eBay Big Sunday (28th Sept) - 20% off The Good Guys Store on eBay

21027
CGOODGUYS20

WARNING
Lots of reports of price hiking prior to the sale, therefore do your research before purchasing. I've seen some decent deals on some items, but others the Not So Good Guys have done the sneaky!

Official Response from The Good Guys:

We definitely do not increase our prices before a sale. We maintain competitive prices that fluctuate with the market. We currently have a sale running from 7pm-7am on certain items, which is why our prices may appear to be increasing during the day.

I've read this entire three page thread and I haven't seen anything, one single item that is legitimately 20% off.

I agree - if you mean buying via one's iPhone eBay app.

I just went to buy - clicked Buy - then there was nowhere for a code. It just took my PayPal payment automatically.

I wrote to the seller asking them to cancel the sale. I am just about to call PayPal.

Meanwhile I went to a PC and purchased again - this time there was the option to input the code.

      • +1

I have been using my desk top pc since 10 a.m. and the code does not work (for me)

      • On the PayPal screen you can add a Gift Card or Coupon code. It goes in there.

In my case, via the iPhone App, there was no PayPal screen.

Via website on a PC, I just entered the code at checkout.

    code not working for anything

  • For those interested in a niche product for their girlfriend - the instacubes work out to be about $85 delivered. Certainly less than the $149 they wanted from the crowd sourcing and the cheapest I've seen them.

    http://stores.ebay.com.au/The-Good-Guys-Australia/_i.html?_n…

yes its an $80 gimmick really with crap resolution and a glorified photo frame but should score some bonus points with the girlfriend ;)

I'm a happy customer. I bought a Breville Food Processor BFP650. RRP $299. TGG's sale price earlier this week $239. TGG's regular price $249. Today with the code it was $199 + $10 postage. $239 was the cheapest I saw it until today.

Now to arrange local store pickup…

    • -1

Will you be able to get the bonus pasta machine?

      • I don't know, I didn't ask. It's a pasta package including the machine retailing for $99, I can't imagine it's very good. I also don't have time to make pasta…

      • Just made a claim for the bonus pasta machine, we'll see how it goes.

  • Got 2x Galaxy Tab S 10.5 for $481 each (delivered). Thanks!

    • +1

hope you bought in two seperate transactions to maximise your savings…

      • Otherwise it wouldn't be $481 each ;)

  • sween64 I tried to replicate your transaction - would not accept code

    • The code worked for me. The first time the transaction didn't work saying the listing had changed between when I added it to my cart and when I went to checkout.

I had no problems the second time around.

  • tempted by a few things but really annoying how they charge shipping for each individual item.

I have wasted enough time on this - I will just go and buy the Kogan Agora 4G phone with LTE for $229. Has Band 700 compatibility!

    • Weird, the code thing appears on my iPad and on desktop no worries. I haven't tried the app, as I don't like it.

Yes. PayPal support said it was because my PP and eBay were linked. They removed the link for me.

TGG phone support were very helpful - it seems that I will get eMail confirmation(s) in an hour or so, and can then contact them (support by eMail), and/or call the supplying store, and cancel my first purchase.

        • Nice result, well done you! Shame about the mucking around in the first instance though.

        • @LaTerrible:

Nice result, well done you! Shame about the mucking around in the first instance though.

          Just to follow up.

I received confirmation emails regarding the two purchases - but I also received a message from TGG support saying that they had contacted the supplying store with an "urgent request" to cancel the first purchase and to "Please allow 1-2 working days for refund to appear back into your account."

Great service from TGG. I have experienced this in the past when one TGG store went out of their way to get stock from another store - even having a friend of the manager pick up the item from one store and bringing it back to the first store. From Tweed Heads to Gold Coast.

There was no 'mucking around'. Just me panicking at the auto-payment, and calling/contacting everyone I could. I should have just contacted TGG Customer Support and left it at that.

I bought this for $124.38 delivered

Nice, but was cheaper elsewhere previously - and there are better Amazon deals occasionally.

      • this is portable not desktop drive. Amazon is not that good at the moment due to our weak currency against USD

Of course I know that - I purchased this drive (in black) previously.

    • Shame. I was looking at getting one. It's interesting that it's still possible to buy one from their own website though.

  • Any idea if masters will price match this promotion and beat it by 10%? DC59 is $499 after 20% is around $400 then masters price beat = $360!

    • +1

I tried to do that during the eBay 15% off, but got rejected both by phone and by online chat…But it doesn't hurt to try though (maybe in store?), you may be luckier. =)

      • +1

when it comes to sales i think Masters will only price match advertised price with the direct store where as this 20% discount is not given direct by the good guys but ebay/paypal. So i doubt they will price match.

