Babies Room heater

The winter chill has hit thick and fast here in Perth. I know peoples thoughts on rugging up/more clothes etc etc to keep warm is the best option, which I'm happy with, but this isn't for me. It's for my 9 month old baby.

So far we've been layering on the blankets to cope with the chill. Problem is that it usually doesn't hit the extremes until about 4am so when putting her to sleep at night its usually much warmer. Obviously we can't overheat her so we end up getting up to her in the night layering more on her when the extremes hit.

The alternative is to keep the room at a constant temp via a heater. We have one but it's a few years old now and it clunks and clicks every time it heats up and cools down, again keeping her awake. So we're considering an alternative that isn't so noisy.

So my good friends, I'm seeking advice from anyone who can recommend a good heater that is quiet and, preferably, efficient. Anyone have good experiences with a particular type?

My valued full nights sleep is in jeopardy and am desperately seeking advice…

Thanks in advance.

  • Invest in a reverse cycle system. My eldest son has never slept under a blanket or anything, always kicks it off. Temps always vary throughout the night and you dont want them waking up if its 2 hot or 2 cold. We installed a split system reverse cycle and winter or summer, his room is always a nice consistent temp throughout the night. Its comparably priced to a stand alone heater, super quiet and means you dont have a hot object in the room when ur son starts walking around and gets his big bed. Investments paid off

    • Thanks, we have ducted but its quite a big system and don't need to heat up half the house. Another split system would be a bit crazy just for the time shes little. Thanks anyway for your advice.

      • I had one of those ducted systems before in a previous house, you did either all the bedrooms or none. Wasnt ideal as everyone wanted a different temp or the other rooms were empty. I know its overkill but in my current place I have 4 split systems, 1 of either bedroom and 1 for the living room. Piece of mind and sleep is priceless

We have a 11 fin oil heater in our sons room keep it on low all night and heats his room fine we leave the door open about 35cm

    • What brand do you have? I've read some are rubbish compared to others.

we have a 8 month old and we use a small 6 or 7 fin oil heater.

the timer is set to switch on for 2 hours and then off for half an hour through the night… it is also set on low to keep a nice even temp.

we put heavy curtains on the windows and sliding door where most of the cold air is coming through.
and the door slightly ajar to allow for ventilation.

if you can have half a bucket of water in the corner of the room where you are not going to knock it over allows some moisture in the air… heaters tend to dry out the air.

  • Ours is target modern living had it about 5 years no issues on almost every night this time of year
