  • Edit: Nevermind

  • "20% off iTunes Gift Cards" I'm gonna get me that new U2 Album!
I work near Garden City so go there weekly, it's about time the construction inconveniences start to pay off and things open. It's looking like it'll now rival Carindale/Chermside

  • Have they expanded it or just refurbished?

    • they expanded. And based on the news it is going to be the biggest in brisbane.

    • Expanded by about 40,000sqm to about 140,000sqm total. Some existing areas such as the upper level foodcourt seem to have been refurbished also. Town Square area has had a face lift and extension also.

      • Great news. Moved to Eight Mile Plains in july this year. Been looking forward to this.

      • But from what I've experienced they haven't added enough/more parking!

        • They lost a number of spaces to the extensions, but the extensions include new multi-level car parks, so with these in operation there is/will be a net gain. With the commuters/all day parkers gone due to the paid parking, and the new parking guidance system in place, it should be easier to find a space. Having said that, all these new shops would presumably bring more shoppers, so…

        • @quop:
Parking guidance system etc has been in use for a while at Westfield Carindale. Often malfunctioning, with a few cars racing to green light of vacant space, to find it filled:-(

Parking at Carindale was easy today - I expect most have gone to Garden City opening, with 'pool boys' to serve you around the tiny resort pool at Town Square.

  • They're finished? Last I looked they had a lot of fit out to do. Our only some shops opening early?

    • +1

…and why was this voted down?

      • +1

        Here you go buddy :)

    • A number of shops spaces are either yet to be filled, or have a tenant but still in the "coming soon" stage.

    • Most of the shops are open already, including Target, Aldi and new Kmart.

A few stores are still under construction. Myer is opening in October.

It's about ~90% open, I'd reckon from my excursion there today.

      • I had a look yesterday and was fairly impressed. I live down the road so happy there's now a Aldi and Target close (although the Mt Gravatt Target was a lot bigger and had more range). KMart shrunk a bit too, the old store was 50% bigger? Maybe it was the lighting, but it felt small.

I would say more like 75% of the new stores were open. A lot on the 2nd floor still under construction and some on the 1st were still shelving stock and closed.

Highlight for me was the Daiso (Y100 shop, but everything $2.80) and the burrito place. $5 burritos! (for a limited time) They had SO many staff working there. I got served straight away, but when I sat down to eat I looked back and there was a HUGE queue.

There's a food court area called "8th Street", but it was still under construction. Looks like an asia food court, maybe trying to replicate a Hong Kong food market. I'm excited to see what it turns out to be like.

        • Kmart have shrunk the categories of stock, so stores are now too big.

Ah Daiso, yes a lot more expensive than 100¥ & missing a lot of the curious things found in their Japanese cousins.

Seems a lot like the revamp of Carindale, which has Daiso, Aldi, Target, etc with HS now being fitted out & Kmart a possibility, but Carindale lacks the pool & pool boys ;-)

      • I'd say there's less that 50% of the expansion shops open. The whole new area is open to walk through. Expect new shops every day for next month.

  • Also Free Tokyo Beef with Rice @FantAsia 11am - 5pm Sat 20/09 - just ignore the negative comments because of a problem in the old Myers Centre food court years ago.

  • Free $10 Target gift card has probably already gone this morning (opened 8am) :-(

  • Forgot they were going to expand, used to live near there before last year.

  • Parking was plentiful in the new area when I went yesterday afternoon. Long queues for the $5 burritos which was a one day only special. Lots more (open) space, plenty of seats, even had a go at a kinect style pinball game on a big screen. Some of the signage is wrong, and mobile reception is poor/non existant in some areas.

    • Good work quop. That must have taken a lot of determination! :) and all handheld using a smartphone? I would have given up by the first week.

    • Do they have free WiFi through the centre like Carindale Westfield? Was there week before opening, so hoping they now have it.

      • Asked today - it's planned for some time in the future. Free WiFi in some stores as before (DJs, OW) and library.

Expect they will improve mobile reception later - it is cavernous.

Myers expected to open 11 October with most other stores aiming to open then.

But there are a lot of blank spaces or pop up shops & car showroom to fill the gaps. Plenty of comfy seating like Carindale redevelopment.

Generous serve of free Tokyo Beef & rice, free drinks & samples at FantAsia. Pedal your own smoothies at Boost around the corner.

Kmart is compact, especially so with so many people & babies.

Plenty of police, but expect that was just for traffic & crowd control.
