  • That is a great price thanks theearth

  • Bought it for $349.20 before cash back at DSE recently. Awesome price!

  • +4

Wow, looks like the "other" store will be real busy today.

    • Busy updating their price and making up excuses?

      • +1

I'm not sure if you can get cashback at OW…they amy not count as a "participating store". Any ideas?

        • +2

OW should relabel their price match advertisement as "we will price match whenever we feel like".

galaxy "7 is $99 after cash back?

There is no cash back for galaxy "7. Only for notes and kids 7" tablet.

  • What sort of tablet would you recommend for kids for less than $90?

    • not sure how those cheapo asian tablets from coles or aldi do. i've heard mixed reviews

    • +52

Panamax tablets can be gotten for $1 on special…

      • Yap, $1 for 100 Panamax tablets. Lol!

    • Officeworks Penda Pads are terrible don't bother with those.

      • Thanks for the advise. I was actually about to get one of those.

        • We bought a $64 7" Thomson from Target.. seems to be OK

    • +4

Do you not like your children?

      • +5

No it is in fact not a bad idea for kids to start with a budget tablet for them to drop it and break it within months. After they learn how to handle it with care then upgrade with a better one.

        • +50

maybe kids should start with a crayon and a stack of paper?

        • This.

        • +1

        • +1

Exactly. I have my kids do the crayon and papers colouring etc before rewarding them with iPad time. These techs ain't meant for kids to use them 24/7 that is what I am trying to say.

    • +4

Try a used or refurbished nexus 7 2012 if your budget is $90. Might be lucky to find one?

  • +4

    Buy a nexus 7 2013 instead kids

    • +1

Agreed, if only it can be bought for the same price then that would be the better option

    • +1

Apples and oranges, this comes with an active pen.

    • -1

gasps But that doesn't come with the innovative features of touchwiz?!

      • +7

Personally I don't like touching my wiz.

  • Awesome price… wished it had 3G or 4G.

    • +1

Bought the 4G model from TGG last month for $348 b4 cashback. Currently still showing $548 at BingLee.

This is a crackingly good price for the WiFi only model.
Great little tablet with split screens and S-pen, making multitasking possible. In my view it's better than the iPad mini for those reasons. You can get an auto sleep/wake case for it.

  • This is an amazing price!!! Jumped on it right away, been wanting to upgrade my old 7' Nexus to this!

    • Is this better than the 2012 nexus 7? What about 2013 nexus 7?

      • Yeh I'm quite unsure! Wireless1 has refurbished Nexus12 for 130/170 so not sure about this deal. What's so good about the note?

        • +1

          8" forever and the pen.

        • +2

Yah I find the 8" is perfect size.
7" is alittle bit small, and the 7" of the Nexus looks strange with around 1inch to the top and bottom… they should have filled it with screen!

As for the 10-12" these are too large for long term use, hurts wrist.

        • I brought the 2012 nexus 7… its okay I guess, i recall reading all the raving reviews about how amazing it is, but really i thought it was mehhh like 5/10… not sure on the new model though.
this samsung one is 1' bigger and has the cool pen thingy… and its a really good price as i know these samsungs are around the $399 mark.
Here is a site to compare both tablets - http://www.phonearena.com/reviews/Samsung-Galaxy-Note-8.0-vs…

        • .inches

        • +2

10-12" would hurt more than the wrist.

        • Yes. I have a excite 13. Good for viewing videos tho.

  • Almost jumped on this with DSE sale. So glad I waited but could not resist at this price

  • +1

Can't resist.. got OW to match.

    • Did you call OW to price match? or go in store? They're playing hard ball with me saying that Bing Lee have the cash back stated on their website and since OW don't, they can't price match. Which is a load of BS. Any suggestions of what to do?

      • +1

Wow that is harsh. I think they need to be able to price match the price stated on Bing Lee's website regardless of the cash back offer. They are not price matching the $198 price tag they are price matching $248 price tag. Have you tried a different Officeworks store?

        • Agree.
What about the $149 7"? Theres no way they can argue that one.

      • I called them.. Don't tell me OW is not part of cash back now..

        • +7

They are, I rang up and asked just in case.

        • So purchase at OW are eligible for the cash back? The guy I got mine from suggested otherwise…

        • That's what the people on the Samsung promotions line told me.

        • +7

I rang the samsung promotions line (1800 900 730) and they confirmed that OW is a participating store for the purposes of the cashback offer.

      • I went in store and they happily price matched it for me including delivery.

        • So they price matched Bing Lee, and its eligible for the $50 cashback promotion? Without sounding stupid, what is the difference by purchasing with OfficeWorks?

        • +2

You get 5% off bringing the price to about $237.50 before price match AND you get it in your greedy little hands straight away! No waiting!

