I'll swap you my N4 for your N5 ;) Where do you live?

  • It has left Hong Kong!

  • +5

I bit the bullet. Got one. Ugh. I hate you, OzBargain. No, I love you. No, I hate you. No, I love you.

    • Nah no regrets flaminglemon - this is a solid phone, nothing for this price compares for all round value. Just make sure you keep a charger/USB to MicroUSB cable with you at all times!

      • Worth it just to get a taste of lollipop next month!

        • +2

I hope the updates go beyond Lollipop. This will be my first ever Nexus device. Who knows? Maybe next year, the Nexus 5 will have a sub-$300 to sub-$200 deal too.

        • lollipop - suck it and see!

      • +1

I guess battery life will depend on usage. I've given up on gaming on Android. Games are filled with ads or IAPs, controls are terrible, etc. I just use my phone for browsing, texting, as a GPS and making calls. That's it. I'll keep a cable in the car, I suppose. Other than that, I should be fine I hope.

  • Great value. Lost my N4 to the icy depths of my toilet, ended up replacing it with a Moto X which is awesome but I was still pretty happy with the N4….it'd suit most peoples needs.

And you get lollipop early :)

    • +1

You didn't return your phone to the shop, did you? Because… you know… factory refurbs…

      • I'd never do that!

Sold it online for parts ;p

  • Thinking of getting one of these for my son who will start high school next year, will the standby battery time last for 12 hours?

Update: Ordered one. Spoke to a work colleague that had one of these and he was getting 2 day standby times between charges. He's since upgraded to a nexus 5 and said that his nexus 5 needs to be charged daily.

Ordered one. Expansys says it's shipped. Any idea if these come from Australia (shipping time measured in days) or Hong Kong (shipping time measured in weeks)? I'm eager and want to know how soon I can get my hands on it. :-)

I've made do with my ancient Froyo Defy (with the old camera, thus ensuring many camera related features do not work on newer software… had issues with cyanogen due to that as well) for a couple years. Lately, I've been dodging issues like "only works on speaker and with headphones because when it went through the wash, that left everything except the speaker for normal talking mode unscathed" (2011), "data connection no longer works" (2012, and no, a new cable did not fix it), and "bright blue blotches that look like ink stains now permanently appear on the screen in fixed locations". (2014) But, you know, I live in Sydney and want a house, so no matter how much I lust after an Xperia Z2, it's not gonna happen.

Friend says, yes, good reliable phone, used it since my Note 2 went for a swim in the loo last year.

FYI: Packaged with an additional item, which is a USB AC adapter for ANZ… so probably not Australian stock. Hope it supports the 3G bands Virgin uses!

      • Mine is in Sydney already! Do DHL have their own planes?? Explains the $18 shipping if so

        • where do you guys get the shipping info?

        • +2

          @PissLUR:

In the 2nd email they send you tracking link (click it) and when that page opens I click the TOLL logo under my item descriptions, this for me then opens up the tracking page.

        • @stemcell: Hmmm…. No Toll logo on the tracking page here…. maybe mine hasn't made it to the carrier yet?(?) (Edit: Aha! DHL logo JUST showed up, a few minutes after I posted that comment! No tracking info for it yet, though… just carrier name…)

        • +1

@NWLikeShopping: im guessing you will get it friday….me probably tomorrow

        • @nathan-drake:

Well I'm in Tassie so I don't expect anything to arrive in the first 3 months after purchase….may as well live in the outback.

        • @nathan-drake: Sadly, my phone is still at the sort facility in Hong Kong. Crap. I can see this already. My phone is going to be sitting frustratingly close to me at the DHL facility in Sydney all weekend. It still says estimated delivery date is by end of day on 31 October, but I'm beginning to suspect I won't be spending the weekend playing w^H^H^H^H^H^H^H^H^H setting up a new phone. :-(

I ordered mine on Tuesday and got mine Today (Thursday), so the shipping is pretty quick.

  • Just ordered the 8GB version and realised that there is no micro SD expansion!!! doh!! I can't see anywhere on the website where I can cancel the order. Bugger.

    • Contact them by email or phone with your order number.
8GB is pretty useless unless the phone is for your mum. N4 might support USB OTG though???

      • Doesn't officially support USB OTG..
From memory, it can be forced to work with an OS hack, but even then, you need a powered USB OTG dongle cause the phone isn't rigged to supply power internally.

    • I emailed them and they cancelled my order. I quickly ordered the 16gb version. phew…….. Looks like there is still stock available.

      • I've had the 16gb for over a year - I have to admit managing files to cope with space restrictions is a pain in the ass. Still love it though.

