If you can get into store it is cheaper at digidirect

Good lens as well, sharp and fast focusing on my A7 but you get a dark frame if you try to use the full sensor. Would be great on the a6000/a5000 or any NEX

    • Good info about Digidirect if you have a store near you, otherwise postage is $9.90.
      Either deal is pretty good.

Interestingly Digidirect was a lot more expensive for the 55-210 lens.
I found this for $199 at JB Hi Fi.
      VideoPro has it for $249.
      Digidirect has it for $369

    • Is it worthwhile getting for the A7? Unfortunately Sony don't have a cheap full frame 50mm portrait lens like Canon and Nikon. This is as close as it gets but made for APS-C sensors.

      • I believe you have issue at the corners if used on a full frame, but not sure how bad. Would be worth a google.

      • I've tried it. If you are happy to use the crop mode (10mp) it is fine. But in 24mp full frame mode it doesn't come close to covering the image area. I wish there were some inexpensive options but you have to adapt lenses for that. If you have the LAEA4 then I can tell you that the SAL30M28 works really well and then you can hunt summer old Minolta AF lenses.

  • Saw it yesterday. It's a shame Ebay store does not have this lens.

  • I bought this for $165 on there ebay store before when 20% off. Very happy with it.

  • With the dollar going below 90 cents today, i am not sure how long Australia will have prices cheaper than the US.

  • Waiting for the 35mm 1.8 emount (effectively approx. 50mm on full frame) to get to $199.

  • Hi, I have a alpha 77 and wonder what is a good value portrait lens and macro lens. I have a .sal 18250 lens but am not super impressed. I is a good all rounder but not great at anything. I would welcome your suggestions on good value lens options. Will this lens fit?

    • If you want to get both portrait + macro then I would be suggesting the Tamron 90mm f/2.8 Macro. The lens in this deal is for the E-mount cameras (NEX) and will not fit on you A77.

      I would also suggest
      -SAL8528 85mm f/2.8 SAM - inexpensive portrait lens
-SAL5018 DT50mm f/1.8 SAM - the A-mount equivalent of this lens, not a portrait lens in my opinion but many people use it this way
-SAL100M28 100mm f/2.8 Macro - Sony's equivalent to the Tamron 90mm, expensive unless you find it on sale, but the Tamron is much better value and many would argue better quality
-SAL50M28 50mm f/2.8 Macro - a good general purpose lens, will do proper macro and some people will argue it is also a portrait lens (I don't believe so)

  • Got this lens for $199 at Camera House. They do negotiate on price.
