With Amaysim using optus cost$39.90 unlimited talk, txt and 4GB data

or Telechoice $20 for $500 call, unlimited txt, 1GB data, using TESLTRA NEXT G

This is not cheap at all

    • I don't think any of what you mentioned provides a 4G service.

If you phone is not capable of 4G (but only 3.5G, HSPA+) then amaysim/Telechoice would be good, but if you want 4G speeds, forget it! :P

what good is 4G with only 1gb data

        • +4

i like to load my google faster

        • -1

amaysim optus 3G is about 4mbps for my test

Telechoice Telstra Next G is about 9Mbps/3Mbps

So far dont see any reason for optus 4G while it is not even cover Malvern which is only about 15mins from Melbourne CBD

my test result is 4G only show until Richmond station that is useless

That's the whole point I want 4G but at least give us 10GB or 15GB per month otherwise if the bloody 50Mbps speed can burn the 1GB in less than a day

        • lol 15gb per month. telecomms ain't cheap mate

        • I don't understand if 4G needs more data download than 3G to load one web page? I thought the same but just faster?

        • Terahammer - 4G, unlimited calls /text, 15GB data for less than double the price of this deal - $60. Can be done.

Depending on your mindset, usage, and with comparison to plans close in price with still measly data - could possibly be called cheap.

        • Wtfnodeal - you thought right.

Biggest pitfall of 4G (somewhat ironically) is video.

By the time you decide - maybe in just seconds - that you don't actually want to watch a given video in its entirety, on 4G it may have buffered all the way to the end, with all that data disappearing from your allowance.

4g is so overrated and yet it comes in as an excuse to spend way more on sub par phone contacts/pre paid plans.

$35 for 3G Telstra virtually unlimited calls/text/mms plus 2.5gb data through Aldi Mobile
        $39.90 for 3G unlimited calls/text/mmsplus 4gb data through Amaysim

They are the best high usage plans on good networks if you really want 4G then you need to overpay for it, but keep it up because your unclogging the 3G networks and subsiding my cheap phone bill.

        • 4g is so overrated

I've noticed a huge difference since upgrading my phone recently.
Same price as my old 3G plan…

        • That probably only means you were getting shafted on you plan :-)

        • Have you actually used LTE? The latency itself is already worth changing for, not to mention the really fast upload speeds. Once you get used to LTE, its awfully painful going back to HSDPA…

        • Yes I have, I think the technology is brilliant my problem with it is the absurd amounts of data that they package it with.

At max speed on LTE you can get through a 1gb download in just over 93 seconds, now that's theoretical maximum and full download speed. So assuming that you can download at 1/5th the maximum speed which is 2.2mb per second you can get through 1gb of downloads in just over 465 seconds (7 minutes and 45 seconds).

I am aware of the limitations of 3G but the point I am trying to make is that what is the point of being able to download at such speeds when you don't get the bandwidth? To be capable of getting through a months worth of data in under 10 minutes is laughable, using Aldi mobile as another example it is slower but they offer 2.5gb of data. To get through all of that data it would take 2844 seconds (47 minutes and 24 seconds) at theoretical max speed.

Now it may seem silly that I'm talking downloading at maximum speed for so long but when you think about it is downloading for 10 minutes really that long?

Interesting options, hadn’t found either of them. Guess it depends what value you put on each feature, they are very close. I still like the $35 Optus option over these. I like the 500 mins so no connect fee, unlimited SMS and MMS, 4G and it being direct with the telco.

The Telechoice Option Month to Month is $30. The $500 is shared between calls, connect fees and MMS but it is Telstra so thats good.
The Amaysim sounds good but is $5 more but you do get unlimited calls.

Virgin have and extra 1GB on BYO plans at the moment, an that includes 4G coverage…

    https://www.virginmobile.com.au/sim-card

    eg. $30 for $450 calls and 1.5GB

  • +1

How is this cheaper than vaya? For $20/m you get 500mb more data but mms not included

  • Can anyone tell me their experiences or what they've heard about the $20 Telechoice Sim Plan ?

    • Telstra network, good connection. Include international calls but not international texts. No 4G as mentioned above。

  • If you want 4G with a decent 3.8 GB data and $950 cap on Telstra's network check out their Cap Encore for $50/month. In my opinion the best deal out there for 4G atm.
Many people don't realise how cap encore works for you.

  • Look out for these gotchas in data plans:

"Data is ordinarily counted in 1mb increments…" & "Excess Data Usage $0.50 per MB or part thereof…"
This means if you only download 221Kb - its rounded up and treated as 1024Kb.

So a 4GB plan on Telstra (counted per Kb) is not the same as a 4GB plan on Optus (counted per Mb). That being said, Telstra is way over priced anyway… so you'll never win either way as a consumer with capped data plans.
