Bought one of these last time, got the YLOD after 2-3 weeks. Not worth the trouble

The YLOD was with the original far models and hasn't been a problem for ages. I ordered one of these to take on holidays

You get this machine precisely because it's 12GB HDD.

That way you don't have to pay bloated prices for a 5400rpm garbage mechanical drive.

You swap it out for a cheap SSD. I put one in mine and I think it has actually improved load speeds by about 400%.

      • Your post piqued my interest. How hard is it to swap the hard disk? Could I buy any SSD and swap it myself?

        • plenty in youtube about this

I used to have a 12gb version and when i put a 500gb HDD into minei was surprised to find out that it's different the the other ps3's as this has internal memory (12gb) it automaticly copied over everything from the internal memory to the hard drive and you where set to go .

you need a mounting kit though if you where to do this.

        • @holden93:
yeah they made it even simpler now than the fat or older slimer. I still had to download latest firmware file and put it in a USB stick though.

        • @Kanasuke: Back when i was about to do it every youtube vid was talking about using a usb stick and doing it that way which i had all prepared then it did it automatically , it was heap easy.

  • Picked up a 2nd-hand PS3 recently to play some exclusives and thought I'd done alright at $90. That's a fair suite of quality games included, even if you already had some of them on other platforms.

As a Chrissy present for a kid who may not have previously owned a console, or was coming off a Wii etc, it's top value.
