Is DWI so much worse than Kogan ?

Hi, everyone.
I am just looking at these two deals :

https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/146624
Canon EF 24-105 F/4L IS USM Lens - $667 Free Shipping @ DWI
Rating : +4

https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/130556
Canon EF 24-105 F/4L IS USM Lens - $669 Free Shipping @ Kogan
Rating : +23

I can see that people's opinion is in favour of Kogan.
Personally, I got stuff from both of them and I was equally happy with both of them as well.
Does anyone know something that I do not know about DWI ?

  • PS I am seriously thinking about purchasing

    http://www.dwidigitalcameras.com.au/astore/Tamron-SP-AF90mm-…
Tamron SP AF90mm F/2.8 Di Macro 1:1 Lenses
    A$319.00

but a bit concerned in regards to seller's reputation, etc.

    • OP, just FYI there is a new version of that lens out.

just in case you didn't know.

I guess looking at the two deals above (one of them is mine \o/), back in Jan, i think that could be the first time the lens has reached that low price, whereas in may, you'd expect the price of the lens to fall even further. I think the currency is around the same during these two periods.

It also depends what time the deal is posted.

I bought this exact lens from DWI about 4 years ago and had no issue with the purchase, though having bought other items from Kogan, I feel they are a tad more professional.

Two major red flags came up with DWI. First, they declared a customs value well below what I actually paid for my EF 24-105 F4L. This might have been a good thing for GST declarations on import but is absolute hell if you need to claim on insurance, not to mention that the fraudulent invoices limited how much I would have been able to deduct should I have gone down that avenue.

Second, I use a one-off email address per website (I own my own domain name and [email protected] gets picked up by a wildcard policy). A few months post purchase, [email protected] started getting a ton of Paypal phishing emails and other spam. They don't seem to be able to keep customer records secure, and this email address (along with Adobe, and I soon suspect Ebay) is one of the major contributors to my spam training folder.

Neither of these is necessarily a bad thing for consumers if they know how to mitigate, but they are still major red flags.

  • I am interested in this too. I am looking at a Canon 28mm f/1.8 for $475 from DWI. Its $513 from Kogan but i would prefer to buy locally if anyone has any tips.
