    3months warranty

most are is as new condition as they where only used briefly.

If that's true why are you only guaranteeing they'll work for 12 weeks?

    • Simply because we have offered them out as such a huge discount, these have a 500GB HDD on board which go for $70 - $90 on their own. There is an option when purchasing to double the warranty for $35.. With these if there is a problem with them out of the box it will usually fail in the first few week in any case

        Poor

Should be 12 months with a option for more

these have a 500GB HDD on board which go for $70 - $90 on their own.

        I call bullsh*t good sir.

3 years ago your statement may have been valid. Today that's the going rate on a 1TB and even over $70 is a little pricey for a 1TB internal. Nobody buys sub-terabyte capacities these days unless they're in 2.5" external form factors.

Unless these Beyonwiz's are sporting some 10,000 RPM WD Velociraptors by some miracle, the value of the internal HDD which will most likely be an ancient Western Digital WD5000AVJB (first released in 2007; runs on the ancient IDE Ultra ATA100 interface) is a totally moot selling point.

In fact it's a reason against buying it in my book, with such a decrepit HDD inside of it. I would replace that ASAP if I owned one of these.

Because that's about how long a Beyonwiz power supply lasts! I've got three of the buggers, 2 dead, 1 dying. DP-P2 and DP-P1 are nice PVRs, this post doesn't explicitly say which model is on offer though.

      • OK, this deal is for the DP-Lite.

      • Beyonwiz DP-Lite i, is the Model being sold Judging by there website. Still Any Good in your View?

        • +2

Yes, very much so. They're a very good PVR. I don't really understand what the model differences are, they all seem to be very similar, analog input on the P2 that the others don't have (and I've never used) and otherwise, the, differences are pretty subtle. They play nicely with IceTV and there's a bunch of apps for various os (I've only bothered with the Linux ones) that will talk (slowly) to them via Ethernet & copy files back and forth, etc. The Ethernet is very slow, file copying is while-you-sleep, not while-you-wait. They're brilliant boxes in just about every respect. The power supplies WILL fail after about 5-6 years, there's a guy in Perth who will fix them for you, or tell you how to do it.

We have had two DP-P1s in our family. Both still have the original power supplies working well.

        What is a DP-Lite compared to a DP-P1?

        • The look and feel of the user interface will be the same. The litei does not have the front display or front USB and card slots, it has USB on the back though.

    What was the defect/s?

    • No defects, all in working order. May be some small scratches and cartons may have some wear but other than that they are in very good nik!

      • I think you missed my question; as these are stated refurbished, what was the refurbishment? ie. was it a known defect like a bad batch of PSU's, was it a replaceable component or did it require PCB solder work?

To me refurbished is only as good as the warranty backing it and if that is only 3 months then the issue had better be a simple one.

        • +1

Tbh 75% of these have had nothing ever wrong with them, retailers where given a 30day credit on any returns so if a customer brought one back they would just exchange it without testing, some even just swapped out faulty remotes and send back brand new units.. If they did have a fault it may have been hard drive which we just replace or some caps we repair at board level..

  • is there a coupon code? registering as $173.95 ??? + postage ….link is incorrect

    should be

    http://beyonwiz.com.au/shop/index.php?route=product/category…

    • No Coupon code required, you must have added on an additional item, clear your shopping cart and start again.

  • Would Statutory Warranty apply here?

    • Nope. Item is sold as refurbished, you're made properly aware of that before you buy. The statutory warranty provisions you're hoping to rely on do not apply in this case.

Where were these sort of deals 5,6,7,8 or so years ago when I wanted a Bey? Had to go for a Toppy back then and subsequently have Tivos now!

    • What happened to TiVo?

      • As far as I'm aware the company (Hybrid) pretty much went under! There must still be just a handful of people left with them as you will get a response from the tech dept and the programming guide is still updated!
Pity, because it's actually a great unit and had a lot of potential. They fudged it a bit with one of the updates that took out it's streaming capability in Oz though!

I'd never buy a Beyonwiz again. Mine couldn't fast forward or rewind accurately (e.g. press play and it jumps forward by a minute), had audio dropouts and would randomly corrupt saved files. Terrible user interface also.

Bought a Panasonic DMR220 and have been very happy with it.

For $145 I'd buy a cheap and cheerful eBay unit.

    • Skip functions are much more accurate and you can program them to your liking.

    • +1

Did you try to upgrade to the latest firmware?

      • +1

Yep. Latest firmware, formatted HD, rescanned channels many, many times. Even checked for bulging capacitors once I'd decided to get rid of it.

  • +1

I've had mine since 2009 and still going strong! dp-lite

    • Ditto - had my refurb since 2011 and faultless. No buttons / display means the remote is mandatory, dont lose it.
USB in the back is a minor inconvenience.
Copied lots of footy and kids dancing practice from PC onto separate HDD via USB and the library is always accessible.
Does this come with the free programming subscription as well ?

  • Have the DP-P2 and yes the power supply failed once in 5 years. Fixed in Melbourne for $50. Such a great unit. Tempted for the family.
Can you put the firmware off the P2 on it to fast forward ads?

    • It will operate the same as your P2, skipping ads is exactly the same :)

  • +2

Also, I found the Beyonwiz user interface one of the easiest to understand for non-tech people. I have recommended to a few people and, with some initial hand-holding, they find the units easy to use. Instant recording of programs, scheduling of recording, playback, etc. all handled with ease. We are talking senior citizens too.

SWMBO hogs the remote control of our DP-P2 but I don't complain :)

  • I have a Topfield 7160 and love it. A bit temperamental at times and the remote is rubbish.

Fixed the remote issue with a universal unit.

Back USB is easily fixed with a $3 USB extension:
    http://www.msy.com.au/pc-accessories/10293-cablelist-cl-u3am…

Could be <$3 if you can get a USB 2.0 as none of these PVR units work off USB 3.0 yet.

  • Still tossing up pulling the trigger and buying a T3, my DP-P2 is slowly dying (overheating and freezing during recordings), it has had a good run, would be well over 6 years worth now.

Any chance of a good deal coming up for the T3 rep?

  • Just got rid of ours (or at least the DP-P2) - the kids broke the front USB input (didn't know about the back one - lol) Worked flawlessly for the few years we had it. If you have a need for something like this, I personally thought they were great units.

Simply don't have anything on FTA we want to record - or even watch - anymore. Ripped the 500Gb HDD drive out, sent the rest to the tip

Hmm, in theory I could hook this up to that Benq W1070 projector and wouldn't need a TV at all, correct? Just feed aerial into this and HDMI into the Benq?

    • Yep that's correct :)

  • had the lite since 2009. would recommend at this price.
it is showing its age now with new codecs especially MKV, it is quite fussy about sound encoding and sometimes plays video at double speed. skipping forward during some videos makes the unit lock up, so I use the FFWD as a workaround.
my model has had failed HDD due to heat and no internal fan, this is the same for virtually any PVR on the market.
when i replaced the drive i installed a computer fan so hopefully the power supply doesnt fail like others have reported with the extra cooling in my tight entertainment unit.

  • What with the remotes? I have had 2 units and both remotes stopped for no reason whatsoever. Working, then not. Looked after well. Ended up having to use a universal remote control which isn't as convenient.

  • Purchased this deal, refurbed unit was DOA.

    Sweet……
