Seems like a good price for the Canon 600d… anyone seen anything comparable before?
And do we have to wait until thur and go into the store and hope they have stock, or is there some other way?

here is the last special on it $451

You can buy it from 2pm Wednesday that's when the price updates in the system.

      • +1

You can only check I guess, maybe call them up beforehand

      • Excellent, thanks! I'll do just that :)

    • +1

Best price I have ever seen.

    Great price for the 600D

    • Yeah think I might pick one up or put on Layby if I can

    • +1

For sure it is a great price. I bought mine last Christmas for about $480.

They really aren't a very good camera. They are very behind others on the market now and the lens it comes with is average to say the least. They weren't even very good when they were released. You will end up needing to replace the lens or buy additional ones. If you only ever intend to use this lens, then you are probably better off buying a camera with a fixed lens, which has a better sensor and a more practical lens. These cameras are fairly heavy, particularly given the performance.

The biggest issue with these cameras is the poor dynamic range (between light and dark).

$394 for a new kit is great for a beginner.

I've picked up better 2nd hand deals (5 months ago a 100D with 18-55 STM, ~1600 clicks for $400), but for a newbie wanting to walk in off the street to buy their first DSLR, it's a good device/price.

  • Double the $100 cashback by buying $200 more in Canon products. Essentially, if you could find a $200 pocket camera, you'd get it at 50% off. Wonder- is this a one-off for BigW, or would they carry lenses?

  • Unfortunately Macquarie Big W doesn't have any in stock. I doubt they will get it in either.

    • They should get in stock considering it's xmas time and they have it in the catalogue

  • I am always wary about buying anything from Coles/Woolworths/Big W/K mart etc. The Quality control is ordinary, and products are quite often subject to heat, depending on where they are on the warehouse.

  • Or IGA, or support independent businesses.

  • If we buy two 600d camera, am i eligible for double cash back.

Canon is suggesting any other product for double cashback. I m confused. Plz help required

"double cash back" is a little confusing… it means if you buy the 600d and "any other canon product of more than $200" then you will get an extra $100 off the total (ie max of $200 discount).

Eg if you buy two x 600d you will get $200 discount, ie 2 x $500, discount $200… thus $800 total (or $400 per camera). ie No advantage over buying just one!

The benefit would be if you bought another cheaper item you wanted anyway. EG one x 600d ($500) and one x lens (say $201)… ie $701, discount $200… thus $501 total. Effectively a $400 600d and half price lens maybe!

The $100 discount amount is attached to the 600d, see the List of eligible products for the different discounts… eg if you wanted a 5d Mark II there's a $200 discount!

But it must be on one receipt, which means that Big W is unlikely to have anything else you want, so the double-discount will be useless to us :)

Of course the reason we're interested in buying at Big W is that the 600d has such a good discount before the cashback :)

      Hope this helps!

Thanks thts really helpful. Much appreciated

      • big w has the canon sx400 for $298.. it's not the cheapest local stock but not by much (digidirect has it for $293)

anyways, why not double up on the cashback for the 600D by buying both of these?

        600D = $494
        SX400 = $298

        Total = $792
        Less Canon Cashback = $592 (2x$100)

offload the SX400 for $200 and total in the end will be $392… not really worth the $2 saving though lol :P

  • $370 at http://www.digitalcamerawarehouse.com.au/category1035_1.htm. I have purchased gear from these guys before. Very quick delivery.

    • Body only

    • Yeah that's the Body Only in that link which makes it a not good for non Aussie stock

      • DCW is Aussie stock

        • Yep your right for some reason I thought it was DWI, anyway still not a good deal

Just bought the last 600D at Doncaster. They are now sold out at:

    • Box hill big w
    • Doncaster big w

The guy at the counter checked if more were coming in, but said that although they will have it in the future, there were currently no orders for 600Ds.

Good call on the price update Wednesday 2pm @chadiwrx. They were already advertising it in store at that time.

Good luck if any one else is getting one. Just call the store beforehand to check for stock because they don't usually hold many, and can't place catalogue items on reserve.

    • Since the stores mentioned are close by, if others are keen on one in the area try Forest Hill Big W. I bought two today and there was still four in stock apparently.

      • Why did you buy two?

  • I bought the last one in Mirabooka.

  • Anyone try price matching with other stores?

  • Plenty at Wangeratta. The BigW ladies could not understand the demand for these cameras.. Haha

  • Got one from Hallett Cove yesterday. There's a couple left.

They were the 8th store I called. If other people want to get in on this don't wait.

  • Managed to get one at Warringah Mall Big W yesterday. They had two that had come back from cancelled Lay-Bys! Just lucky this time!

  • pretty much just called every single store in SA for the 600D. all outta stock! called stores like Good Guys & JB Hi-Fi though, they happily price match

    • Did they have single kit lens available? Was looking at their websites and they all seem to have twin lens kits only.

      • just picked mine up tonight from JB and they were able to do it with the single lens kit! they gave me a bit of a hard time, but worked out in the end

        • Why wouldn't they do it with the slk? If they are matching they have to match the product

        • Picked up one from JB as well. didn't exactly price match, but was offered $501 with additional 1 yr warranty or $529 for additional 2 yr so paid $529. Now to start buying all the accessories!

        • @draistlin: nice one! yeah, they tried upselling a lot of other stuff but thought i'd get all the extras for better prices elsewhere

My wife bought this for me as a surprise Christmas gift (but I when I saw the price on the credit card transaction list I knew what she'd done). I'm a Nikon shooter that's a bit fed up with Nikon but not willing to completely change systems but wanted to try going over to the dark side. She figured this would be a cheap way to try that out. (I think she realizes I'm going to end up buying at least 2 more lenses and an expensive flash).

Love my wife to bits. And yep I'm bragging :P Supporting my gadget habbit was in the wedding vows…no really!
