I need to open a new transaction account, so figure if there are any decent sign-up bonuses available I may as well take advantage of the offer. I've fine with being able to put a couple of $k into it for the first couple of months or whatever, but would also need to be able to withdraw it again.

The type of bonuses I had in mind were more along the lines of $50 or $100 or whatever rather than cashback on purchases.
ING Direct was offering $75 just a few days ago. I'm sure they will have another one up in the next week or two.
Stick with a Big Four bank that has the most ATMs near where you live and stop wasting time for a pitiful 2% and tiny cashbacks.
? I don't do cashbacks and while I appreciate the suggestions given, they're not really appropriate for the purpose I have for the account, as I don't anticipate making a large quantity of small purchases within the first few months to be able to benefit from them.
I simply have to open an account, and if one of the banks wants to give me free money for doing so, it's all good with me.
