Accidently bricked my Huawei G526!

UPDATE 22/08/2014

Thank you hj0809 and outlander for the files.

Sadly my Huawei G526 doesn't allow me to push those files into the system for some reason. I do have root access when using "adb shell su", but "adb root" and "adb remount" just won't work on this device.

For those who wonder why I don't just flash stock rom like any other phone, Huawei decided not to make the original firmware available to download, so that is why. :(

I have returned it to the store this morning and lodged a repair. Hopefully I can get it fix.

Now SirNed is asking if anyone know where he can get new glass + digitiser for a G526?

Original Post

Dear all proud owner of the Huawei G526 (rooted),

I need your help!

I accidently bricked my huawei g526 by using the "font installer" from "Rom Toolbox", which I really shouldn't have, a quick Google search revealed that there are many other people experiencing the same issue as well.

So I decided to wiped the user data and cache in the stock recovery (power and volume up), in the hope of fixing the problem. But instead, I ended up deleting the backup of the original system fonts created by "Rom Toolbox" in the sdcard…

Now my G526 is nothing but an expensive paperweight. :(

Does any kind OzBargainer has a working rooted Huawei G526 willing to copy their G526's original system fonts from "/system/fonts" and send it to me? I still have access my phone's file system through ADB on my computer, and able to push the correct files back to my system.

Thanks in advance! Cheers! :)

I can't help you, mate, but thanks for the username-related laugh!

      I somehow saw this coming… :P

      • Are you sorted now for the fonts or still need them?

Get the fonts from AOSP/any reputable github repo

  • never had a Huawei device, but why don't you flash the factory image/software?

    • That is what I would like to do as well, but Huawei G526 is an exception… The manufacture did not made the stock rom available to the public, so there is barely any rom development on this model.

That is probably the only thing I dislike about this phone. Otherwise, the specs are awesome for the price.

  • Sorry to hijack this thread but the battery to my G526 fell under a train and it is proving really difficult to find a replacement as it doesnt seem to be compatible with any other models.

Is anyone able to tell me what code the battery has on it (pictures would be ideal)?

    Thanks !!

      Code on the battery is HB5V1HV 3.8V 2020mAh 7.7Wh(typ)
      Rated capacity 1950mAh 7.5Wh
      GB/T 18287-2000

  • I have the Y300, which looks fairly similar. Could be worth trying

    • Thanks for the upload mate.

Sad news is I could not adb push files in to the system due the permission denied. I do have root access using "adb shell su", but it doesn't help me get your fonts in my phone. Tried Google and read various forum for solution with no luck.

I have return the phone to the store and send it to repair. Might take a few weeks before I can get it back.

  • And too add to the requests anyone know where I can get new glass + digitiser for a G526? Missus just dropped hers and glass is kaput

  • While I do not condone treating devices as disposable, a G526 is so cheap that it would be cheaper just to buy a new one, rather than fix the one you have. My son is having the same dilemma with his Nexus 7; he smashed the screen and it is not worth paying for a replacement.

    • True, but maybe Huawei will fix it for free under warranty. I unrooted it via adb just before sending it off.

There is a stock ROM available for G526-L22 etc from http://www.huaweidevice.com.ve/soporte/descargas

Its from Venezuela but dont be shy about installing it. You can change Language to English once installed. I bricked mine about 5 minutes after getting it home from the first DSE special then spent the next 5 months searching off and on for a fix. Found the above and fixed just fine

    • @menmyepg you are awesome!

  • I stuffed up my G526 while trying to install CWM.

    1. My phone was already rooted (using Kingo app) but when boot my phone into Fastboot (Power + Vol -) I got the message "Bootloader is locked"!

    2. Of course I still tried to flash CWM using Fastboot but it failed with Error: "remote: signature verify fail"

    3. Here starts my stupidity… being overconfident, I tried to run an ulockbootloader.exe file (from my PC and connecting phone via USB) which was actually designed for Huawei Y201 Prod & ICS.

    4. As a result I am now getting a message "recovery image may have an incorrect signature" - although I don't have any recovery image. This message appears everytime I reboot the phone or switch-on the phone from shutdown state.

    5. Luckily the phone boots after this message and everything seems to be working fine…

    6. Tried to restore System data using Titanium Backup Pro but it didn't help.

Question: How can I get rid of this? I don't know how to restore the bootloader (assuming I stuffed up the bootloader). Is there a way I can restore back to factory default without CWM?

Snakebyte from WP Forum was really helpful before and he suggested me to check a thread in XDA but I guess I might try DC Unlocker first before contacting Huawei… found this guide which uses DC Unlocker… but its for Y300 and G510… might try it for G526
