$219.58 for me, but still a ripper price. Hopefully delivery is quick!

  • +3

Bought. But shipping fees are nonsense. Store refuses to refund it even though pickup is available.

    • Not only that but if you buy multiple things there is no discount on shipping. I bought two Moto Gs last time which arrived in the same little box yet I got charged $10.36 (2*5.18) shipping from Melbourne to Hobart.

  • Don't forget the 2% cashback at Cashrewards. Every dollar counts!

    • Cashrewards never works for me. Tried it in the 15% off eBay sale the other day, and at the Bonds sale recently too. Balance still $0.00. As per instructions, clicked thru to store via Cashrewards, had only one chrome window open, didn't browse anywhere else, and turned off Adblock. Bought another Moto G today and if it doesn't work this time I'm closing account.

      • That's interesting, I have never had a problem getting my cashback via cashrewards. I access it through the safari browser but it should work on Chrome too.

      • if you are new user, you need to wait around 7-14 days, once first transaction is confirm, you will got the next transaction pretty quick.

  • +2

Maybe should make this another post, but the Motorola XT1039 Moto G 4G is $211

    • yep, get a 4g lte for aboyut the same price

      • +1

It should be noted the 4G version is the first gen Moto G. But since the ram and CPU are identical, it's effectively a question of whether you value 4G plus a bit of extra battery life vs a better camera and bigger screen..

    • +1

      8 dollars extra for:
      5 inches vs 4.7 inches
      microsd slot
not so good - not supporting 4G

I think this 2nd gen Moto G is a winner

      • +4

They both have a microSD slot and the 4G has a 4.5 inch screen..

      • Agree. Just bought the 2nd Gen. Estimated delivery between Oct.1 to Oct.7 Thanks OP.

      • +1

Agree, you get way better camera compare to 1st gen moto 4G and bigger screen (5" compare to 4.5 not 4.7 though).

        • +1

whilst the screen is bigger, the resolution is the same, so pixels per inch on the 2nd gen is lower

Got an update download from Motorola this morning thats supposed to fix the class 10 SD card issues
    with the XT1039.

Haven't got a class 10 to try it though.

    • +4

for sd card larger than 32gb, use FAT32 format so the phone can read it. It says support up to 32gb because they use exFAT formatting. But FAT32 works fine for 64gb card and above.

      • +1

Also for FAT32 format only able to read file up to 4GB in size, so don't put extra large movies file on the card:)

  • How does it compare to nexus 4?

    • I read somewhere that says the original Moto G (similar internal components as this new 2014 Moto G) is still slightly slower than Samsung Galaxy S3.

      • I was given an Samsung Galaxy S3 and it is nowhere near as snappy as my Moto G. Thats why I didn't bother with the 4g Moto. I have just bought this deal for the SD capacity

        edit.
My local Good Guys have just rung me in less than 1 hour and said they have the order and will be dispatching the phone within 3 days

IMHO better than the 4 (probably better than the 5 now too, certainly better value), a little larger (with bigger screen) and while the G doesn't get Nexus updates, Motorola has been very fast.

      • +5

Better than the Nexus 4, laughable. Better than the Nexus 5, down right stupid.

Great value now that Nexus 4 isn't available.

Edit: Actually with 1gig of ram, I wouldn't recommend it.

        • Happy to be persuaded what makes the 5 better. Please tell.

        • @norkle:

          Nexus 5 has a Snapdragon 800, Moto G (2) has a Snapdragon 400.
          Nexus 5 has 2GB RAM, Moto G has 1GB
          Nexus 5 has a 5", 1920x1080 display (445 PPI), Moto G has 5", 1280x720 display (294 PPI)
          Nexus 5 has LTE, Moto G doesn't.

Sure, the Moto G is cheaper and has expandable storage, but it is definitively worse in every core spec than the N5.

        • @ProspectiveDarkness: thanks for the constructive info PD, happy to be corrected.

For what it's worth for those considering the Moto G for its price, I'm amazed at what Motorola has done with this device based on its specs. Apparently a lot of this is to do with a Qualcomm/Motorola optimisation. I was personally very reluctant about the G because I felt its battery was limited, but in fact its battery life performs on par with my Note 2 and 50% bigger battery. Go figure.

I bought the Xt1033 version during the Ebay deals for $170each, paid 14th September.

2 weeks later and the phones still aren't here, not happy.

    • If it got dispatched you need to follow-up with AusPost. They probably lost it.

Was going to make a slow dick joke. But it's not Dicksmith for once.

  • So you cant run apps from the SD card with this phone because of the new android?
    Is 8GB really enough then?

    • I think you can move apps to and run them from the SD card, but it's ultimately up to the developer of the app to decide. You can also set the camera to store images and videos on the SD card..

Moto G uses stock android, so should behave the same way as nexus 5. And also guarantee upgrade to Android L according to GSM arena spec.

