Tenso is doing a 3000yen free shipping on Rakuten if you purchase over 10,000yen ($100) from a single store on Rakuten.

Basically sign up for Tenso, then buy those 2 headphones/earphones which will come upto 10368yen.
Then Tenso will send you a coupon, and it will basically negate the shipping costs for it being shipped to Australia.

The Creative Aurvana Live! 2 by itself costs over $119 excluding shipping from Creative Shop.
Creative Aurvana in-Ear2 costs around $70 excluding shipping from Creative Shop.

  • So complex process.. needs mail forwarder. Could you talk a little about the quality of the product itself?

    • They are rated the best sounding headphones under $150. Look up headfi for reviews.

      • I've got them and they are great. The remote and mic work well with my Nexus 5 and Google Now. I bought direct from the website which I think is the way to go. Very comfortable and great sounding circumaural headphones. I got them for $106 delivered at the time of purchase.

      • Thats a big claim, sites like Head-Fi contain thousands of options, I own about 50 in including the CAL (not CAL2) and have heard good things, but not at this price…

I still think the UE6000 are a great buy at $90 or below, but thats my sound preference.

        • Hmmm, at $70 delivered that is not a good price for CAL2?
I'm saying that you get BOTH earphone and headphones for $110.

If you are looking for the CAL2 just buy it, then either pawn off the Earphones for $50 or just put it in the xmas stocking. lol.

      • Can I expect active noise canceling at this price?

        • Lol good sound and noise cancelling don't go together.

Noise cancelling causes loss of detail.

So you need to decide on what you want, noise cancelling or good audio. If you want good audio then CAL2 is a good choice.

However if you want noise cancelling then you will need to choose another pair of headphones.

        • @lplau: Got any recommendations for noise cancelling, other than BOSE?

        • @lostn:
Firstly, you need to understand with the current tech, noise cancelling means cancelling continuous patterned noises, such as engine nose on a airplane.

Do not expect it to chime out a baby crying, as it will NOT do this.
Bose can do some of the "variable" noises, however it is not perfect and don't expect too much.

Anyways now that you understand what the limitations are, these are the recommendations:
          1. Bose - They are the most advanced, but some people hate the sound signature as it is quote "manufactured".
          2. Audio Technica ATH-ANC9 - Quite good, also very well reviewed on the web.
          3. Sony MDR-10RNC or MDR-1RNCMK2 - Pretty good sound, and highly rated on web.

Audio Technica and Sony ones are reasonably cheap if you get them overseas, you will pay almost 2-3x the price if you try to buy them domestically.

        • @lplau: Yes I'm quite aware of that. I own a pair of Bose QC20 myself. I know how its noise canceling works. It's very good.

Looking for an over ear noise canceler, hoping to not pay as much as a QC15 (which is the same price as a QC20).

I have some Sony in ears as well. Their NC is bad. Really bad. But the price is a lot cheaper than Bose. I'm hoping for something that's reasonably cheap but comes close to what Bose does, in other words much better value than Bose.

The Audio Technica ATH-ANC9 prices at 44% off on Amazon are not that much cheaper than the Bose with no discount.. hmm. It's still about $100 off. I'll have to look into how it compares. There's no way I would buy it over a QC15 if it wasn't on special though.

    • I bought CAL2 for 106 delivered, sound is great, comfortable to use, but I prefer m50 sound signature and build quality. I use these with an input splitter for microphone use in skype and games, no complaints for 106 dollars.

  • Keep in mind that because you're using a freight forwarder, warranty is going to be difficult. And you have to deal with Japan so communications issues arise. Since Japan wasn't willing to ship to your address to begin with, will they be willing to ship the replacement to you if you need RMA? Or will that have to go through the freight forwarder as well?

    • I never assume I have warranty when I'm buying online from overseas.

It all depends on the likelihood of it breaking, imo with headphones it is reasonably low. And If you use the deal above, you can pretty much get 2 of them for the price that Australia sells them for. So basically you are still ahead.

People fork out like $300 on Amazon for a Robot Vacuum Cleaner which most likely doesn't have warranty, same with people who fork out $800+ on amps from overseas because they are like double the price in Australia.

At $106 as described by others in the post, it may not be as profitable as its only around $30 cheaper than Australia.

Good thing with buying from Japan would be they don't usually rip people off so DOA isn't as high on the list as with sellers from China. So less worry there.

      • DOA happens regardless. Doesn't matter who is selling them. Unless the store is testing them before selling them.

If it's a big saving and you're prepared to accept no warranty, it's not an issue.

In general though, like you, I'd have to be careful about what kind of products I buy from overseas, especially that require a forwarder.
