Why would you want to buy expired hersheys?

    • +4

Do you not understand the difference between best before' and 'use buy'?

  • -4

Best Before date is 1 October 2009.

It's already 5th today, these stuff should be dumped rather than sold for 8 bucks plus postage.

    • +2

Yea, dump it and add to our growing food waste problem. Great idea!

There is nothing wrong with the chocolate, it is not expired.

    • Don't worry, there's probably nothing natural in hershey's chocolate anyway. I'm sure it will still be sitting around preserved long after we're gone!

  • +4

its not expired.. it only best before, ive had them before like this and there is no taste or texture difference

  • -6

eww more old/off chocolate, fresh chocolate is sooo nice :)

  • +6

I think it's only illegal to sell food after the "use by" date is past, or if the food is unsafe to consume (regardless of dates).

Having said that, the OP should probably stress that it's past the best before date. I read Oct 2010 for some reason on the first go.

You need to understand the difference between use by and best before, they mean completley different things.

“Use Buy” is used on perishable food items (milk, cream and so on) which develop bacteria as they age, these bacteria can be harmful to human health.
Even so, use buy dates are conservative; drinking milk a few days after this date is not going to kill you nor will it make you sick provided you smell it and use common sense.
Food past its use buy date cannot be sold.

“Best before” is used on non perishable foods where bacteria will not grow over time.
After the best before date a product may change in colour, consistency and/or taste however poses no harmful effect from consumption.
Best before is a date which the manufacturer grantees the food will be in the same condition as it left the factory.
There is no harm in selling food past its best before date nor is it illegal. There are even supermarkets which only sell food past its best before date at large discounts.

You will not get sick from eating this chocolate nor is it going to taste or look any different, in say 3-6 months things might be different.

  • +2

It is Not Illegal… Stop guessing and assuming!

  • +1

Erm… I would buy it for 50 cents, $1 max lol

    • 1++

    shite as

  • -1

No confusion with "best before" for me. Naysayers probably also think Lindt is the be all end all of chocolate.

    • Lindt ain't too bad for the price, I do like their dark chocolate.
But Godiva I gotta say tastes better, but that comes attached with a higher price tag.

  • -8

even if someone just give these out for free … no thank you !

  • Yikes…..

  • +1

its only a few days past; not like the orginal date is accurate anyhow.

good deal if you're after choccies.. too bad I'm on a health kick :(

  • +4

I have purchased 'past useby' chocolate from 1-day and it has been fine. Chocolate usually has to be many months out to begin to taste noticeably different. (It was the Cadbury Dark 'Gold' chocolate).

  • +1

None of you have eaten overdue chocolate? Bunch of snobs. :)

    • +1

lol Afur (btw ur name sounds familiar - did you go to ANU?)

Last time 1-day had a similar deal, it took over a week to be delivered. :P

      • Yeah but it's still just a week past the 78 week shelf life.

To put it into perspective, it's kinda like being shortchanged 1.3c in the dollar. Or paying about $450 bucks more on a $35,000 car.

      • I did indeed. I've finished up there now though.

    • +3

agreed. the old gold expired choc taste as good as it would normally. dont worry, with them around we have less worries with these selling out too quickly

  • +4

I purchased the 12-pack of Old Gold 1-day released a couple weeks back, it is past its best before date but tastes fine, theres a big difference between use by and best before dates

    • Funny i purchased the 12 pack of od gold as well however the best befor date is 4/01/09 weird.

  • I guess it is up to the individual if $14 for 1.9kgs of out of date chocolate is a bargain.

I would be happy with 1.5kgs of cadbury chocolate from the supermarket for about the same money

  • +2

    lost of idiots downing this..

good bargain if you like to consume copious amount of chocolate :)

    not for me though

    good for halloween maybe

  • +3

    So according to the site:

100g of Hersheys Almond Kisses = 35.4g of fat

    and 400 Hersheys Almond Kisses = 1.9kg

    Therefore

If you eat the whole thing = 672.6g of FAT

    • i actually want to eat them now to see what it would do…. lol.

