  • For a paid AV, this is a pretty sweet-ass deal. Anyone use/d and/or would recommend it?

    • +2

Its a great AV. However I still prefer Eset if I can get my hands on a cheap license.

But for $10 for 2 years, this is definitely worth it.

BTW: If you buy the license, you can activate it later (If you are currently on subscription).

      • Apparently the subs are additive as well, even across products. It was in one of the previous bargains, confirmed by Bitdefender support.

      • I managed to get the previous $10 offer last time and replaced Kaspersky Internet Security. I found this as good IMHO.
Anyone know/suggest/guess if you can get this offer again and activate it after the first offer license expires (in two years) effectively getting 4 years for $20?

        • Looks like you can:

If the license key is for the same product and number of users, and the previous license key is already registered inside the BitDefender software…Two or more license keys can be automatically merged to a maximum subscription time of 1095 days.
The validity days of special Bitdefender packs (e.g. Sphere, Family Pack) can not be merged with other Bitdefender license keys.

…taken from the Bitdefender forums as reported by Technical Support. Although there are a few posts stating that when entering the second license key, both licenses started to count down the license days. This then seems to have been fixed by Technical Support and the license days combined.

      • It's better than ESET… when it works.

I have issues with BD though.

You can't totally remove it for one, just like with most AVs. If you attempt to remove it, you can't reinstall it because it thinks its still installed.

Also if you are coming from another AV, some stuff left behind by that one slows BD down a lot. Boot time was ridiculous after I removed ESET and put BD on. But when I fresh formatted and put BD on, it was fast, and no more pause.

I only recommend BD after a clean install of Windows, not as a migration from another product.

For now, it's working right. And it is better than ESET was. But when my license expires, I might need to format my hdd.

theres ways to fully delete it.

        • Sounds like you just need to do a registry clean.

        • I used the BD uninstall tool. It should have done that itself. Many of the processes of uninstall were unable to complete due to resources in use (how amateur). I tried booting into safe mode to uninstall, that fixed all but one process which still couldn't complete.

I still had icons in my start menu for BD. And when I tried to reinstall BD, it wouldn't let me, it thought I already had BD installed.

The only way I know how to rid myself of it completely was a clean format.

theres ways to fully delete it.

Well the bitdefender uninstall tool wasn't one of them. If it requires esoteric knowledge to remove this thing, then I'd say the developers failed.

    • I was using Norton before, what I dislike about this AV is that it tries to automate everything. I prefer no what is going on. It deleted quite a few of my self compiled files that are perfectly safe and the whitelist process was a pain. Anyway for $10 I can't complain. :P

Does this version annoy you every single day when you don't create a MyBitdefender account?

    • +2

      Yes

    • Surely on the second day, you take the thirty seconds to create a fake Gmail account and be done with it?

  • +1

I am using this one, no problem, excellent.

    • gonna give it a shot.

been using esset (free) since forever

unable to purchase whilse trying paypal

    • +4

Did you try changing your address to an American one whilst still in the PayPal checkout popup?

There should be an option to change delivery address.

      If that still doesn't work;
Maybe try doing it from your mobile. For some reason the discount code was removed after returning back to the site from PayPal, but I tried it again on my mobile using the same U.S address and it worked.

      • +2

Thanks emoticon. Indeed that worked. I went to google and searched fake US addresses and just did a copy/paste.

I tried on the same purchase session on my PC and it did work (so even if Newegg refuses the sale the first time just choose paypal again and enter the US address)

        K.

  • Thanks Eastern Culture!! This was bloody perfect. Have my work PC, home PC and partner's PC, all of which had their AV expire recently. Bargain indeed.

  • finally done,

    just checkout with paypal,

then change shipping address once you inserted your password.

finding a shipping address is the hard part.

    then you're set!

It's usually best to choose a US state that doesn't have sales tax just in case you get charged it. One of: Alaska, Oregon, Delaware, Montana, New Hampshire.

