if by ‘eBook’ you mean the Microsoft Open eBook .OPF format (an obscure zipped XML format with limited support), then — why would you bother??
if you are referring to PDF files, there are hundreds of free tools out there that can view or create them (eg. PDFCreator, doPDF, BullzipPDF)…
this tool appears targeted at people who don’t have an Office Suite or Word;
on the other hand, if you need to do any real PDF editing, you ought to try the free program Inkscape or buy Acrobat Professional.
BTW: this program IS actually available for free from the author, Wise Dove, but I’d suggest alternatives as it’s super slow even on a shiny new 4GB QuadCore PC.

even if it is only $1 there is plenty of free software out there that does the equivalent and better