  • Any way to get combined shipping? I don't wanna pay 4 shipping fees :(

    • +3

REALLY, Three have been sold for $899 over the last month. Totally over ridiculous claims, ffs it's 20% off and MOST things have not had prices jacked up.

      • -1

Probably a slow learner who still hasn't twigged to the sales paradigms which have already been in vougue for at least 2 years. His other example shows a similar thing. Freight's a killer for some items - eg $5 per cartridge for printer ink.

  • In store pickup not available at my local store; Nunawading 3131.

Good service though, you receive confirmation emails from ebay, PP and TGG. TGG local store then called me to arrange a delivery day (either Tuesday, Thursday or Saturday). I will then receive a phone call on my nominated day between 8:30-9:30am advising me of a 3 hour delivery window.

    • Further to this, I received a phone call at 8:39am this morning and my product was delivered by 9:30am. Fantastic TGG.

  • How do you go about the 120% price matching guarantee? Now if tgg lower their prices back again after sale, surely you can just go and claim back the difference in reduction?

    • I think they would just decline the price match guarantee. As when I read their policy it keeps mentioning "Competitor", which technically speaking wouldn't be TGG, since you cannot be a competitor to yourself. lol.

  • $457.65 for the Dyson DC59 Animal, buy or wait? There's a newer DC59 Motorhead http://www.dyson.com/vacuum-cleaners/cordless/dc59/motorhead…

  • +4

postage is ripoff, wanted to buy small kitchen appliance for $90, but shipping is $20….might just check their local store then….

    • How small? I bought a Breville Food Processor BFP650 which would weigh almost 10kg and postage was only $9.65. I do, however, live in the same suburb as my nearest store.

  • +5

Venting…now some people want something for nothing and delivered free.

Just play the game people, thats what its all about. If its a bargain and you need it buy it, otherwise don't whinge that you can't pick up in store and get a shipping credit, or the price has risen $5 overnight, forgetting your saving up to $100. Geez, 1st world problems.

    • -1

It's one thing to whine like a spoilt brat entirely another to make outrageous, ignorant and patently incorrect claims like one infinitely infantile poster.

    • +1

its cheaper to get instore on the one i wanted to buy….

    • +4

I think a lot of people are whining because the sale is misleading. You think your saving a potential $100, but because of the increases in prices and exorbitant shipping rates , the true savings can be greatly reduced, if in fact there's a saving at all. So they aren't really saving $100! I looked into buying an item during this sale and a quick google search revealed that I'd be a whole $5 better off (or around 1%) using this code on a $450 item than buying from a different retailer without the sale. Now if I can get tgg to price match and get the 20% off, then it will be a good deal.

      • On a roll, why not keep taking the bait. Please substantiate:
        1. The "increase in prices"
        2. The "exorbitant shipping rates"
        3. Your specific example
Noting, that I am sure there would be a lot of online and b&m stores with cheaper prices than TGG, as I said, not what this is about !!!

      • I saved $54/item, across two items. My nearest TGG is some 120km away, so the $5ph is ok and tolerable, though TGG not combining postage is a bummer. But in the grand scheme of things fine.

Basically, this sale is like every other sale that was ever held, where some prices are great, some ok, and some not sale-y at all. Some of The unsubstantiated hyperbole in here though…

      • Most of the "increase in prices" have been shown to be mythical - which particular ones are you referring to?

Agree freight is making SOME items unattractive but it's unrealistic expectations causing most of the whining. No-one is guaranteeing $100 off, nor are TGG suggesting you can't get a better price elsewhere. With a general ebay sale the world is your oyster - with a specific store sale you're stuck with their pricing, which as has been pointed out many times may or may not be the best available.

One thing to remember about TGG, at least in my experience, is that when you go into a b&m store you shouldn't accept the ticketed price. ALWAYS know the market and ask "what's your best price on this?" Make an offer and be prepared to walk away. You might be pleasantly surprised.

  • What do you guys think of this lappy for general surfing and MsOffice? Seems like a good price ($897+$5)

  • I've been looking at getting a Dyson fan… Particularly this one

    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Dyson-301232-01-AM08-White-Silver…

With the 20% off… can anyone comment if this is a good sale price? I won't bother if usually it's cheaper on sale.

Price brings it down to AU $488.65 delivered

    • +2

Dyson astonish me with their prices. $500 for a fan! Seriously?

      • +3

Just the same reason people buy Apple

    • Dyson fans are inefficient and loud. The Blades are concealed and the pressurised air is redirect through narrow vanes. Since the walls of the vanes are static there's a great deal of friction and turbulence. Vortices are prevalent and they act to stifle the flow of air. I don't understand why they persist with such bad and expensive design.

    • Did you end up buying the AM08?

