Great price on a fantastic SSD from sandisk

    Thank OP

      • +1

What OS are you running and how full is the drive?

      • -6

I was pretty keen on getting the SSD and now thanks to you I'm going to get Crucial from Amazon :)

        Cheers.

      • +11

What's the point of your story? Obviously you have a software configuration or driver issue.

        • -3

The 120 GB Sandisk is ~75GB full.

The 90 GB Intel SSD is ~80GB full.

Intel SSD run way faster than Sandisk.

Point of the story is Sandisk SSD's are not very reliable.

        • So you're saying the Sandisk is slow, the Intel is way faster, but buy the Samsung because it is a much better deal?

        • -1

Yes, Compared to this MSY's Sandisk SSD the Amazon's Samsung SSD is a much better deal right now. Unfortunately, There is no deal on Intel SSD's right now. So if someone is planning to buy a SSD right now, they should instead get the Samsung SSD. Hope that's clear enough.

Your drive is either getting too full, or you don't have TRIM enabled to recover the lost performance.

        • Your drive is either getting too full, or you don't have TRIM enabled

Those are the exact two issues I was searching for further info on above. I didn't want to come right out and say it until I knew a bit more but yes, I suspect one or the other or perhaps even both.

Based on the OS answer, I was going to find out how they can check if TRIM was enabled or not and point them at the info but if they came back and said the drive was chockas, was going to suggest that was why it was performing badly.

Pretty good price for the R9 290.

    • Nice price , but it's the gigabyte one with the heat problem right? (recently bought another brand instead because of research)

Unsure if it was fixed or not, but those cards had an issue with overheating, and downclocking the card as a result.(advise to google for potential problems/fixes with it before purchase)

      • +3

That was the GV-R929OC-4GD-GA; see complaints at Newegg (this is the GV-R929WF3-4GD-GA) and newer drivers have fixed the throttling problem the 290s had when going into "Uber" mode. .

According to AMD, the problem was caused by improper fan settings on retail cards and imprecise tuning that relied on power modulation (PWM) rather than a specified RPM speed. As a result, the company said, some retail cards that were supposed to be spinning at 47% were actually spinning as much as 350 RPM slower — thus causing the overheat issue. Last night the company pushed a new driver that would supposedly fix this by relying on RPM tuning to set fan speeds rather than PWM manipulation.

The WindForce cooler is solid, easily the best available for a 290 right now.

Gpu prices will probably go down further following the ltc crash.
Lots of people trying to sell their miners because they "didn't fit in the case" or "no time for gaming"

  • +1

Damn. Those are amazing prices for the SanDisk Extreme II and R9 290. I wonder how much stock they've got of those.

Literally no better choice of a 480/500GB SSD for an Aussie at the moment. The Crucial M500 480GB from Amazon would probably come to slightly more than $285 after shipping and conversion and isn't as fast (still fast enough for most though).

Got my M500 1TB drive 4 months ago from Amazon, delivered to Brisbane for au$525 all up, which I thought was excellent. Speeds are the same as the extreme ii. My new Macbook Pro's almost as fast as my old PC lappy now.. ;-)

      • I can't complain about my M500 480GB either (the other pluses are power-failure protection and more reserve NAND; which the Extreme II lacks), but if I was shopping around for an SSD now, then it'd be no contest: local warranty, no shipping, no conversion, no brainer.

Has anyone tried those android touchscreens?

    • +1

i have the same one. It's very buggy, sometimes touchscreen doesnt work, and sometimes it doesnt want to shut down. Obviously the specs are quite horrible coz it's so cheap, but you definitely notice how slow it is.

      • Specs wise, it looks comparable to my Galaxy Nexus (dual core 1.2GHz, 1GB RAM) which runs Android 4.1 fine. I can't tell what the GPU is though - would that be the reason why it's slow?
Or perhaps it's something to do with what's pre-installed?

Can you run a custom ROM on it?

Thanks for the advice by the way.

    • there was a deal with the monitor on COTD some time ago - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/136523. currently using it as an external monitor and also as a usb hub. The touch screen doesnt seem to work too well with windows 7. I dont use the android system much - it is rather slow and it takes about 30 seconds to shut down the monitor if android is running. Touch screen works pretty well on the android system.

