Araldite Epoxy Glue 60% off $4.92 for 24ml Woolworths

390

Araldite, a great general purpose adhesive. Sets only when the 2 liquids are mixed into a strong Epoxy resin. Usually retails $10 to $15 dollars. Hardens within minutes.

Says reduced for quick sale. Only disadvantage I can see with this package is it comes with a mixing nozzle to combine the two components but I can't see the standard double cap that comes with the standard packages to save the rest of the glue for next time.I will try to use one from an old tube. As long as the components are kept separate, this glue keeps well.

        Whoosh!

          dammit. it was a trap!

I wouldn't use this for a pot handle as heat softens epoxy. Depending on how hot the handle gets and how heavy the pot is, JB Weld might work. It'd be better if you can reinforce it with some metal though.

        • One of the reasons why i don't like araldite. I personally perfer JB weld where it stands up to heat and abuse.

        • I might try that. Metal is a bit too much work for me. Its only a cheapish pot that I was looking for a quick and easy fix for. Thanks

My fave glue. Yes, out shopping this afternoon so shall look for this. Still have the old Araldite so I shall make sure I keep that cap then. Use a (separate) blob of blu-tak on the nozzles if you don't have a spare cap; that's what I do with other capless tubes… Where there's a will there is always a way.

    • +1

Don't get your blobs mixed up!

      • LOL or get a new blob each time!
Aaargh … New take on Murphy's Law today!

The double cap is attached to the plunger. If you look at the plunger stem, underneath the letter i in Araldite, you'll see it.

    • +3

Bingo, you are right. Didn't even see that.

  • Another idea. Beat by 10% at Bunnings.

    • +2

They don't price beat clearance stock.

  • Use in a well ventilated area.

  • I went to my local wollies but the price was $9 something so showed them the picture of the price above and they said that its reduced to clear and are unable to price match :(

    • Same here my woollies had it for 20% off.

      • Sorry, maybe just the self mixing version as pictured being cleared.

        • My woollies had the self-mixing Fusion version as pictured for $9.70, only 20% off.
The regular version was full price.

    • Yep same for me to my local woollis was also $9 something.

Be sure to store this with the tip facing UP after opening! I found out the hard way after having to throw away a couple of barely-used syringes. The double-plug supplied to seal the ends doesn't always provide a perfect seal, and over time a small amount of both compounds can leak out and mix, sticking the cap on permanently and leaving a solid plug inside both syringes. It also makes a hell of a mess underneath whatever it was sitting on, as un-mixed gooey stuff drips out underneath it.

I have a pack I've been using for more than a year that has stayed perfectly usable, after learning to keep it upright.

Helps if you always draw back a little on the syringe when you have finished. That extra pressure seems to stop thst happening.

      • +1

That's a good call, but I have tried drawing back on the syringe to relieve pressure only to find the tubes still leaked over time. It'll definitely help if you're carrying the syringe around in a toolbox temporarily, but if you're storing it for months don't store it tip-down on your workbench. For me, storing them facing upright has been the only sure-fire way of stopping the leaks.

        • Although I cannot be certain and not had any difficulties I think mine have always been stored horizontal … in a drawer, and no leaks (so far). I have always used them to the very last drop. Unlike those super(supa) glues that always firmly stick those lids on or dry out. Ha!

Same here, I've never had any leaks stored horizontal in a drawer. I think from memory I might have had to cut the nozzle a bit for the cap to snap on properly though.
