  • mention 7.8" screen in title ?
    specs http://www.acer.com.au/ac/en/AU/content/series/iconiaa1

    • 7.9"

  • My wife has one of these - a good compomise between the compactness of a 7" and the 4:3 ratio and size of a 10.1". It fits nicely in her handbag and it does everything she needs it to.

Want to add plus delivery for interstate folks? Show as $5 for delivery on mine. But nevertheless, cheaper than Dicksmith for sure.

  • +2

Cheaper than most unknown Chinese branded tablets.

  • +1

Great little Tabs IMO. My wife and I have the previous model (A1-810) purchased for $99 last year and although only used for casual web browsing, music & movies & simple games they've been great so this later model should be just as good. Not quite as slick as some others but for $70 (after cashback) these would be excellent value.

  • what are they like for reading? anyone?

    • +2

Fine but a Kindle will always win for those big reads.

  • Wow. This is already cheap even before the cash back.

Edit: A Kit Kat update is being worked on according to this post a week ago by an Acer Technician.

I've confirmed with the US team that the Android 4.4 (Kit Kat) update is being worked on and will be released as an over the air update for the A1-830. While I don't have an ETA to provide, I will provide additional information when it comes available.

    • FUUUU I need one. Was gonna throw Xubuntu or something on it but KitKat would be great.

    • Looks like Kit Kat will even arrive for the older model Acer ( although quad core ) to this tab, the A-810. No doubt with a longer wait, but coming all the same. Good news for both.

  • +2

Atom Z2xxx series no good but for $70 better than no name brand.

Is it possible to,put Windows 8 on even only 16GB?

    • +1

Yeah the Z2560 is pretty dated now being released ~2 years ago, but it should cope with most things well enough.

It's actually the same CPU as in the recent 10.1" Memo Pad deal from Myer and everyone seemed to be happy with that so should be a great tablet for the price.

    • +1

Actually its pretty good. Its a hyperthreaded dual core.

I wonder how Ubuntu's UNITY interface would run…. Its the perfect touch screen OS.

And yes, if you nLite a windows install I'm sure you could get win8 on it

That is, if you can get to the boot loader.

  • The Bing Lee part no. does not match any cash back part no.?

  • Does this have USB OTG ? Will it have it with a software update?

  • +1

Availabe at Officeworks too (for pricematch) http://www.officeworks.com.au/shop/officeworks/acer-iconia-a…

    • Can we price match from WA stores?

  • Apparently it's $100 at Kmart as well. Thanks OP!

  • out of stock

  • got 1 thanks

    • +1

Good deal hey, maybe you could + to say thanks.

  • In US, ACER just dropped the price of this tablet to $100

    http://www.technologytell.com/gadgets/147366/deal-alert-8-in…

  • Still in stock in some stores. Well, my local store has a few anyway.

  • +3

Sadly Acer is refusing to release a tool to unlock bootloaders.

So basically you are STUCK with android and their version of android. Don't even think about using any custom firmwares or installing windows on it.

  • Thanks Op. I just bought one from haymarket. Winning!!!

  • Awesome. Just picked one up and paid with ING for the 5% rebate.

How is this for warranty? Is it valid overseas? Thinking of giving this to family overseas who are not as fortunate as us here.

    • where did you pick it up? online support just told me sold out in all stores..

  • +1

I just price matched one in Officeworks Tuggeranong(ACT) for $94.05. This was after the binglee website showed out of stock.

  • +1

It shows as IN STOCK in binglee site now.

    • Its comming in and out of stock. I'm guessing they just located another pallet somewhere…..

      • +1

Or people's carts are expiring after deciding not to purchase.

  • +1

Price beat from officeworks fairy medow at $94.05… Thankss :)

  • Harvey Norman got it?

  • +1

Bought the last one at Bing Lee Blacktown store. Just remind those who bought must claim the cashback by 30 June (next Monday), and the barcode sticker is really really hard to peel off from the box!!

    • +1

I just use a stanley knife and cut around the barcode and send it in with the carboard attached.

      • I want to keep the box unbroken, ha ha :)

    • +5

I rang Acer and asked them about the 30/6 deadline. The girl told me that 30/6 would be the last date on your purchase invoice and we can have upto 14 days to submit the claim.

      • thanks. great information here

OW north sydney not price matching

    • +1

OW at Hunter Street, Sydney not price matching as well

  • would OW price match not in stock item?

    • no, unless they call Binglee to find out. I just tried to price match on the phone Rusell st QV store MELB. Good luck

  • +1

saw this tab at JB, very nice looking

    • +2

I have the A1-810.. it actually locked up recently and I sent it back and they "fixed" it or maybe just took out the battery.. besides this glitch I have been very impressed with it.. I have played around with ipads over the years, and for every day use, I am sure the 830 is even better (better than the A1-810)..

      • Hear hear! Great little units for sure.

  • Agh missed it

    • +1

missed it by that much! (me to)

  • called office-work and he said cant get cash back from them as they are not participating in it.

