750GB Western Digital MyBook Essential - Officeworks clearing at $73.76

330

I picked one up at Officeworks Auburn. It's not in their website. But this one looks exactly the same as the 1TB version:

They have 5 left. These used to sell at $111. Not bad for gb/$.

True bargain for a portable drive. Even the alone drive for 750gb is $85 on staticice.

  • My nearby stores are are all sold out, which is a shame. To those who managed to pick one up, lucky you.

  • Great Find - Lucky you
I've called my local store, no luck
    I've also called OW online
    Zero stock in QLD

    • bugger

  • nothing in gabba

  • not at Brookvale

  • got officeworks to check their system, all sold out in syd.

    • Maybe the only remainders were at Auburn.

Does Auburn tend to have more old stock?

      No luck in Hornsby.

Great price, but on whirlpool, they mentioned that 750GB drives have a high failure rate in some models.

"The 750 GB drives are getting closer in value, however be aware of high failure rates in some models (search for posts or google for results)."

      uh

i just did a search on whirlpool about 30 threads on 750gb hard drives and NONE seem to report any issues?

hard drives only fail if u misuse(e.g extreme heat or vibration) them (besides those 1tb seagates) I've had heaps of different hard drives in my life and not 1 has failed.

People get all hyped up about failure rates on whirlpool after 1 noob makes a thread and complains that his/her drive has failed.

      • wait… which 1tb seagates, i have one of those

  • my hdd failed me twice.
one was seagate and the other one was western digital.

  • Hard drives do fail. That's why you have backups.

  • None in Toowoomba, QLD

  • none in WA!

    • How did you check?

    • There are 750GB WD MyBook drives in WA, at OW, just not at this price.

  • none in ACT and surrounding areas

  • None at Hobart.

  • Both the Elizabeth St and the Russel St. stores in Melbourne CBD do not have any stock.
Guess it is just an Auburn, NSW store specific sale.

  • none in Alexandria NSW, just called.
