Seems like a pretty decent price for Australian stock from Camera Pro. Cheaper than grey imports

Very tempting as I'm looking at 15-85mm instead cheapest around $800

Solid lens. Probably the best non-L glass in its range.

    • Excellent optics, just not as solidly constructed (not weather sealed) as their 'L' range.

  • Probably the best APS-C general purpose lens there is, closely followed by the sigma 18-35 f/1.8. 10/10.

    • any good deals on that?

  • I have this lens and it's a very good lens for crop camera bodies only. Also great lens for travelling. If I can only take one lens with me from the ones I own, this would be the one I choose.
Not a lens to get if planning to go full frame in the future.

  • Can't decide between this one and the sigma 18-35mm f/1.8….similar price.

    • No IS on the Sigma. Unless you really need or can make use of the f1.8, I'd go with the Canon.

Sigma's are nice, but don't attract the resale value of the Canon lenses.

Also support down the track (new body, spare parts) is always more patchy with 3rd part lenses, whilst you can always find spares of the OEM lenses.

  • I went with the 15-85 as the focal range is great for a walk around lens and the IQ not a huge amount of difference, this just has the benefit f2.8 which I was ok to go without.

    • I was contemplating between 17-55 and 15-85. I went for this offer instead as the price difference was down to a $100 (ozbargain mentality kicked in, went with the more savings option)

Looks like I need to get a 10-xx

  • Damn… just had a look.. they have the 16-35mm f4 for cheaper than grey, with proper australian warranty (and includes GST).. hmm tempting… are they too good to believe? anyone have experience with them?

My wife has just bought a 5D MIII from them recently (unfortunately just before the latest cash back offer!). Prior to that she has bought lenses as well. They were super quick with delivery. I think they're in Brisbane or GC maybe?

  • This is a great deal, and as most photographers that have experience have noticed, LENS PRICES DO NOT DEPRECIATE (not a lot anyways) only CAMERA BODIES do. I think it'd be wise to pick this up if you've been look at it. However, I still prefer the L Series in general, but not everyone has the finances for those series.

It's not an investment no matter what anyone tells you. Take any almost any pro lens from the 80s and see if you'll get anywhere near the same price on it. Even pro lenses need servicing from time to time and have components fail. Also manufacturers change mounts - not often but they do do it. Yes it's decades vs months for camera body but a lens purchase is only ever worth it if you're going to use the darn thing. If you want an investment look elsewhere.

      • Not sure I ever said investment, not even once.

  • Do Good Guys price match?

maybe can get the $200 voucher too?

    • only $100 if they do end up price matching.. give it a go?

  • question guys - should i purchase this, or pay a little bit extra and buy an L-lens? I want to upgrade from my crappy stock lens, but figure I may as well invest now since I'm spending so much anyway

    • If you plan to eventually migrate to a Full-Frame body then buy L, as you won't be able to use this in future.

      • Thanks for the response mate!

  • FYI, good guys will price match… just a bit messy doing the online price match - and getting the $100 off…
