Canon 50mm F1.8 Lens - $129 @ The Good Guys

46

Great price for a bricks & mortar store, local stock (not grey import etc).

Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 II lens is lightweight and affordable, it’s suitable for those who prefer a fixed focal length with a fast f/1.8 aperture making it an excellent addition to any photographer's system for available-light shooting.

Lightweight and Great for Travel

The Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 II lens weighs only 130g and features Gaussian optics for excellent colour balance. With compact and high performance features, the Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 II lens is the ideal choice to take as an additional lens for travel.

Gaussian Optics

A traditional Gauss-type optical design ensures sharp performance even when wide open, and it focuses as close as 18 inches (0.45m) providing sharp delineation from near to far focusing distances.

Could try getting Harvey Norman to price match/beat

  • This will be a good addition to the standard kit lens that comes with the 600D?

Yep. Brilliant little lens. Perfect for learning and teaching you the skills

Everyone who's got a Canon camera needs a nifty 50mm.. It's a great lens for portrait and short DOF photos. Good price too for a f1.8 lens.

    • Yeah mrs was looking for one, all local stores are normally $149 (Jbs, HN etc), with grey imports around $95-$120). At This price, walk in store and get it, local warranty etc its hard to pass up!

    • Exactly.

I've been shooting professionally (sole income from Photography) for over ten years now, and the 50mm 1.8 was my absolute most favourite lens. If you can afford the 1.4 version then you should get that, but the 1.8 is exceptional value for money.

  • Looking at static ice, this price is average?

    • Yep for grey imports, for local stock with proper Canon Australia warranty it's a great price

      • Ok, thanks.

        So a saving of $20?

        • Check ebay link below if you like, it is cheaper if you want to wait for delivery :)

          But yeah otherwise save $20

Slightly cheaper here, for local stock as well. Maybe you can get a price match at the good guys. http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Canon-EF-50mm-f-1-8-II-Authorised…

Which they now sell for $149. Bargain

  • this is a must have lens for canon shooters.. and it's great value for money.

  • For a complete photographic Newbie….what can this lens do that the stock lens that came with the camera cannot (or not as well)?

  • All good guys & girls, Mrs walked in and got it for $126 (though apparently he said he could take $6 off, go figure). Walk in, walk out, Perth stock, no waiting for delivery :)

  • This has been available for 99$ few times in last few years.

Plus - This product comes with a 24 month Australian warranty from Canon Australia

You guys are aware that any bricks & mortar stores posted are Sydney/Melbourne/Brisbane right? Not Australia wide companies. Not everyone can get those prices, or might not have a store local to them. In your circumstances yes, it might be cheaper, but not a need to neg the deal because of your own situation. For people in the rest of the country, who don't want to wait for delivery, this is the best deal available from a bricks & mortar store.

Please also be aware that this is Ozbargain, not SpackbaceBargain or PerthBargain.

Can you guarantee that there is a TGG near all OzBargain users also?

      • Not all, but a bigger majority :)

SHould i go and neg the Aldi/Costco deals for not being available in my state? Same thought process right?

Besides the Ebay listing previously (first posted by rayboy, you just repeated it ;) ), any link above would need to mention states available if it were posted as a deal. So why is that a reason to neg a nation-wide deal?

        • Should i go and neg the Aldi/Costco deals for not being available in my state? Same thought process right?

No. You can only neg a deal for the following reasons

          1) The deal is not the cheapest available

          2) Defective Product (Product recalled)

          3) Major issues with retailer (e.g. Not receiving previous purchases)

So why is that a reason to neg a nation-wide deal?

I negged because it wasn't the cheapest deal available. I understand the desire for a local warranty, and to be fair I went and found a store that had local stock (and warranty) for cheaper and with free shipping.

        • Not really. If I live in Perth and see an Aldi/Costco deal I wouldn't bother even going into the deal, so I'm unlikely to neg.
You see a post for TGG and most will go in, and everyone who thinks it's a bad deal is going to neg it unless you put [only a good deal for perth people] in the title or description.

      If it's not a bargain, it's not a bargain.

    • Icecreambandit has linked to a deal for $120 shipped. Paying extra to pickup from a store is not a bargain.

  • Cheaper here too: http://www.digidirect.com.au/camera_lenses/canon/standard/ca…

Just admit that it's not a good deal or at least only an okay deal for the few people who need the lens but don't have access to the numerous shops that stock it cheaper.
For me, these stores are actually much more convenient than the closest TGG.

    • I actually plus-ed the first person to put up the ebay listing :) (not icecreambandit btw)

  • bought mine for $80 :D back when TGG had the 30% off ebay

  • This is NOT a good deal for $129.

  • CAMERAHOUSE at Top Ryde Centre is selling this for $115 now, confirmed. Also I bought one from them at $98 a few months ago, so $129 is not a good deal.
