It's a single core device, might want to take this into account before purchasing.

  • Any idea on RAM in this phone?

  • Quick search shows CM doesn't support Alcatel Onetouch :(

  • 0 .5 gb. ha that droid is 2years old! then again..so to are 30% on the platform, older still.

  • Might make a decent game machine for the kids.
    Will it run minecraft?

    • possibly but not very well I'd imagine, the cpu in it is a MTK6575 Cortex A9 at 1GHz, GPU is a SGX531.
To put that into perspective it has similar specs to the Motorola Defy, Droid X with their TI OMAP3 chipset (Cortex A8 + SGX530) from 2010.

i had the alcatel spop and it was a horrible phone, I returned one it full of glitches but it could've just been the single unit. battery overheated really bad and phone would come up with warning and switch off. the touchpad was not aligned properly, when talking there would be echoes. i loved the phone and the apps/software installed on it but it was just impossible to use which was a real shame

  • Does vodafone let you unlock these for free or if not how much?

    • Or can bagman supply an unlock code?

Compare this against a $79 4" Huawei Y300.Ends up being $71.10 when DSE has their seemingly regular 10% off sale. Gets u a dual-core CPU, 5MP cam, VGA front cam, $5 unlocking via bagman and plenty of user-created ROMs at modaco.com . Worth the $26.60 stretch over the M'POOP.

    • Thanks for that Cheaparoo.

For the technically minded, here are the full specs as well as user reviews side by side:

      Alcatel One Touch M'Pop

      Huawei Ascend Y300

The main benefits the Huawei piece has over the Alcatel one are:
      * It's dual core
      * The Camera has flash and autofocus (important for reading QR codes)

Might indeed be worthwhile to wait for a sale on the Y300

We did a detailed review of this deal comparing both options against each other.

It is available here for your reading pleasure

  • Thanks got one

  • Will the locked Alcatel work with PennySIM (vodafone network)? The internet gives me conflicting answers to this question.

  • I bought one and I like it.

I also bought one and I love it. It was lagging, so I decided to root it. Now it doesn't lag at all. I rooted it easily without flashing or going to recovery or anything like that. This is how I did it.
I tried the english apk rooting programs, none of them worked, neither did the pc programs, so I decided to use a chinese apk.

If you don't want a chinese superuser and don't want to follow instructions to remove it, don't install vroot or a chinese rooting program.

Some useful forum posts: Changing chinese superuser to english superuser. Although I didn't follow these forum posts step by step, I just read them, that's how I figured it out.

This one is a good one:
    http://www.techbloggerzone.com/2013/10/change-superuser-chin…

    Programs:
    • Supersu Root Copy
    • Supersu v1.76
    • Root Explorer (with R/O to R/W option? - If you need to change that - I don't know - mine was on R/W when I deleted the chinese superuser)
    • System Apps Installer [ROOT]
    • Root Checker/Check apk
    • Busybox
    • root enabler or root enabler - temp unroot (It didn't temp unroot, it permanently unrooted the phone)
    • Ginger unroot
    • root_4.3.apk
This is the chinese rooting program:- root_4.3.apk - It installs a chinese superuser (I think it is vroot which also comes in pc software - it also installs a chinese superuser) which I hated because it was in chinese and notifications and black popups kept on coming up - but I changed it to english superuser with supersu - Works perfectly now, I can change the settings to prevent those popups and notifications so they don't appear
    1. Install all the programs, may not need the unroot ones
    2. Install the chinese rooting program and run it but don't restart your phone
When installing and running the programs, the chinese superuser will come up, press yes to grant permissions
    3. Start the "System Apps Installer" program, but don't close it, just minimize it
    4. Install the Supersu binaries when it tells you to when you run the supersu program
    5. Start the "Supersu Root Copy" Program, but don't press any of the buttons there
    6. Go to "Root Explorer" and navigate to the System Folder, then to the Apps Folder, there you will see the superuser.apk (chinese), long press, then press the delete button (I must have changed the file system from R/O to R/W - I can't remember if I changed it, but it was on R/W when I deleted it
    7. Go back to Supersu and install the Supersu in the system folder (options are in the settings part)
      DONE
    8. Now install busybox as a lot of apks that work only with rooted phones use busybox
    9. A forum poster said he used Titanium Backup to delete the chinese superuser
    10. I was trying different methods with the root explorer program, probably tried too much and the chinese superuser apk "got stuck" and I couldn't delete it, so I just used an unroot program which deleted it, then I started from the beginning, and this time it went perfectly well.
    11. Run a root check/checking program to check for root

I love this phone, especially now it is rooted (running with English Supersu) it works really well with no lagging and I have played angry birds and space invaders on it with no lagging. It doesn't come with a microsd card, but I don't care, I'll just buy one.

If you want the best of the best, don't get it, but for $44.50 its pretty good (for the price that is) better than the telstra LG optimus L3 e400f which I also have