      • +3

For those who aren't familiar, Moto G uses a Motorola ROM, not a Google/Nexus ROM. The Motorola ROM is 'near to' the Google/Nexus/AOSP ROM (it doesn't add much extra to the UI).

battery is same on new and old model, meaning the 5inch screen will drain a bit faster than the 4.5,
resolution on both screens is same on the 4.5 the resolution feels good, dunno how looks stretched on a 5
I got the g4 first gen last ebay sale from mobilcity and very happy with it, i didnt' want a 5inch screen and i wanted to be sure battery was enough for one day plus of use.

about the 8giga, i have podcasts and videos from udemy and didnt need to mount the sd yet, for games i suppose can get quite tight space wise

it's about what you need, the hw is more than enough to be productive(photo editing, word processing, videos, voice chat etc) i didn't play at all to be honest.

as final note while i was shopping last time i avoided GG after reading few stories of out of stock issues and delays

At the end of the day 720p is not as good as 1080p on 5" screen, but for $220 phone 720p res on 5" screen is quite a good deal. I found 4.5" screen is bit too small for browsing or reading emails.

      phone size comparison:
      http://www.phonearena.com/phones/size#/phones/size/Motorola-…

      • Agree that is a Good deal, was just providing some more info.

I used to read plenty of bad story about the battery but I was surprised by mine lasting more than a day with decent use.

  • Is this dual Sim?

  • -4

There is nothing worth buying even with this 20% ebay discount.
    And they don't combine postage.

  • I bought it yesterday at local TGG store and Today I went to store and successfully asked for the refund. Worth to try.

  • How does this compare to a samsung galaxy s3?

Have a read of the specs and the reviews there. The S3 has aged pretty well in specs, but it imagine it must be beginning to show it age in some regards.

    • +9

The main problem is it's a Samsung.

      • +1

        Confused…

          Samsung touchwiz UI is terrible…

        • +1

@zan123: not everyone agrees with that I know for sure.

        • -1

          @zan123:
Plus the tacky design of their phones, from plastic to fake leather. Samsung do one thing good, marketing.

        • @PainToad: Really? Other companies only use all-metal construction with real leather? What a load of crap.

        • @edfoo:
Other companies don't have such terrible tacky taste to want any leather looking rubbish wrapped around their products.

I personally like HTC metal construction, Nexus 4 glass back and Nexus 5 rubber back.

    • +1

The GS3 LET (4G) international version should also be getting KitKat 4.4.4 soon according to the latest news on GSM arena. Good phone slightly slowed by TouchWiz at times.

My phone broke today! Do I want this phone?

    • +3

It's a great little underrated gem, you wont be disappointed at all. Does everything you need, although photo quality is average! Everything else runs fast with good all day battery

      • Cheers. I'll give Motorola a go!

  • Must resist… Failed. Again.

  • +1

Huurrrrrr…. must hold out. The Nexus 5 is bound to drop in price. Think happy thoughts. Happy thoughts…. Happy… happy… there we go.

    • It's been over a year since Google droped the price of Nexus 4 by $100. Maybe they won't do that again this time?

      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/114665

      • +1

The Nexus 4 went down to a crazy $250 just before the Nexus 5 was released. I hoping it'll drop to at least below $300 before the Nexus 6 comes out. And it's going to be this month. I can feel it. I can feel it in my wallet!

        • +1

Yep, paid $250 for mine then but broke the screen. $219.40 seem better value than $399 for N5; but if you can feel it in your wallet, then there MUST be a pending price drop!

  • Oh no, expired!

    • +1

Yeah, I was surprised too. Would have thought it would last a while longer so W.A people get until midnight as well.

  • +1

Couldn't hold out. Wife and dad has the 16GB Moto G from Kogan and are very happy with it.
So I ordered this one, got the notification that my local store has processed in on Monday and arrived Tuesday. So far so good with TGG's service.

    • Yep, the first of my Moto G 2014 orders arrived today. Pretty impressed with the phone so far, too. Well worth the asking price.

    • Picked it up from our goods inwards and the phone was packed in a brown paper bag with 3 staples across the top. I've never seen it packed like this before for a courier delivery.

      • Mine came wrapped in brown paper (& tape) with the box slightly dinged. Phone appears OK though.

A bit surprised that there wasn't a layer of bubble wrap (or similar) protecting the carton.

        • Bad guy Good Guys.

        • I am fuming at the moment.

My moto g arrived looking like turd in a shitty brown envelope with no bubble wrap. The seal on the box was broken and the box looked like it was bumped around and someone had fingered with the phone. It looks like they peeled off the protector off the screen and reapplied it. There are finger prints, scratches and air bubbles on the protector.

I am going to pay the store that dispatched this to me a visit tonight.

Pics - not the best, I didn't know how to capture it properly. http://imgur.com/a/MEOd4

        • well just came back and they swapped it for a new one. so that was good. Still had a shitload of airbubbles under the plastic sheet…. major side eye for moto. But it didnt look like anyone had touched it, so I took it.

        • Mine came in a plastic wrap with minimal padding, the box came sealed and the phone has plastic layer on the screen with few bubbles. So far quite happy with the phone. Came with oz charger and decent earphones.

With the phone itself was surprised with the build quality, the screen looks vibrant for $220 phone and performance is acceptable.

Mine was shipped from Castle Hill by courier.

  • +1

Finally got my order ( do not use parcel locker for courier services!). Phone is amazingly beautiful for $200. And dual sim means its easy to use $10 telstra sims. Thank you op!

  • For anyone still watching this thread and bought one, how are you finding the visibility of the 5" screen in daylight?

    • Really great - better than my iPhone 4 was. The auto-brightness (a feature I did not utilise on iPhone, and do not use on my iPad) is ok too. It may be a tad aggressive for some people, but for the few moments I rely on extra brightness it adapts quickly, and is also pretty quick to turning itself back down once returning inside.

All in all, I'm mighty impressed. Great phone.
