  • Does the coupon code COMBINED still work for free shipping?

    • Just tried it. Din't work for me.

Just a note that this is the old version. It doesn't have any stabilisation (VC) and the focus isn't as fast or accurate as Canon/Tamron/Sigmas latest focusing systems.

Matt Granger did a video review series of the Canon/Nikon/Sigma and old Tamron 70-200mms. I believe he also did a follow up on the new VC version, but don't quote me on that.

    Still, good deal for $600.

Thanks, just ordered. This is very cheap for this lens, even if it is run out stock on an old model it is still a great lens for the money. Hong Kong sellers on ebay are asking >$700 for the same model.

This is the gen 1 model, with shoddy autofocus and no VC. For $600, you are better off picking up a used Canon f2.8 non-IS v1.

The latest Tamron VC model, on the other hand, is light years better - rivalling (and in many areas, bettering) Canon's top line v2 IS L model for half the price.

  • Nikon is also on the same price point and has a 'bonus Vanguard tripod' (?). It does say 'very limited stock'. As moda and others have mentioned it is an older version.

Now if someone can help me find a good deal on the D7000 + Tokina 11-16 + Sigma 70-200 that'd be nice :) :P

    • How is $2773 for Aus stock ;)

      • I know you said Aus stock but I'm hoping D7000 (750ish), Tokina (550ish), Sigma (1000ish) =~ 2300ish :)

Cheapest for local I could find was D7000 (850ish), Sigma (1100ish), Tokina (700ish).

  • Good for sports, but if just a general everyday lens is what you are after then the canon 70-200 f4 L may be better :)

  • hmmm tempted,

is it good for Street photography?

or is the lack of OS a deal breaker?

Lenses like these (telephoto lenses), are best suited for wildlife and sports photography. Without VC it is better on a tripod.

Street photography I would go with 35/50 mm :)

Don't forget the canon 70-200mm f2.8L non IS is a very good and popular lens, just because a lens doesn't have IS (or VR) it becomes useless. Depends if you're going to need it or not and what you are shooting
For street photography, 70-200mm is extremely useful focal length as you can stand far away and get the candid shots without in people face.
When you shoot low light at night, IS (VR) becomes desirable but you still can get away with pumping up high ISO (if your camera can handle it)

  • true, I was / am mainly concerned about the lack of OS, I guess that's why Teds are including a "free" tripod.

I've used a 20-700 VR 2.8 and the OS was amazing, hand held no prob.

Wow, that's one helluva zoom! :D

stuff it, I'm pulling the trigger!

paying $2,000 more for OS and Nikon brand, hmmmm.

Teds just rang me and cancelled my order as it is now out of stock. Apparently they cannot get more stock as the lens is now discontinued.

  • same here,

sad thing is all orders placed online automatically will grab money from your credit card THEN they look for the stock, they rang back and say "no stock, would you like a refund or buy something else?", HUH???
WTF!!??? now I have to wait 2 days min. for credit card reversal!!!!!

    • Hi Jimmy, Did you end up getting your money back ok?

  • canon mount is back.
