The Sony HDRAS30VPK is a really good little camera. It just has a couple of pain in the ass design flaws. But for a camera that is half the price of a GoPro Black it's not too bad.
Not the best design no tripod mount on the camera you have to insert it on waterproof case.
That's probably the biggest annoyance. You have to buy a skeleton frame if you don't want to use the housing but want a tripod mount.
If you record with the case closed the sound is not that good.
To be fair, that applies to every water-resistant housing.

That's a normal characteristic of any wide angle lens. Go get an action video camera with a normal lens that isn't a wide angle/semi fisheye. Pretty sure there's no such thing though.

I have the original sony action cam. Terrible mounting options. Do yourself a favour a buy a GoPro. Look for a black version if you can. Also, sony action cam is useless underwater due to the curved lens.

They introduced a new range of mounts recently. Looks good now.
The pack above include the LCD housing which has a tripod mount on the bottom.

For $200 more? You also don't get an lcd viewfinder with the gopros. The wifi viewfinder feature on the gopro is very, very laggy compared to the Sony for some reason.
Also, sony action cam is useless underwater due to the curved lens.
You can also buy a flat door if desired.
Sony uses a standard tripod mount. There a worlds of options, just not all Sony branded.
If you want to use GoPro mounts, buy an adapter from ebay for $1.
I'm waiting for a deal to pop up for an SJ4000 / SJCAM often toted as the best alternative to the GoPro at it's price point.
Getting a deal and actually getting the camera are two different things. That was my Tmart experience. 45 days of waiting, then a struggle for refund. Paypal dispute resolved it in the end.
In the end did you purchase one elsewhere? Was thinking of getting one through Foxoffer, Banggood or Tinydeal.
No, bought on of these As30 for $200 on ebay sunday sale from Sony Clearance Store, just without the wifi remote. I just use the Android app to check setup.

I payed 288 on Harvey-Norman and was without a card. I am quite happy with it.