  • Received at 8:30 am!!! Feels like a new device! All was clean! HOWEVER, the provided bumper had some white dried sweat on the sides (no biggie). Came with 4.2.2, asking me to go to 4.3 update now. Hopefully kitkat soon and htne lollipop after that! Device feels very premium, what a great value for $156 delivered!

  • Oh no, their AU number +61 2801 44851 (12:00-9pm AU time) is disconnected…

  • +1

Purchased one yesterday and DHL page shows that the package has already arrived in Perth, WA.

    :amazed:

  • Purchased 2 on Weds night to replace our sloooow Huawei Y300 phones and tracking says it will be delivered tomorrow! Amazeballs. I ordered stickers for my motorbike via EBay and shipping from Thailand took 30 days. Ya gotta love the efficiency of a dictatorship!

    • This phone is really fast! So much faster than my S2!! And battery is an improvement also! SCreen is very crisp although slightly 'washed out'. Design is great, bumper is handy. Happy with the purchase, as long as the phone can last a while!

  • Mine has arrived in Tassie and is out for delivery, this is the fastest thing ever to arrive here.

  • Thanks for all the comments… Got the 16GB once to replace an S3. Hopefully I'll find it's a decent upgrade!

    • seems like a side-grade lol

  • +1

Received mine today, going to be a great back up phone.

  • +2

Honestly one of my favorite phones ever, I went from a Iphone 4S to the Nexus and will never go back to IOS. Only down sides is the battery and the lack of real OTG (no 5Volts on Micro USB)
A lot to be said about running Vanilla android.
Even my new LG isnt as snappy despite 3 times the power with its added crapware.

  • +1

Received mine too, just like a new one even the bumper bar was still sealed, very happy with my purchase :-)

    • same here, im surprised how decent the battery life is. Only anoying thing is the OTA updates - first 4.3, then 4.4, then 4.4.2, then 4.4.3 then 4.4.4. Took over one hour LOL

      • Mines the same, came with 4.2.2

  • +1

Just got mine delivered. Had finished the first round of testing(dead pixel test etc).

It is a really great buy. for anyone that is still pondering, dont wait any further and bite this offer.

The phone is BRAND NEW imho. it has all the seal and plastic cover and everything.

Even the bumper bar is the original/authentic google brand. Made in Korea.

and the free wall charger is a bonus.

    • Seriously tempted except for the whole battery thing.

Anyone had experience replacing them? eg. www.ebay.com/bhp/lg-nexus-4-battery
(Just talking about the actual battery quality, cheap copies, etc. Replacing it looks straight forward enough.)

      • +1

the battery is pretty good!! I have used 3 hrs screen time and still have 40% left (over the past 23 hours)

        • OK drake - got a his and hers.

Hope your advice doesn't turn out to be deception or else I've sent a fortune down the abyss…

        • @McFly:

After you update to 4.4.4 OTA, make sure you do a factory reset.

I managed to get 5 hrs screen time on one charge (over a 44 hour period), although I was on aireoplane mode for about half that time. Lots of browsing and messaging, one phone call. NO facebook or whatsapp was installed (known battery hogs). If you do install these apps, make sure you greenify them.

Received Mine this morning - what a great phone - appears to be brand new - as stated above. Bargain

  • Still waiting for mine… It's been at the HK sort facility all day today and hasn't moved. Hopefully I get it early next week.

Hello new N4 owners. Join the Lollipop party, it's silky smooth…..

    http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-4/development/lpv-79-m…

    • +1

Are there any great benefits to Lollipop over Kitkat? Will Lollipop be available OTA anytime soon? Thanks in advance. Wow, this is an awesome phone. My Huawei Y300 is always fast after a reflash, but soon bogs down like an old copy of Windows 98. This phone is fast, helped in no small amount by a quad core Krait and 2 gb of ram. Thanks again OP!

      • Update - According to this site, Lollipop is being rolled out Monday (probably US time)! Does it get any better?!? http://www.android.gs/android-5-0-lollipop-update-for-nexus-…

        • +1

Nexus 4 will probably have to wait a few days/weeks past that.

Benefits of 5.0 is its the first time stock Android has beaten iOS in looks department, imo. Plus ART is the new runtime making everything snappier and improving battery (though this was available on 4.4, but not officially supported).

  • bought 16gb. thanks

  • +1

Got the 16GB N4 today (ordered last thursday). Its like brand new with all the protective plastic covers etc. Definitely a great buy.

  • Got mine as well (16gb)as others have said this phone looks brand new - there is no sign of it being a refurbished unit. Very happy with its performance. Thanks OP !

  • What's the delivery time like ?

    • Fast.

        • Got them! So far… so good many reboots (updating.)

