Carbon Fiber Tripod and BallHead and Carry Bag, 7% off. USD $123.69 AliExpress

130

Hi all,
There might be cheaper tripods available but this one is carbon fibre and comes with the ballhead and a really thick carry bag, I just received mine.
It's listed as being 7% off for the next few days, and you may be able to combine that with 10% off available from time to time through aliexpress coupons.

It's the same as this one: http://www.amazon.com/AFAITH-Q-666C-Portable-Monopod-Compact…
but much cheaper from here - 5 star reviews as you can see.

If anyone is looking for a lightweight tripod for travelling that's sturdy and folds up to about 30cm, look no further.
I got mine and it's great.

p.s. just worked out one of the legs is detachable and so bonus CF MonoPod!

  • Looks like a good tripod. How does it hold with heavy camera and lenses?

  • Looks nice. Folds up to 35cm and weighs 1250g. I like the fact you can reverse the centre pole to hang the camera close to the ground. Most tripods don't allow you to have the camera close to the ground.

    • that's true, great for low shots

  • The one on Amazon is advertised as Afaith, whereas the one on aliexpress is DHL.
Besides the name, are they exactly the same?. I don't one to be a cheap knockoff of another.

    • It looks identical, as far as I can tell it's just rebranded products from same factory, like Samyang/Bower/Rokinon lenses.

I can't guarantee to you, but it seems like just more mark at Amazon.

      free shipping DHL maybe?

    • +1

Actually Ali's tripod is "QZSD". The DHL is "Free shipping DHL".

I'm really tempted to get this. I've got a wedding overseas in March… Hum…

      • Good pick up! brand is indeed QZSD

    Here's a picture.
The Tripod and Ballhea will hold the weight of the Sony A99 + 300MM F2.8 without slipping (I would probably use a weight on the bottom in this case to prevent the tripod being knocked over by the huge weight difference).

Since it has 5 legs there is a little leg bounce, but it settles down - The Carbon Fibre stays strong.
For something that folds up so small and is so light it does well. Especially for the money.

It gave me a 10% off coupon when i clicked it from email

      • thanks, I tried, didn't work for me

    • Thanks! Having 5 sections it seems it makes the legs bend a bit. I was looking at 3 section manfrotto carbon fibre ones a while back but they start from US$300 plus (not including delivery form US). This is a very good travel tripod but I don't think I would use it with big and heavy lenses in case it tips over.

      • +1

Agreed, but it has a hook on the bottom you can use your camera bag to weigh down.
I would splay the legs a bit wider also probably.

It's fantastic that it folds down to 35cm though, sure beats my Slik Sprint Mini II

  • bought one! Thanks

  • the aluminium version is even cheaper
    http://www.aliexpress.com/store/product/Hot-Pro-Portable-Mag…

Can the expert comment why should I go for the CF compared to the aluminium one?
    Thanks.

In my experience Carbon Fibre is lighter (10-20%) while being stiffer at the same time, less likely to bend over time but if dropped hard it will shatter, aluminium will bend.

I prefer Carbon Fibre because it is less bendy (vibrations) and a little lighter for backpacking, with the five legs making it less rigid than a 4 leg tripod, carbon fibre should overcome that - and it is just as good as a 4 leg aluminium of equivalent size

      Update:
      CF 280 grams lighter.
CF Can apparently hold 15 kg rather than 8kg of aluminium (while I don't believe this, general rule of thumb is to take 1/4 for a stable run and I've loaded a 1kg camera and 2.3kg lens = 3.3 kg on this just fine).

      • Plus hey, its carbon fibre! Think how cool you will be when you show your sport car enthusiast mates!

  • The Aluminium version of this tripod is $73 inc shipping fyi. (Beaten by 41 seconds)

    • There were some cheaper sellers by a few bucks, but this one is the cheapest for DHL (or fedex) - A must in my opinion for AliExpress for an item of any value.

  • Better to buy branded when it comes to tripods.. Us123 is approx au140.. For 40 more you can get the Manfrotto befree with local warranty. Its not carbon but still quite light and compact.

    • It's comparable to the CF BeFree, but folds smaller @ 35cm. and goes a bit higher (this may make it less stable, but the CF helps keep it stiff)
I don't think the BeFree has a hook.

Both good choices, but you might get a little more bang for your buck with CF. I'm also not sure about the Manfrotto QR plate, it looks a bit small and that flick knob is suspect.

    Is this the same one?

    $82.75 AUD shipped.

    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Q-666-Pro-SLR-Camera-Tripod-Monop…

edit: My bad this one isn't carbon fibre

  • Looks like a good deal, but not quite suitable for me as I'm looking for something slight bigger.

But, out of curiousity, does anyone know if it is an Arca-Swiss compatible QR plate?

    • Yes it is, it is the correct depth and profile for ARCA SWISS, but depending on your QR plate may not be the full width (like my big one) but appears to hold it very sturdily and shouldn't be a problem for the types of camera you use (it held my Omega 4x5 monorail camera), still better than the small manfrotto ones.

  • p.s. just worked out one of the legs is detachable and so bonus CF MonoPod!

If you detach the legs and add the centre column to it and then the head, what is the maximum height for use as a monopod?
How good is the twist lock on the legs?

    • About 155cm from memory - eye level for most 6ft'ers with a camera attached too.
The twist logs are good, enough to hold a 300mm F2.8 + 35mm SLR and me pushing down on it.
Not too loose and not too stiff.

    • so cheap!, wonder how much is shipping

      • +1

        $7.50 for shipping

looks too good to be true so I think I call bs.

        edit:
Yeh they have a Sony a7R kit with lens and flash advertised at 75% off for $300

        So it's a scam.

  • Bought it. Reviews look pretty good for a no brand Chinese item.

  • US$10 cheaper. Will bring down to US$111 using seller $2 coupon.

  • Who has received theirs and what do you think of it? Its on sale a little cheaper on the 11th

    thanks

    • Just got mine today. Looks pretty sweet for the price. Head's a bit small but will be fine for my A7. I'll try it out when I get home but it's legs feel more stable than the CF Manfrotto I had.

  • Got mine this week and very impressed. Will be a great travel companion to my new Lowepro Protactic 350.
