I believe Matias claims their switches to be the quietest in mechanical switches. So it is meant to be like using a normal (rubber dome) keyboard, but you get the great feel of mechanical. They are wireless and last 6-12 months on a SINGLE charge.

Both work on PC or Mac. Secure Pro has PC keys, Laptop Pro has Mac keys. Apparently they are bringing out separate keys you could interchange for purchase sometime soon.

Before Apple inflicted chiclet keys on keyboard users, they were apparently well regarded for making the Apple Extended Keyboard II (many regard it as the best keyboard they ever made).

Whilst Cherry switches in mechanical keyboards are all the rage these days in the mechanical resurgence, the Apple Extended II and other keyboards used ALPS switches (no Apple didn't invent these).

Long story short, the ALPS patent holder could make more money in other industries and Matias took the ALPS design and spent 2 years trying to improve it. You may, or may not like it.

Note: people talk about a wobble on the ALPS switches compared to other designs. Matias himself says the following:
Edgar Matias: it prevents them from catching if you press the key off-centre
Edgar Matias: wobble is your friend
See here for the above quote and a great background on these keyboards:

Also a note on the feel compared to Cherry:
"The Matias switch has an activation right at the start of the key (and not at the middle like Cherry MX or at the end like membrane) and a very, very, very well defined tactile feedback. The Cherry MX Brown's "bump" isn't felt most of the times, reason why the key is a lot similar to Cherry MX Red, but on the Matias Quiet switch it's impossible not to feel the tactile bump. Hell, the tactile feedback can be even felt on the upstroke (the process of removing your finger from a key you pressed and it returning to its original state).

After pressing the key and going through the tactile bump, the resistance which existed earlier disappears, the only remaining resistance comes from the switch's spring, which isn't much and didn't make my fingers hurt after long sessions of FPS games, something that happens when I play using keyboards with Cherry MX Black."

Bluetooth is apparently quite easy to hack, so the Laptop Pro is a bit of a security risk, but it works with phones and tablets that support Bluetooth. Since some departments and companies ban Bluetooth due to the poor security, the Secure Pro version uses 128 bit AES encryption and uses a tiny little USB receiver. This is claimed to be much more secure.

Note: some wired keyboards can apparently be snooped on from a distance as well.

Matias also make wired and loud clicky switches as well, but they are not available in this deal.

Note: the USB ports on the keyboard are for charging only.

Note: The plastic is gloss black (Secure Pro) and Silver (Laptop Pro). Some people say this keyboard looks cheap (funny given Mac users are a big market for Matias), but the plastic used is Polycarbonate (for example, used in motorbike helmets) and not ABS like used in most keyboards. So it looks cheap, but apparently this is significantly more expensive to use. One guy got sick of the gloss and fingerprints and painted his Matias keyboard matt black though (also shown in the above review).

Note: I have never used this keyboard ;)

Note: It sounds like MassDrop can take a month to ship to Australia, so don't get this deal if you are in a hurry or impatient.