        • nvm

        • Thanks mate! :)

        • Why would OW include delivery when bing lee has a store front for pick up option.

        • +1

          no binglee in vic.

  • +2

If u need the device because of pen then go for it.

if not then I would suggest something else as screen resolution not great compared to what's out there. Once you are used to high resolution, anything else just hurts your eyes

    • Does the options you are mentioning exist for less than $200 ? If not…

    • i wouldnt say hurt your eyes….

    • to most people here, any price above this offer hurts their eyes too

  • +1

apparantly battery life isn't too stellar (5-7 hours). Which is ok I guess, but I'm pretty sure iPad Mini lasts close to 10. Albeit no pen. So yeh I guess you make a compromise (although the res is also less on the note).

  • Good find OP

  • Ordered… Only worry is the resolution after reading the previous comment.

    • +1

I had a play with one at OW before I bought mine, seems fine to me, and I use an IPAD Air daily

      • I agree, I was torn between the Nexus7 or the 8" Tab3 (non note) and feel the Samsjng had mor plusses such as memory slot.

I also read the resolution increase made little difference. But frome the other comment re hirez, if you dont go there you dont need to work about going back.

  • OW should price match including the delivery. If theyre playing hard ball try another store.

  • Any good this device?

  • Really want to like this but battery life (5-7hours) if that is correct, is a deal breaker.

    EDIT:
Seems not correct. It can do8 hours of video no worries.
    http://www.techradar.com/au/reviews/pc-mac/tablets/samsung-g…

Tech radar score still only 3/5 though. Hmm to buy or not?

    • I think lots of reviews are based on it costing around $400…for $200 this is much better.

      • +3

Just realized I was looking at the Tab 8 not the Note 8 on Tech Radar so scratch what I said (cant edit now).
Will have a coffee and think about it.

  • been eyeing this for a while. This is the cheapest by a long shot… bought. Thanks OP!

  • +1

Price matched at TGG. $153 after cashback. Thanks OP.

    • what the? How?

      • +6

That's taking into account the $50 AMEX cashback https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/138773 . Sorry for not making that clearer.

        • +2

Cool, but don't you have to spend $250+ at good guys to get the $50 AMEX cashback?

        • Ah so

        • Nice work, I missed the boat with that! Good bargain hunting!!!

        • I think TGG is happy to do $250 instead of $249 for you if you ask for a price match.

        • @ufohunter Yes, TGG charged $253 ($248 + $5 delivery)

        • can you price match at TGG over the phone or online?

        • No, only in store.

        • You price matched in store…but paid for delivery?

    • Is that right? Wow!!! I thought it was 198 after cashback?

    • What is the price match policy @ TGG. better deal than OW ?? Thanks.

    • +2

      <applause>

    • Can you post your receipt please?

    • Is TGG a participating store for the purposes of the cashback offer?Their website doesn't mention it.

      • +1

The link of the product page already mentioned $50 cashback.

        • Thanks, The image said.
          I was looking for text:(

Hopefully TGG still has stock after my working hours.

    • I guess you could pay $374 at TGG and then claim the "30 day price guarantee" for 120% refund (saving $25). That makes it $123.

      • if you claim before Bing Lee sold it all out.

    • TGG is part of the participating shop for cashback?

      • @ ltw1977

TGG is part of the participating shop for cashback?

        Yes they are.

  • +1

I am after a 3G/4G model. Want to find the best deal for a decent tablet with internet on SIM.

  • +1

Playing with it in the shop I find 1280x800 too low on an 8inch and the left and right bezels are huge. I would rather spend $117 more (yes I know it is significantly more) and get the LG G-pad 1920x1200 at JB. Differnt story if you want the S-pen.

  • +2

The Note 8.0 is easily worth the extra $50 over the Tab 3. I'm really not a big fan of tablets, or Samsung products for that matter, but the Note is bloody excellent. I'd also get one instead of a Nexus in a heartbeat - the extra screen real estate makes a massive difference.

It's extremely fast, good battery life and I hardly notice the lowish resolution. The pen is OK, but if you were serious about using it I'd definitely invest in a full size one - it's pretty excruciating using the tiny one provided. Not sure if it's mentioned in the specs, but my el cheapo eBay cover turns on the screen when opened, just like an iPad.

Loading up a custom ROM dramatically improved performance and pen accuracy.

    • I'm thinking about buying one and am new to Android. Do you please have a link to the ROM you used? Would like to suss out some more first.

    • +1

I find Omega roms are normally really good :)

  • How would this go for 14yr old twins, running plex, playstore games (real racing etc)

Can they play all apps on the play store unlike what ive head from nexus 7

    Would these go ok?

    • +5

No time for questions. Just BUY!