  • Dan forgot my cashrewards. Would have got back $20.

  • Purchased a Miele S8790 for $598.65 delivered.

Great timing considering our old vac died yesterday.

Was going to go a Dyson as always wanted one, but the feedback on the Miele won me over.

    Thanks Ebay.

  • +2

I can confirm that TGG did indeed jack up the shipping price on a Breville toaster grill I was looking at last night. Shipping was originally $9.65 and tonight I checked a minute ago was up to $13.48. I had it added in my cart before the sale and then, inexplicably had gone up by $3.83. If you don't call this blatant greed then I just don't know what is what anymore. I'd think twice about shopping with them on eBay in the future…

    • -2

No I don't call anything "blatant greed" without being in possession of the facts. Ever think that they may have been subsidising freight previously or adding on additional the handling costs I mentioned earlier? There's a simple solution - ask them for an explanation and if you don't like it don't buy. Don't know about you but if I was to send a bulky item via any road freight company I'd be paying a whole lot more than $13.48. They're getting a discount obviously but it's distinctly likely they're also be bearing part of the costs of the promotion.

  • +2

A tip for anyone having issues with delivery on an item - call the store directly rather than go through the eBay channel.

I purchased a washer for my parents and forgot to change the delivery address. The eBay channel told me I'd have to cancel and re-order (and lose the discount), however I called the store directly and they were more than happy to transfer to another store (in another state no less!). Top marks for the store staff!

  • +1

    What a hopeless company.

Ordered a camera during the sale (which was jacked up by $30 5 days before the sale, but still reasonably cheap). My card was debited promptly.

    Call from TGG.
TGG: we don't deliver to parcel lockers
Me: ok fine. I'll pick it up.

    Call from TGG.
TGG: We don't have stock, do you want me to try to find some in other stores?
    ME: yes, please find some.
    TGG: is it urgent?
ME: not super, but i'd like it in 3 weeks as i'm going OS
    TGG: ok

    Call from TGG:
TGG: We don't have stock, olympus doesn't have any either……
    ME: and
TGG: do you want another camera?
ME: not really, I want the one i bought and paid for
TGG: do you want to think about it
    ME: ok

I should have taken the advice from all the other negs, very annoyed. probably wont be able to claim this on TRS now. GRR

Not the stores fault, but seriously, their ebay shop is useless. happy to list products they dont' have, the camera is still for sale on their store! "more than 10 available"

    • -4

      Karma's a beautiful thing.

    • Call TGG (head office):
ME: What's happening with my order number xxxxx, it was sent to a store with no stock. They're saying they can't get any. yet the ebay store still says 10 available
TGG: oh, there is stock at another store, you can purchase it there
      ME: I have purchased it.
TGG: oh, i see, let me xfer you to the store with your order, they can order the stock in.
      ME: ok that's great.
      Xfered….
TGG local store: nah, we don't have any, can't get any, but there is some at another store. Ok, can you get the stock moved. No, you need to call that store
ME: are you serious? Is that how it works?
TGG local store: yeah, i’ll give you the number

TGG store with stock: yeah, we have one in stock, it’s a display model, i’ll knock $30 off the price.

      Call local store again
ME: hello, calling about that order,
TGG local store: ok, let me put you on hold.
      20min pass
TGG local store: Oh, you’re still on the line, you need to call that store and get them to transfer it.
ME: that sounds a bit odd, are you sure that's how it works?
TGG local store: yeah, that's how you've gotta do it

      Call the store with stock
TGG store with stock: No, we can’t transfer it, the requesting store has to do it. it would cost our store $50 to move it. and you'd have to pay full price for the display model.
ME: can you move my order to your store?
TGG store with stock: no, we can’t, you need to sort that out with head office.
ME: they’re idiots, you’re working for idiots
TGG store with stock: tell me about it.

      • lol Sounds like a similar experience I had with tgg 12 months ago. They wonder why less people are shopping from b&m stores, if they offer worse services than online stores, there's no advantage paying more from a b&m.

  • Happy with my Good Guys experience so far. Item delivered this morning. That's fast.

I haven't tried it out yet though- I'm growing whiskers longer to test.

  • +1

Another great shopping experience with TGG and got my product delivered today as yesterday is public holiday in WA. Living in regional city the choice is limited therefore I always check the stock availability at local store, then only order at eBay as I'm sure the head office will allocate the nearest store to deliver my goods.

    • Will post my feedback here. Both of my phones - each from a separate store - arrived today well packaged. Wonderful service.

      Phones are pretty great, too.

  • Happy with my order. Purchased a Gas Cooktop on Sunday. Arrived yesterday (Wednesday) from the nearest Good Guys store with stock. About 85km away on the other side of Sydney.
