Quanum DIY FPV Goggles (AU$31.79 + Delivery)

110

These sold out faster than a <$200 Wii U at Kmart and now they are back in stock at the same price. I just put in an order and see that people are posting that they are back at hobbyking, so expect them to sell out fast again.

I went with the cheapest delivery option which was ~$10 by registered air mail.

What are they? FPV goggles of course! If you don't know what that is then this bargain most likely isn't for you :) But basically you strap a monitor with a magnifying lens for a wider field of view to your face, and a wireless camera to a radio controller plane so that you can fly it from a cockpit perspective without shrinking yourself to fit in the model. There's no shortage of FPV videos on youtube so if it sounds like something you may enjoy, take a look at some videos about the hobby. But beware, it's a rabbit hole of never ending knowledge that you can and will lose yourself in if you decide to start researching.

Personally I prefer the single larger screen with fresnel lense than my entry level Fatshark goggles and they cost 1/6th the price. My friend went with a DIY option a year ago and I was always jelous of how he managed to get a better product than me by spending a fraction of the money. Now I can do the same. They would make a decent first set of goggles, backup set, or even for a passenger to come along with.

He mistyped "any blue oval" referring to FPV (Ford Performance Vehicles).

Dumb Ford joke. FPV = Ford Performance Vehicle.

If I strapped a camera to my chest, using these Goggles, would I be able to see where I was going ?

    • Hahaha !

    • Putting the camera on your back would be more entertaining.

  • Thanks OP, bought one!
Don't mind the low res, going to trial one of these against my current 7" flight screen and maybe just run both so people can follow along
