It still astounds me that they are stilling the v2 against the new model for not a lot less money.
My mum has an iPad 1 that still works but because it can't update to iOS 6, she can't install a lot of newer apps.
The question is….do I get her a new iPad or swap her to an Android? She's nearly 70. Anyone else with a similar experience?

Honestly, if she's learnt and mastered iOS I'd stick with that unless of course she's majorly tech savvy. My Mum is nearly 71 and I wouldn't dream of changing her over from an iPad. The learning curve over the first six months with the iPad was pretty huge and I'm not sure she or I would like to go through that again!?
No, definitely not tech savvy (I have to screen her emails to stop her replying to spam!)
The learning curve is definitely a big thing….I just think for the tiny difference, I'll just get her the newest one…Only three shopping days until Mother's Day
What new apps does she want and are those new apps on Android, plus exactly what carlenet wisely put, does she really want to learn a new OS.
It's a case of how critical is it for her to update now, if it lasts another year then she can update to an even newer system. All technology will get outdated sometime
Just introduced her to Pandora and she LOVES it, so I thought, oh cool, I'll install it on her iPad, but no, requires iOS6…
Then there's that tool of Satan - "Farmville 2" that she's addicted to…and they've JUST brought out a special one for iPad/Mobile so they can fleece you, err I mean entertain you on the go.
overprice for an overly old tablet.
bought two of this exact model (refurbs) 2.5 years ago for the kids for school and they havent missed a beat…..almost $600 each at the time. the 32gb model is handy, with less having to back out apps to make space, as the O/S takes up only a small % of disk space compared to the 16gb models.
O/S updates will eventually catch up with them, but still running strong.
Why would you get this when you can get the retina one for $418 at Good Guys?
