CUA NFC Mobile Payment

CUA just announced their new app which allows users to pay at Visa PayWave terminals using any Android 4.4 Kitkat phone with NFC. Hence I am thinking of getting a debit card from CUA to use this function.

Has anybody used CUA and is it any good? And would you move to CUA from your current bank to use NFC payment?

  • No, I wouldnt move to a phone NFC setup for a few reasons:

    1. Don't particularly trust it yet - let the bugs be ironed out by others.
    2. Only for paywave transactions - still need to carry a card for larger transactions which negates the benefit of not having to carry a card in the first place.
  • ROFL, credit union. Look at the fee schedule, that will change your mind.

    • What fee schedule? There are virtually no fees with CUA. Try again…

I like CUA. Been with them for ages. Good service. Good security. I am happy.

  • I have a mini paywave card which I have under my phone from CBA, works like a charm. Try the NFC, you can't go wrong with a big bank.

I love that it works with any NFC-capable Android phone. CBA still only allows their NFC payments on the S3 and S4, others need to purchase an NFC card. Hope CBA follows CUA's lead!

  • CUA is pretty good. You can use a Visa Debit card effectively paypass is the same as pressing Credit. This means no fees.

Furthermore, if you have a large sum of money at CUA. You get lots of free transactions.

Effectively, if you are relatively wealthy, you are probably better off at CUA. I see lots of older wealthy retirees with millions in their account walking through CUA. I helped one of the pensioners walking out the door who dropped their statement. This is just from my own experience.

I myself have an account at CUA and a large sum of money deposited.

    • CUA have been great for many years, and are very reliable and customer-oriented. I've been very happy with their service over the past 20-odd years.

Unfortunately, a lot of people seem to be finding the NFC Paywave app to be unstable, myself included. I hope they get the bugs ironed out though, because paying with your phone is very convenient and massively cool.