    • lol. poor people who bought it at OW…..

      • +1

Lies. No mention of participating stores on cashback link.

        • Can someone please confirm this ?

        • I spoke to ACER before I placed my order at officeworks (phone), the lady said to me that as long as the SDK code is same, does not matter where you buy from, it will be eligible for Cash back of $29

          The SDK Code is NT.L3WSA.001

        • The one I bought from OW has the same code.

    • I did apply for the cash back and received a confirmation email. Nowhere they mentioned participating stores in their promo.

      • Nowhere they mentioned participating stores in their promo.

        Absolutely correct !!!

  • Thanks OP. Great deal! Picked one up from Officeworks Clarence St Syd just before 12pm

    • Did you try to apply for cash back?

      • Yep made claim online about 10 minutes ago

  • Went to pick up mine at Haymarket store, just to find out they don't have a stock in the store. In fact, the staff said no Bing Lee store has it in stock. Bing Lee is putting them as back order. The staff at the head office said they will let us know when the items arrive :(

The head office staff also misled me by advising that I can still lodge the cash back without serial number (SNID). Well, that's a big lie!

    • I also called before go to the Hornsby store. They said first come first served can't hold any for me, but when I got there all three are order by online!!

    • According to Acer FAQ section, you may be able to lodge the claim without the SNID first but then need to contact them again to supply the SNID once you receive the item.

I called the BINGLEE store in Fyshwick, ACT in the morning and asked them to put 3 units on hold. Just went and pick them up.
Looks very nice with white in the front and aluminum back panel.
    Awesome Deal.
Wish I could put positive votes 3 times…. lol
    Thanks OP :)

  • Anyone able to price match at ow?

    • Unless you find a very lax staff member, they will probably decline your request for price match as it is showing sold out on the binglee site.

  • +1

Here is the trick that might work(I have yet to try).Binglee website has two phots, one with sold out label and one without. show OW staff one wihtout and cross your finger.

    • I did the same thing tonight.

      • No go, the officeworks IT guy in Boxhill had to double check binglee website before price matching :(

  • +2

Thanks OP. Price match at OW worked without any issue. Just showed binglee website on smartphone.

    OW invoice = $94.05 - 5% Me bank cash back = $89.35 - $ 29 = $60.35 = BARGAIN

    Cheers

  • This will be for my son, just to watch kids shows and the like.

Any recommendations/links to durable rubber/silicon case for it to prevent damage from the unavoidable drops to come?

    • Edit: found that the Ipad Mini is very similar dimensions so bought one on ebay for $10. Its a soft rubber case so hopefully it has a little give (mini is 200mm, a1 is 203mm)

      • But this one is thicker.

  • Got 3 from Penrith.

    Thanks OP !

  • Bought one from David Jones price matched.

The guy just call Bing Lee to make sure the price is correct he don't care even they are out of stock.

Originally tried Harvey Norman during lunch no luck and tried JB at night no luck. So I decided to try DJ first before drive to OW.

  • Got the last 2 at Erina NSW

I rang OW Bondi Junction in the morning when there was still in-store availability at Bing Lees. The guy in IT was happy to put one on hold for me and said that I could get price match (seemed to know all about the deal). Unfortunately when I made the trip to pick it up this evening there was no 'record' of this unit having been put aside at the price-match, and the guy I'd spoken with was now off-duty. The manager promised me that he would chat with him the next morning and give me a call. I'll let you know how it goes….

    • meaning, they'll never call u back

      • we'll see. I spend some time and money at OW BJ and they are generally a friendly and helpful crew - tolerant of my ankle biters running around the place with their $2 spending money too.

    • Did he / OW called u yet?

      • NO, they didn't call back yesterday as promised, but when I rang in the afternoon they advised that the sales guy I had spoken to didn't have a shift that day, and he'd call tomorrow.
He just called and told me that the price matching only happens at the time you actually pick the stock up - so even though Bing Lee did have stock when I called and got them to put it on hold for me, after he told me that they would price match, they'd only honor the price match if Bing Lee still had stock when I went to pick it up. Disappointed but hardly news that OW doesn't always honor its promises, and might have been genuine confusion on his or my part. A wasted trip to pick it up which is very annoying and now we know that the Bondi Junction crew are 'unreliable' on this issue.

        • Try David Jones I price matched when Bing Lee was Out of Stock.

        • tried David Jones in Bondi Junction this morning - nice fellow who had already had a couple of shoppers try to price match but wasn't willing to do so because Bing Lee was out of stock. A shame.

    • Must be sulmar he just said bought three.

      • +1

yes most likely him, its just selfishness. They forgot the meaning of OZB to SHARE with everyone

        • I mostly just bought what I want but sometime not really what I needed :p

        • Pretty sure you wouldn't be sharing any and selling them yourself just like everyone else here.

That aint me, but I'd happily do that anyway.

  • Just remind guys to try store like Myer, David Jones, etc. They also do price matching I have quite some stuffs price matched with DJ and they have no problem even though the original store was out of stock.
