  • They have been cheaper, but I don't know if the deal is still active.

I have the 32gb version and it's ok. It's on the slow side at ~4MB/s write speed but it's fine for my use. I have faster drives when I need the extra speed.

ALDI clearance prices aren't consistent though.

The write performance on these are TERRIBLE, only buy if you won't be in a hurry when using it.

FWIW I use one myself, but only for work files which are fairly static. Nicest thing about them is their physical size I guess, and this price is pretty good too.

  • This will be great plugged into my router as a storage device where speed isn't an issue.
Good price per GB for flash storage.

Good deal, thanks for the bargain!

  • If you do not require great read or write speed, this is a good bargain at this price. Thank you original poster.

  • Thanks for the post. Just got one. Good deal.

So, for real, don't buy a USB2 key anymore. Buying a USB3 Sandisk Extreme has changed how I think of buying USB's. It's actually reads at near ssd speed (or SSD from 2 years ago, 200mbps). Buying one that reads at literally 1/50th is a waste of your time. Lash out and buy a $70 Sandisk Extreme and appreciate an amazing USB instead of just a high capacity one.

Depends what you plan to use it for. I bought 3 for Linux/FreeBSD NUC boot drives.

This is fine for a PVR which requires a USB drive to record/time shift, in which case a USB 3 device is wasted.

Can I ask how is this for settop boxes, to record tv shows and movies?

        • +1

It would work fine, but I definitely recommend getting a hard drive. 64gb wont give you a lot of recording time

        • thanks. I don't record that often though

We received it today. It is pretty fast. 7mb/s.

Won't be copying big files to it, just small documents here and there. It should last me for a while.

    • Received mine as well. I can vouch for the ~7mb/s speed.

      $ sudo dd if=/dev/urandom of=/dev/sdd bs=1M

      [blade 1]
      61051+0 records in
      61050+0 records out
      64016220160 bytes (64 GB) copied, 8442.66 s, 7.6 MB/s

      [blade 2]
      61051+0 records in
      61050+0 records out
      64016220160 bytes (64 GB) copied, 8370.58 s, 7.6 MB/s

2.3 hours to fill versus the 'expected' 4.5 hours.

      Thanks OP!
