Hmmm, $50 shipped in March, $57 shipped in April.

Now $65 shipped and the FX rate against the US dollar is better than earlier in the year…

Admittedly, this is still cheaper than MSY and delivered to your door

  • Yep, I have also noticed prices gone up a notch with 9289 free shipping … maybe these stocks were bought during the bad FX rate

    • I have also noticed prices gone up a notch with 9289 free shipping

Well the cost of the shipping has to be covered somewhere.

Saying that i have been keeping my eye on a few things and the price has not changed for over a month.

world price ddr2 has been going up for months now…lucky i brought mine when it was 50 bucks

  • Still the cheapest on StaticIce by far. Note the MSY listings are probably non-existant "specials" on their "hot" promotions page. I rang the Clayton store and the cheapest 2 x 2GB kit they had were the GSkills - $89.00

  • jennica, what happens if I don't know what ram I need and I buy this to test it?

    • Sorry for the late reply

You can email to our customer service or call them to double check. They can make sure you choose the right one.

      Thanks for your question.

  • Hi,

I run Windows XP Pro 32Bit edition, if i purchase this can the 32bit edition utilise the 4gb? thanks

Also, i already have 2x1gb non transcend RAM in two out of the four slots on my motherboard. In the future, when running Vista 64bit for example, can i run the Non Trascend RAM with the Transcend RAM and achieve 6GB of RAM? haha

    • thanks for your question. I think it will be better you email to our customer service or call them to double check.

Or if you want the answer hare, I have to check for you it takes time.

Let me know which way you would like to go

      thanks

      • can u check for me thanks, i dont mind the time. and answer here please :)

    • if i purchase this can the 32bit edition utilise the 4gb

      No.
You need a 64 bit install to see more than 4gb

can i run the Non Trascend RAM with the Transcend RAM

      Yes.

      • cheers mate

        concise response for the win

  • Drexxx,

Windows XP 32bit will only use 3GB (or 3.25, can't remember the exact number)RAM, not the full 4GB.

You should be able to use the 2 x 1GB stick + the 2 x 2GB stick - this is totally dependant on your motherboard - so you need to check with your mobo's manufacturer.

    • Ah kewl thanks.

Yeah i have 4 slots on my mobo.

    • The amount of memory a 32 bit OS can use, depends on the peripherals installed. Generally it's the video card that uses up most addressable space. So if you have a 512MB video card, you'll be able to use 3.5GB ram. If you have a 1GB video card, you'll only be able to use 3GB ram.

You can bypass the issue by enabling PAE support. But, Windows can have ahem 'stability issues' with PAE. It depends on the drivers you're using.

All in all, you're better off going 64bit.

So if you have a 512MB video card, you’ll be able to use 3.5GB ram. If you have a 1GB video card, you’ll only be able to use 3GB ram.

        No.
That is only correct if the video card is on board and uses system memory (plus no on board video card uses a set amount memory, you can always specify the system ram it uses)

A 512mb video card means that the video card itself has 512mb of its own memory, it does not take anything away from the ram you have in your PC.

Think what would happen if someone with 512mb of ram installed a 512mb video card and the video card actually took 512mb of system ram.
Thinking about that again, 512mb video cards are very common as is having only 512mb of ram in a basic pc.
If what you are sasying is correct then the pc would have 0mb of available ram.

        • umm… no. It was correct afaik.
Windows XP 32-bit can only address 4GB of memory space - so it only knows how to 'talk' to 4GB max. That 4GB is memory space anywhere in your system - including graphics cards. Therefore if your total system memory is less than 4GB eg a 512MB graphics cards + 3GB of RAM in your system it can address it all, and you can use it all. If you have a 512MB graphics card and 4GB of RAM, it will address the 512MB in your graphics card, and only 3.5GB of RAM, and your system will show less RAM than you actually have physically in the machine.

  • Before you do that check your mobo to see if it can handle more than 4 gigs

  • Hi thanks for your responses.

What about RAM Latencies… if they do no match, will ALL the RAM just operate at the slowest latency and not cause any problems. My CPU is highly overclocked, my RAM is not overclocked tho, is that going to be a problem?

    Thank you

    • if they do no match, will ALL the RAM just operate at the slowest latency and not cause any problems

      Yes and yes

  • whats the different with this http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/10858
same one, much more cheaper and its from your site too
why dont you put the same prices as previous one

    Cheers

    • Memory prices change quite quickly, I've seen it when it has changed every day and that offer was 210 days ago!

    • The price of ram modules (the individual chips on each stick) are extremely volatile, i am pretty sure there is even a ram market index (like the ASX200, DOWJ ect) just for ram!
