Need help finding cheapest package for new Honda CR-V 2WD VTi Automatic in Sydney

Hey guys, I am looking to buy a brand new Honda CR-V 2WD VTi Automatic. What is the best deal around Sydney at the moment?

Please share the cheapest dealer and package received. Thanks in advance :)

Wouldn't you be better waiting until next month, when the dealers will be desparate to meet sales targets before the end of the financial year?

+1 for waiting for a good eofy special. I bought this car when it first came out so couldn't knock that much off the price.. I think I paid abt 33k including cargo mat, dark tints and paint protection and rear parking sensors.

Otherwise it's a pretty decent car - biggest pluses are the huge passenger and cargo space, and for the price it's comes with a lot of standard kit - alloys, camera, cruise control. Magic folding seats are awesome, pull a lever either in the cargo area or under rear seats to have an almost flat cargo area - I've moved a 6 seater dining table no problem, as well as 2 adult mountain bikes without needing to take wheels off.

Negatives are the awful urban fuel consumption (12.5l / 100kms on 95 fuel) and it feels underpowered driving uphill on motorways - it's a small engine lugging around a heavy car, but these points are not likely to be noticeable on a test drive.

  • Thanks. I am currently offered $31k for the standard one in white - no GPS upgrade. Is this a good deal or should I expect more for the price?

    • The recommended driveaway is 32290 for auto 2wd, whilst price excluding on road costs and dealer delivery is 29790 (www.goauto.com.au). 31k not an awful price but there should definitely be room to move especially at this time of year - if tints, parking sensors and a cargo mat were thrown in for that price it wouldn't be a bad deal. All colours are metallic so no diff in which colour you choose - white looks the best IMO.

Dealers usually have a bit more room to move on the models above the entry level - the 4wd vti rrp is $4300 more, but I suspect it guzzles less petrol for not having to work as hard, and on resale you'll recoup the price diff - given the chance to revisit the decision I would have gotten that one, especially if the price diff could be worked on.

I think from a resale perspective it's a good idea to look at cars early in their life cycles - crv, rav4, cx5 all come to mind. In your shoes I'd give those a test drive and wait until next month where dealers will be more aggressive in their discounting as they're trying to meet year end targets. Also given last nights budget if you drive a fair bit it might be worth giving the cx5 some consideration - it's the smallest of the 3 but best on petrol with start/stop engine.

      • thanks for the very helpful reply :) do you have anything i can refer to for $31k with tint, parking and cargo mat (e.g. past sales etc)? or how should i approach the dealer (what to ask etc)?

        • It's good you've gotten a price from the dealer and that you haven't committed yet - that's the first step.

If that's the one you've got your heart set on go back to the dealer in person and have another look at the car and sit down with the sales guy and when he asks if you've come to a decision tell him honestly you like the car but you feel the price isn't yet at a level where you feel you couldn't get a better deal shopping around. But because they've been helpful you'd rather buy from them if possible - if you're ready to buy today are they able to offer anything better before you look anywhere else?

Hopefully they come back something a bit better (possibly after going around the back discussing with mgr/having smoko) to which you say thanks but you'll need to think about it if not good enough. At some point they'll ask you (sometimes with the mgr) what would you be happy with - that's when you spell out what you want. If they say yes, then it's a win/win.

They might not improve on price - in that case you know 31k is not a terrible deal and it's waiting for you if you want it, but then you go to another dealer and give them an opportunity to improve on it.

Hope it goes well, don't forget to check out the other cars if possible. Above approach works for me but I'd be interested to hear what works for others.

        • Why not try a broker/buyers' agent and see whether a professional can find you a better price? Google found these three and there are probably others out there:

Also, Whirlpool has a wiki that may be helpful: http://whirlpool.net.au/wiki/buying_car_advice

        • how much does a broker cost?

  • any recent sales data in syd?

  • anyone bought one recently in the past month - can you please share your deal package? thanks :)

    • Melbourne - One of the friend booked CRV 2WD Auto last week..for $30k on road with tinting and floor mats…

      • thanks - that sounds great - would i be able to get that in sydney? also did your friend have to cut any of the standard inclusions to get at that price?