      • +3

You'd get a nasty case of mudbutt.

But then, you'd get that from 2kg of most chocolate.

At 3.5c including delivery per Kiss, it's a bargain.

  • +2

    Should not be encouraged.

  • +1

    hersheys is gross anyway

  • +1

Manufacturers usually choose a 'best before' date well before the time when the food would be expected to deteriorate and spoil. A conservative 'best before' date is designed to encourage you to eat the product while it is fresh and at its best, so you should consider 'best before' dates as a guide only. Frozen and canned products, in particular, tend to keep their quality for some time after the 'best before' date has expired. Within reason, provided the food looks and smells as you would expect, it should be safe to eat, even if the 'best before' date has passed.

    • Yeah, I have no problem consuming food after the best before dates.

I do get annoyed at retailers selling food after best before without bringing it to your attention. E.g. here I read Oct 2010 first time around and thought it was a great deal. I think the lesson is I need to read the year more carefully…

      • +2

So in this case you are blaming others because you can't read properly? ha!

      • lol. "I'm voting negative because I can't read properly"

    • Literally best before is as it states best before like bread i like to eat it when its fresh.

Try the taste difference find an old block of chocolate and i dont know like the ones sold previousl;y at aforementioned sites and then buy a new fresh bar (same trype brand) from a supermarket (make sure its not out of date or close to date) then taste ahh so sweet and bitter

If you cannot tell the difference the you have no taste or your a chocolate junky and there is help available….

  • the total weight is not mentioned.
without that we cannot compare quantities.
if each weighs 5 grams, 400 should weigh 5*400=2kg?????
    is this right?
    then it is a bargain.
if it weighs 1.4 kg say @ $$8+6=$14 then it costs $1/100 grams which is still good value.
useful when you are trying to wean yourself from the habit.
have 1 a day after avoiding all sweets and chocs as a reward.
soon you will forget the chocs.

only other problem is saturated fats hide trans fats which are banned totally in right thinking jurisdictions including california where the terminator rules.
there is no known safe level of trans fats which are carcinogenic and hiding in the catch-all saturated fats category.
we are a bit behind on these things, europe also bans them.
and needs them to be specifically labelled.
but they too export it to us!
Maybe this is genocide through Choke A Late…

also apparently cockroaches love chocolate and the vats attract them and they just stir them in as there is no way they can ban their illegal migration.
If only John Howard were still around.
He would make sure the cucarachas would be sunk before they cha-chaed onto our fair blonde shores.
I believe there may still be a chance that he will rise, resurrected to lead the liberals again to glorious defeat, if Malcolm is assassinated by his doughty lieutenants.
    hail MacBeth!

    • They state that the weight is 1.9kg.

      • well in that case its cheap!
hang the trans fats, obesity, diabetes, this is a must have, and at $8+$6 =$14 is cheaper than normal lines.
of course the efficient consumer would buy 8 packs for almost $80 +$6 postage to minimise the postage.
        or must it be 9?
and then judiciously offer a choc to all friends to show them how kissable you are.

        • There was a limit of 1 per customer, and who really needs 3600 chocolates? lol

          • @[Deactivated]: these guys are really cunning.
they force you to buy their other expensive products as well to minimise shipping!
but i guess by now with all the dithering I have lost the chocs as well!
he who hesitates on chocs is lost!

            • @Candour: $5.99 shipping for a 1.9kg package is exceptional value

This vendor either pedals junk or bait.

    • Junk is subjective, and I've had no problem ordering from them.

    • Junk is subjective, and I've had no problem ordering from them.

    • Junk is subjective, and I've had no problem ordering from them.

    • I think the stuff they sell is generally better than cotd.

  • Ok, I got it (them). The condition is ok, but the quality of the chocolate is a bit naf. Too much fat and not enough cocoa for my liking. Literally a big clear plastic bag with no label.

    • The chocolate is a bit crappy, but I think it was that way before they went past their best before date.

I gave myself heartburn eating so much fat over the weekend with these :(

  • I love these chocolates. Big thumbs up for $8 lol. yes. pretty unhealthy though
