions.

It's not being an apologist, it's being realistic. Bad data in = bad (or no) data out.

Wasn't misleading at all. Was breaking it down into simple numbers that effectively tell the tale.

          • Same CPU.
          • PS4 has better GPU
          • XB1 has more robust OS, PS4 more simple but less hassle.
          • XB1 has "novelty" extras.

Also, while Tomb Raider has a big framerate difference, it's not a like for like comparison since they're both made by different developers. The XB1 version is also capped at 30fps and spends 99.9% of its time at 30fps, meaning if unlocked it would most likely be reaching ~40fps or more the majority of the time. The PS4 sits around 50fps 90% of the time, so the difference in framerate could be as little as 10fps (and again, made by different developers so still not a good comparison).

        • "Laptop 1: i7 with a 800mhz GPU with windows 7 (PS4)
          Laptop 2: i7 with a 700mhz GPU and a touchscreen with windows 8(XB1)"

You clearly refer to GPU power specifically (along with the other features you specify for XB1). I was saying that's fine but 800/700 is not a fair representation of the actual GPU differential.

In terms of Tomb Raider, you are right that it is mostly speculative what the XB1 could achieve as it is locked at 30, but the fact they also had to downscale the resolution during cutscenes and it dips below 30 under load does paint a bit of a concerning picture.

Oh and Kinect was consistently marketed as a much more flexible and capable platform than it actually is. So I think it is fair some users are disappointed at its rigid vocabulary and error rates. It's possible you are correct and all the complaints come from users "doing it wrong". I have heard, seen, read a lot to the contrary.

        • You are aware that the actual GPU of the XB1 is clocked higher than that of the PS4 though, aren't you?

Excuse me if I find it a bit funny that you're carrying on about me not giving the PS4 enough of an advantage when making a quick comparison between the two for the "lowest common denominator" customer. I clearly pointed out the PS4 has the better GPU.

As for Tomb Raider, again, it barely dips below 30 - like I said, its average was 29.84 over the entire DF analysis. That means it probably had a small handful of drops to ~25fps throughout the entire thing. To say that it dips below 30 under load is being very misleading. It can very very very very very rarely, under the most extreme load that the game can produce, drop 4-5 frames for a single second and then its back to 30fps.

Kinect wasn't at all marketed as "flexible", I don't know where you're getting that from. It most certainly is more capable - it does everything they said it can. Auto-login, voice control, switch controllers based on who's holding it, detect you much better than the original kinect, etc. I've read a lot to the contrary too, but most of those people used it "at a friends" or don't seem to be able to produce a gamertag when you ask them for one, interestingly enough. If you say the right command, it works nearly every time.

        • Alright, by pure tenacity you have worn me down to focusing on the key issue, Tomb Raider and Kinect be damned. I disagree, but we are going to continue running circles.

In terms of frquency 853 vs 800 is rather insignificant when you count the shader cores. Again, we are talking about the overall increased processing power of 30-50% (I contest latter based upon various technical articles/ the the disparity in resolution/framerate in several multiplatform games - but whatever).

It is precisely because you are trivialising the differential of power to the lowest common denominator that it is important. These are consumers who will take your word at face value (especially if they are already leaning in one direction). Give them the over-simplified analogy - but make it accurate. I would be saying the same thing if someone (inadvertently or otherwise) made innaccuate comparisons that painted the PS4 in an overly positive (or less compromised) light.

  • Xbox 1 cost more because of the Kinect. I wouldnt worry about a PS4 yet as they have no good AAA Exclusives. While X1 has a few including the up and coming Titanfall. X1 have more variety which is why i Purchased a X1. PS4 should of been 499 but they got greedy and added an extra 50 bucks. Microsoft added $100 and Sony added $150 to the US Price. People can talk about how PS4 is more powerful all they want but they have no games worth buying a new console for.

      Xbox Nuthugger alert.

The upcoming Infamous Second Sons ring any bells?

      • +3

hasnt been reviewed yet but should be the best AAA Exclusive on the PS4 and it does look good. Not enough to buy a new console for. Also it runs @ 30fps So the PS4 isnt as powerful as you think.

        • At least then there will be ONE AAA exclusive on PS4. So far I've played NFS, COD and Killzone on PS4. NFS by far the best out of the three.

I've played BF4, AC4, and Tomb Raider Definitive on other platforms.

        • -3

how many fps can xbox 1 run infamous? oh it can't.

          30fps > can't run game just like COD 1080 > 720 or Battlefield 4 1080 > 900.

        • of course xbox one couldnt run Infamous its an PS4 exclusive. you are wrong about battlefield 4 900p on PS4. Also PS4 version of COD is 720p unless you download the patch to make it 1080p.

        • Also anyone that doesnt play bf4 on pc doesnt count.

  • I'd choose Xbox one since it's got Apps and you can use it as browser if you are not playing games, plus there will be some exiting future apps that make use of the Kinect.
And the Kinect is way better than the PS4's camera.

  • Anyone else having issues with ordering the xbox one controller at 20% off? Home delivery is greyed out as an option for me and click and collect keeps saying 'No click and collect items are currently available' .

  • +3

Geez, this deal is like a gamespot comment section. Good price though!

  • +2

When you argue over consoles and they have you picking a side.. they've won. Materialism at it's finest.

    • stick and a bicycle wheel is what every kid should be playing with i say!… (good thing im not a kid … sort of) lol

    • +1

I know right? What's with these idiots and having to defend some device they own?

Who gives a shit, it's not your son. If you bought it and you don't like it, have the balls to admit it.

  • Hey guys, I am a first time console buyer and mostly will play first shoot game. Should I go for PS4 or Xone?

    • if you don't have a gaming pc get a xbox one to play titanfall

    • Indeed if shooting games are your thing then xbox one is your best bet

    • I would probably check out the Xbox 360 / PS3 at this stage; massive gaming library and cheap. Xbox One and PS4 still have quite a small catalogue.
