Moving to Apartment with no copper wire (according to Telstra) - Help needed to choose ISP and Internet type

I am moving to new Apartment on Thursday which has phone port(606 telephone plug) but Telstra and other ISP(EXETEL) are saying you don't have copper wire at my apartment so I have to pay 299$ to get active telephone line.
Can I get my landlord to pay $299(as it is one time charge and it will help future tenants) ???

  1. ADSL2+ plan I am aiming at is 50$ per month with telephone rental from Exetel
so 50$ per month + 299$ activation charge + $99 broadband activation fees.
  2. Telstra also offered me cable connection but
it's 99$ per month (without telephone setup) + 144$ cable modem + $192 if technician needs to come

both have contracts (12 and 24 months), so I want to be very careful before getting into any

so please give your valuable advice guys…

  • check out naked broadband from iinet

    • I told them same . but Exetel told me that I need active telephone line at least(to get internet connection)

  • also telstra no longer roll out copper - check the apartment - there maybe provisions for digital or NBN or something else… but don't pay for your landlords stuff and the landlord won't pay either… also go ask your neighbours what they have ….

    • +1

Telstra told me that few other Tenants around me(same street address different Unit) are using Telstra cable so it would be easy for them to provide Cable internet.
although I will go ask neighbors what they have