      • touch screen and win 7 don't mix… it is horrid.. hehe win 8 was much better wonder how it is for Win 8 users.

    • Yes…

It -doesn't- run all Google Play apps that should work on it…

Wait for the next version, & see if 2 GB of RAM & a faster CPU help to speed it up.

It might be OK as a -young- child's computer… eg, one with less well developed hand eye coordination.

PS Check previous OzB for warning that specs may be wrong, eg:

      • 4 GB storage (rather than 8 gb on specs)

We read somewhere (on an AOC brochure for this) that you'd get BOTH a mouse & keyboard in the box, but ours had none! YouTube video review showed small differences, too. (Indian model?)

      • It might be 8gb storage but 4gb is occupied by the system ROM, similar to how you buy a 16gb nexus 5 and can only use like 8gb of it.

  • That printer can I simply drive to my nearest store and buy one today? I am going there anyway.

    • +1

Check store stock levels beforehand (can be done online)

  • $5 speakers :O

  • Those extreme II are even cheaper than the Amazon deal a few days ago..

    • very noice

  • +3

Don't bother with the AOC android. It's very laggy

  • I have that printer but the lower spec model and its been working fine. I been using generic cartridges without any issue.

Tempted to get the Viewsonic screen as its a good price for a fullHD screen, any thoughts on what it would be like for gaming. Mostly playing Rust, War Thunder, World of tanks and I have a 16:10 1680 x 1050 21.5 inch with 660ti video card.

    • But WoT and WT look so much better on a massive screen. Believe me. Find yourself a nice projector and drool.

That said, I'm cheap and play on a 22" Samsung. But in contrast, have played on an 11" laptop and also seen it on ~60" projector.

    • I didn't realise they still made inkjet printers, haven't seen one without a scanner in years now.

  • But i got this email at 12:54 - how did you post this so quickly? :S

  • +1

MSY never have any stock when they have these sales…good prices though!

Plenty of SSDs at Hurstville at 11am.

  • I have been quite impressed with the Android pc. Does the job for what it is. IPS screen is very responsive.

  • I am thinking of upgrading my laptop hdd. It's a Sony T series 13.3 inch touch screen ultra book.I dunno whether it's upgradable or not. It does have an empty slot. I think it is for hard disk. Anyone own this particular model and successfully upgraded the hdd? I googled it. But couldn't find the answer. Sony tech support is terrible.

    • Post your model number, most likely you will need to replace your Hardrive or DVD Drive (via a caddy) to install an SSD.

      • It's svt13137cgs . It's an Ultrabook. No DVD drive.but there is an empty sata slot. Thanks for the reply.

  • Just got the printer and 2 speakers

    plenty at kingsford

  • Man … I bought a 480GB M500 just days ago for $305 …

    I'd want this SanDisk …

  • +1

You can get the 480Gb m500 Crucial cheaper at Newegg
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820148…

But I'd recommend going for the SanDisk Extreme II as it seems to be more reliable http://www.sandisk.com.au/products/ssd/sata/extreme-ii/

  • Just picked up one of the AOC tablet screens. Going to use it as a stand alone tablet and second touch screen monitor for my surface pro 2.

I'll give some reports of how it performs later tonight!

    • How did it go?

      • so far so good. It's not the speediest android experience. But used as a second monitor it's great. I used to accidentally go to use the other monitor i have as a touchscreen, especially if I hadn't connected a keyboard and mouse and it was really annoying. Now I have none of those issues!

The real test will be how well it can do everything else, I'm going to use it as my home torrent machine etc so I have something permanently connected to my NAS.

        So far I'm stocked though!

  • I have a friend who is after notebook around the $500 -$600.oo price range, with so many choices, can anyone recommend one particular model?
    I am liking the Samsung NP905S3G-K02AUfor $595.00…

  • MSY Auburn dont have stock, except a display demo. This is @ 10:40am. Wasted my time there.

  • The speaker is no longer $5?

  • SA shops each got -ONE- AOC Android AIO (except Port Adelaide, which was not checked… they had none when we looked online)

  • Sandisk SSD SOLD OUT