  • +1

Just received mine today. Was really excited about it because I read all the messages here and seems like everyone had a great experience me not so much. There are a few scratches on the screen here and there but thats fine. The bumper is slightly cracked and has some white powder on it. Also read that some people got the AUS/NZ adaptor which I didnt but thats no biggie. Overall great value for money and one of the best all time phones IMO.

    • didnt you get a AUS/NZ wall charger?

      • +1

No I didnt :( plus it wont connect to the internet have been trying for the last hour or so

        • You mean 3G? Checked APN.

        • @PainToad: Nah all good now it wasnt recognising any wifi connections so just factory reset it

  • Tired to root this to put android l preview and got a weird looking screen instead of the bootloader. Anyone else with a similar experience ?

  • Mine arrived 3 days ago on Nov 3. It's like new except that it spontaneously reboots about twice a day so far — once when I was going to the Wifi settings, and the other times it reboots when using it as a dashcam with DailyRoads Voyager.

What to do now then? Is it likely to be replaced or refunded, given that it has a fault which they are unlikely to spend the time to reproduce? Also would I have to pay postage both ways between Oz and HK?

    • +1

don't know about wifi settings reboot, but using the camera in any form can result in reboots on the nexus 4. It's been an issue since like 4.3 , so yeah only fix is to rollback to 4.2.2

official bug report (feel free to 'star' the report): http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=67113

I don't notice it as much these days, but I do avoid prolonged usage of the camera so yeah. Sucked that I couldn't use it for long skype calls. Lollipop fix is a longshot as the issues been up forever and n4 probably is near the end of its update cycle

      • Ah, thanks for that. If only I knew beforehand…
I'll be sending it back for a refund then.

Now I wonder does the Nexus 5 also have some catastrophic unfixed problem?

        • What is the android version when you received it? is that 4.2.2 or 4.3
Please let me know, thanks mate

        • @blackhenry: 4.2.something, I think. I didn't pay much attention but it went through about 5 OS updates and according to https://developers.google.com/android/nexus/images , it's 5 hops to 4.4.4, the latest.

        • Because i'm going to order one, that's why i just want to confirm first. What i knew is that 4.2 version is safe for Nexus 4, and the crash happened when it update to 4.3… and 4.4…

        • +1

Try to re-sell it, you may get better luck than send it back and loss postage fees

        • @blackhenry

I haven't experienced a reboot in weeks. It was mostly noticeable in Skype video calls as I could call for hours and would usually experience a reboot at least once or twice an hour. It was actually the reason why I bought a n7, which I found to be an awesome solution for vid calls hehe

        • +1

@blackhenry: I flashed mine back to 4.2.2 using google's stock image, wasn't too hard.

        • @skelty: Did you try cyanogenmod or some other non-stock to see if it solves the camera problem?

        • +1

@jimmyg: I haven't (playing it safe with my warranty) but I just browsed that report thread I linked above:

          • People reporting that with root + hellscore kernel resolves their issues completely
          • Some people reporting CM fixed their issues, some saying it doesn't, some saying it reduces the frequency of reboots, one person saying they still reboot on francos kernel

In conclusion bam! Get on that kernel and flash whatever you want. I'll update my original comment.
Edit: I can't edit my original comment :/
          hells-core on xda: http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-4/general/qa-kernel-he…

        • Tried CM11 M11 (4.4.4), now camera problem is gone, 3 hours of video recording and not one reboot. So now I have a working phone with a voided warranty. Oh well, you get what you pay for.

        • @jimmyg:
Its super easy to flash back to stock and use your warranty.

      • I have never once had issues with the camera in the 12 months with the phone. But I've never used the stock rom (ParanoidAndroid, then MIUI and now Lollipop N6 port).

  • +1

Mine eventually got upgraded to 4.4.4

Couldn't get Cerberus to install cause the previous owner still had it registered to his account. They've emailed him to un-reg it…

  • My two have US plugs too and no earphones.

    • I don't think you want 2nd hand earphones…..

    • +2

Even new, the Nexus 4 didn't come with earphones.

    • My two… too.
Were we supposed to (get AU plugs?)

      • Yes

    • Ok they sent me travel adapters after I wrote to them, unlike 2.1A AU chargers with the other three I ordered afterwards. Oh well better than nothing.

      • Will try that.
On a related note, what about the USB cable that they came with?
Mine are quite thin - are these original? Does it really matter anyway?

        • +1

Try get the 2.1A AU charger block. The adapter business is a bit clumsy. The cables are genuine - thats what LG sell with other phones too.

  • For those on Android 5, has the n5 dialer/google caller ID feature come through?
That's about the most desired thing I can only hope cm12 bring my One next yr.

    • You can get that now on Kitkat, just flash the N5 dialer apk…