    • +1

I did exactly that and a few hours later got a response that my sale is voided and they will refund the amount.. No reason..

  • Thanks easternculture, I purchased 5 licenses the maximum for the promo. Looks like I wont need protection for another 10 years :)

    • Your welcome, its great that bitdefender licenses stack :D

  • +1

There doesn't seem to be much advantage of this versus the free Internet Security version from Westpac. Unless I'm missing something?

    • The free one is only 6 months now I think?

  • Thanks, easternculture.

My St. George one is about to expire, so the timing was great.

Download was fine after changing PayPal address to the States, and it's now running on my PC and laptop.

    Thanks again.

  • Hmm, no serials after 40 minutes. I did receive a paypal email after the transaction, but only to say that I'd submitted an order to Newegg.

    • Did u recieve them yet ?

    • any luck ? i'm still waiting too for 3 hours.

      • I just got a response that my sale was voided and would be refunded, no reason.. I logged out through paypal and put US address in that way..

  • Just got off Live Chat with Bitdefender Chat Support.

It's running 2014 on my laptop, but 2013 on the PC, so I was concerned.

They said to keep running 2013 until it expires, then uninstall it and install 2014.

  • Problem with the code now… nice one!

  • Just got my codes after an hour!

I'm surprised the keys are only 7 characters long.

  • What's the difference Anti-Virus and Internet security? I was under the impression internet security did a tad more, so is there any reason to change from KIS to something like this?

    • +1

so is there any reason to change from KIS to something like this?

      yes, because its cheap

  • Is this better than Vipre antivirus?? Can this be installed on a windows 2008 Server machine??

    • Vipre blocks malicious websites, but doesn't give me an option to say "I understand the risks, take me there anyway". The only way you can get into the site if it's a false positive is to disable the website blocking completely, meaning a truly malicious website will not get blocked.

You can't make exceptions and judge on a case by case basis when to override their blocker.

It's good in one way though: They sell lifetime subscriptions which you can buy on ebay for $40.

Yes, detects more viruses and has far less impact on system performance:

The most convoluted order process ever.

Its against my principles to pay for software but Bitdefender is rated as the best AV and its very cheap..

You need to get a life and stop trolling…

  • Are you allowed to buy it again if you purchased it last time? I think it says limit 1 per customer, but is this treated as a new deal?

    • Hi Lostn, its Limit of 5 per customer. You can go ahead and buy more :D

  • +1

so when can i expect to receive the code? Its been about 3 hours, and still nothing..
all i got is an order confirmation from NewEgg…
    thanks!

    • Be patient. It will eventually get to you. Unless you got an email that order could not be processed, you order should be good

    • Have you got a payment confirmation?

      • yep, the order went through ok

    • I am on the same boat, it's been 4 hours, i spoke to live chat and they said it takes 2 days to process the order, is that how long it took others to receive the code?

I paid with paypal with fake american address.

  • Just to clarify I read the post before and the impression I'm getting is:

    • keys don't expire so I can use it 5 years, 10years down the track if they still exist? And to the current one?
    • since the maximum I can merge is 1095 days there's no point even merging it now since I will lose 365 days?
  • Would this work with WHS2011??

  • i have this. i was annoyed when it didnt stop that Conduit poop from taking over my browsers.

  • edit was unsure how to install on other PCs. Found it just as I finished typing this message ( typical ) You have to go to " Renew Product Licence "

  • +3

    OMG,

    my order was VOIDED.

    during the verification process?

    what do i do guys?

  • Quite a few features come with BitDefender. Anyone here use any of them or find them useful?

    • I'm amazed that out of all the features they don't block websites like Norton with heuristic detection. For instance if there is a Facebook scam site (not phishing but a voucher scam) norton would block it and click it's a clickjack or something. BD hasn't done this but i'm sure its detection rate for viruses is still good.

  • When do you enter the promo code? At the end?

