  • looks ok, but not sure how hard will it be to get replacement globes for these….

    • Super easy actually. CFL globes for these are available in any lighting store and in most hardware/department stores as well.

      • Agree. I see them @ woolies ($6) and bunnings ($10) globe only.

I think it's a good price considering it's a kit not just the globe.

CFL - takes a while to warm up to full brightness ~ 15sec i say. Has wider beam spread then LED but not as bright ( i tried the cheap CFL and the expensive CFL). This has been my experience with CFL vs LED that I've bought a year ago when I was replacing halogens in my house. So it may have improved since then.

LED is obviously a better set up. We are looking to clear out some excess stock here at a bargain price, so anyone who doesn't have the capital to outlay for LED can at least have a energy saving alternative to the halogen set up. $6 for kit + globe is a bargain.

  • If you are a new customer and sign up for their emails, you will receive a coupon for $10 off a purchase over $150.

    • Yes that is correct and all are welcome to take up this offer.

      • signed up, but no email yet…

        • Give it a few minutes. Check your SPAM or JUNK folders as well i guess. It does go out right away, however may take a few minutes to reach you.

  • Can you use GU10 LED's in this fitting?

    • Yes of course you can. It is just a standard GU10 fitting with lamp holder. Just purchase any GU10 globe and plug it in.

  • If I have downlight transformers in the roof now, can I legally replace them myself with this or must an electrician do the job?

    • legally you can't touch anything that is 240V with a screwdriver

But feel free to use a knife from the kitchen to undo and tighten the screws :D

  • Hi I would like to buy up to 50 "13W Fluorescent CFL Downlights Energy Saving Round Gimbal Satin Chrome DownLight Kit" but you don't have any cool light. Can you confirm please?

    • Round Gimbal Chrome just sold out. All cool white 5000K models have also sold out. We currently only have Fixed White and Fixed Chrome, both in warm white 2700K left and they are moving fast. We will sell out today so be quick if you are looking to grab them.

Shame they are for 70mm diameter holes. Already have 90mm for halogens.

    • Yes that's right. The 90mm Gimbal model just sold out.

    • Thanks for noting that there is potentially a difference. I didn't even think of that.

How many lumens come out the bottom of these?

CFL downlights seem to be far less efficient than regular CFL, presumably a lot of light is lost internally?

Also, they are unable to direct the light, like proper downlights, so appear much dimmer still. Bad idea.

  • +1 for good deal and store response and knowledge! Thank you

  • I have purchased 18W Cool white never looked back. However savings comparable to halogen down lights. Especially if you are using 3-4 in one room or 8-10 in living room you will be saving fortune per year…
Warm lights are poor, 13W also very useless unless you boy for the housing $5 dollar and globe comes for $1 dollar….
    No buy for me…

  • As I said last time.. cfl downlights are horrible.. BUT , still great value for the fitting alone , and once fitted u can just throw gu10 leds in any time.. I.e when the next good deal shows up on Here.

  • Please don't buy these… they are obsolete, take a long time to glow brightly (when cold) and LEDs use less power.

    Leds for the win!
