  • Please fix your links. However, some manual searching shows there are some very good deals to be had.

  • Seriously bring some good deals, i have about $400 gift voucher that sitting around for almost a year cause there is nothing worth buying, original brought it to buy sigma 18-35mm since you had the best price. Since then its super expensive compare to others, end up getting it at JB for $699

  • No bargain, thanks.

  • Now all the above links go to the same page.

  • Please see the links for the manufacturers at the side of the page

    thanks

    Here comes the tricky part

they have 2 kinds of warranty:

    1. Manufacturer
    2. CamerasDirect

I guess 2. means grey import (which is fine, because they are usually a lot cheaper)

Thing is, how do i know the item that i am interested is AU stock or imported stock? i tried to look through the page but i cant find it anywhere…. please advice.

The 'Canon 7D body' says "To satisfy Australian Electrical Safety regulations, you may be supplied with a compatible, fully Australian compliant charger" - suggesting grey import.

Edit: Just spoke with Live Chat, it IS grey import.

As a grey import, CamerasDirect's Spot Deal price of $1,023.00 is off the mark compared to competitors, from eGlobal's $827 to Kogan's $919. You can even get Australian stock cheaper, Ryda Dot Com do it for $989.

      • or http://camerasdirect.com.hk/index.php/catalogsearch/result/?…

Without getting toooooo deep into tin tacks - grey import is a term invented by those that dont think you should get a better price and it means no aust warranty

as an aussie resident company you get by law from us an aussie warranty as if it was from the original manufacturer

this applies whether you buy from our .com.au or .com.hk site

remember .com.hk means that YOU are the importer ..

        cheers
        M

        • "Grey import" is a common term for goods sold outside a manufacturer-authorised distribution channel. It wasn't invented by anti-'parallel import' activists.

It's important for consumers to know if the product will be locally supported by the manufacturer, or where they have to ship it in the event of a warranty claim.

Your Warranty page states that your products are:

…covered by an Australian Warranty. This can be either the Manufacturers warranty or a CamerasDirect Warranty depending on the products origin. Please check the product title and description to be sure which applies.

However on your Canon 7D body product page, neither the product title or description states which warranty applies.

A HK-stock Canon 7D with retailer local warranty isn't the same as an AU-stock Canon 7D with manufacturer local warranty - not to suggest it's worse, but it does have different after-sales support.

Picking on your Canon 7D body, to me the local product is the better buy:

Grey import: Canon 7D body with 1 year CamerasDirect local warranty
          CamerasDirect Spot Deal: AU$1,023

          vs

Aus stock: Canon 7D body with 2 year Canon Australia local warranty
Ryda Dot Com regular price: AU$989

Perhaps other Spot Deals do offer a bargain - the Zeiss Distagon T* 28mm f/2 ZE price looked pretty good.

    • and to make it even more confusing, on some products we offer both = sigma for example - we offer the kennedy imported product or the exact same lens that we imported ourselves

or you can throw in a 3rd option and import it yourself from our www.camerasdirect.com.hk site …

now who else offers all those options ?

    • dont post it twice !

  • @thrift worth remembering that camerasdirect has been importing since 2003. We've figured it out.

  • Not bad. I needed a 55mm UV filter and your Hoya one for under $20 is a good price for a higher quality filter.

But you guys need to do another 'Buy two CamerasDirect items and receive 50% off those items' deal again.