    • when it is in the cart. there is a "Apply Promo Codes" have to register your email first.

      • Thanks hsf. Successfully ordered and received confirmation ;-)

  • I'm a little confused, in previous posts regarding this deal, I remembered reading somewhere that the keys don't expires if you don't activate them and the keys can be combined. However I had a chat with support today and below is the transcript:

Chat session with Cosmin S. - Commercial Support

    Hi,

I would like to know whether the different expiry dates on 2keys in account can be combined together in one?

Cosmin S. has joined the chat.

    Cosmin S. (09:48:53) : Hello Peter!
Cosmin S. (09:49:04) : How are you today?
    Peter (09:49:20) : Good
Peter (09:49:49) : Did you see my question on the top?

Cosmin S. (09:50:10) : Yes I did. Allow me a moment please to check your account, thank you.

    Peter (09:50:28) : ok

Cosmin S. (09:53:29) : Unfortunately Peter, one of your license keys cannot be subdued to changes because it is from Westpac.

Peter (09:55:56) : Is there any way I can swap the keys to different computers? The laptop I rarely used has a key that expires in 605 days while the computer I use everyday only last me 239 days.

Cosmin S. (09:57:57) : Well I believe you can manage your account information, also the computers that are registered to your Bitdefender on this webpage www.my.bitdefender.com , where you should have an account. You can find your computers enlisted on the webpage.

Peter (09:58:32) : So how do I do that? Remove all the computers and reregister keys to computer that I want?

Cosmin S. (09:59:25) : Yes, I believe that is the best way, Peter.

Peter (10:00:56) : Another question, right now newegg has the TS keys on special, so I decide to buy 3 of them, can you combine the 3 keys into one?

Cosmin S. (10:02:01) : I cannot guarantee since I do not have the details of the license key you will get from newegg, Peter.

Peter (10:02:54) : so you're saying if I give you the keys details, you could tell me?

    Cosmin S. (10:03:10) : Yes.

Peter (10:04:30) : Sorry another question, does the key that is generated from a promotion, e.g. from a magazine website, expires if not used within a certain date?

Cosmin S. (10:05:52) : I believe so, if it won`t be activated for more than the time that you purchase it for, it could expire.

Peter (10:07:19) : so you're saying if I get a promotion key on 1/1/13 and if I don't used it by 1/1/14, the key expires? What happen if I use it on 31/12/13, does that mean it only has 1 day worth of license or it has 365 days starting from 31/12/13?

Cosmin S. (10:07:54) : If you will activate it on the 31/12/13, it will start with a full year validity.

Peter (10:09:04) : but if I activate it on 1/1/14, it become invalid?

Cosmin S. (10:09:24) : Yes, I presume it will expire then.

Peter (10:10:16) : So, are you suggesting I shouldn't buy keys on special then since it has an expiry date although I haven't activate it?

Cosmin S. (10:11:32) : Well, yes if it goes over your current validity time.

So in short, hypothetically speaking, if I buy 2x2years deal and I don't combine them, I can't use one of the 2 years deal? Can some wise Ozbargainers enlighten me?

    • I think that's correct. Your best bet is to activate both and combine them through support.

      • That sucks. Totally. Sucks. (TS)

Got a Voided order email. Hmmmmm

    • +2

Same here. Did it using the exact same method as the others.

      • +2

        same here and yes

  • +1

Mine got voided too….used paypal, US address, 2 different cards.

  • I used to use bitdefender, decided i know longer liked the interface and moved to kaspersky which was cheap at jb-hifi.

Watch out for the Bitdefender if you use a credit card they will try auto renew and it was always a pain to turn off. Which i never really liked.

Was always looking to try a different product but a cheap offer would come up each year and i would get a new subscription.

This price is pretty awesome though.

  • Did anyone actually recieve the codes when paid with Paypal? should I buy with CC instead?

I haven't heard anything about my order, probably voided as well.
