Looking for cheap legitimate Windows 8 or Windows 8 Upgrade

Yeah - I know Windows 8 is crap in its current out of box form.

Either way I need to get a cheap legitimate Windows 8 license.

The best I can find currently (without being a student) is from Dick Smith

for the standard (non pro) 8 version for $149 - coupon "auck9s" - brings cost to $135.59 delivered free
http://www.dicksmith.com.au/microsoft-windows-8-1-single-lic…

Amex then has that credit offer of $15 for $100 spend -

which would bring cost down to $120 AUD delivered

Does anyone know of a cheaper option / approach? Upgrading from XP pro.

I have not seen any B&M retailers selling student edition unfortunately - past alumni count right :)

Students can get the pro version from $MS for 69 or something crazy.

  • Here is one for $82 - they say they are legal keys from MS but have not tried them

    • that store looks dodgy as :)

Looks like amazon does for $90 US - OEM Windows 8 build .. + $7 shipping

      = $97 USD ~= $108 AUD

the retail $120 AUD from Dicky Smith seems better option so far

I think I paid $30 for Windows 8 pro upgrade back a few years… spending $120 seems crazy for the crap version

  • Waiting the win9 coming tomorrow

  • A 'friend' purchased a Windows 8.1 enterprise key for $15 from
    http://www.reddit.com/user/s5ean

It installed and activated perfectly fine so far using the legitimate MSDN obtained iso

    • Considering that the user is moderator of that sub reddit , it's even more crazy cheap and reliable.

  • MSY OEM 8.1 is $109, and you can reinstall at will - one PC at a time.

  • +2

If you're willing to put up with some possible issues you could always try the [Windows 10 Technical preview]
    (http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/preview-iso) for free.

IIRC, those used the Windows 8 preview got the final version of Windows 8 for free
