Can anyone compare with Kogan 55" Agora 4K Smart 3D LED TV (Ultra HD)
    https://www.kogan.com/au/buy/55-agora-4k-smart-3d-led-tv-uhd…
It has all the rings and bells but unsure quality is a match? And LG panel? Passive 3D

    • +9

Can anyone compare with Kogan 55"

This one is 5" bigger for a start…

      • That mean UHD is less important than size?
I was hoping to use as PC monitor, CCTV monitor and TV…
I guess Sony has the advantage of the name.

        • +2

I would take this personally. If you've got the PC that can run that, then buy a decent 4K monitor, but this'll have better picture quality than the Kogan. Kogan uses a cheapo 4K panel

  • I bought this, just as you posted.

I was going to buy from JB as I have $40 in gift cards, but they wanted $10 more for the TV and $60 for shipping (vs $30 at GG!). I couldn't be bothered going instore to haggle the price at JB down.

    • +3

at my local jb, price matching is a PITA. the guy offered $1 off…

      • +1

That's what I suspected would happen. Too much effort - getting dressed, driving there, finding a park, finding a SA. Shopping in my PJs is much more convenient!

  • Double the price for 12 more inches? Get the $498 one !!!

    • But 48 inches is too small. Bigger is better.

    • +7

48 inches vs 60 is actually a pretty big difference in total screen area.

      • +1

Ya, we were going to buy a 50" a few months ago, but an LG 60" Plasma was on sale so we got that. When I walked into a store one day and saw a 50" it looked absolutely tiny.

        • Most people have a few TVs in their house and if they all gotta be 60 inchers they got high standards.

    • The other deal is a 50hz TV (if its the one listed here earlier), this one is 100hz, double the price for double the hz.

    • Where did u get the 48" from? Model number? Thx.

      • Pretty sure its this one …https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/176310

  • I bought this tv at JB just now. After I mentioned price and delivery cost are cheaper at Tgg, the sales person gave me free delivery, plus buying at jb you get one extra year of warranty which worth about $60 at Tgg.

    • One extra year just by buying at jb?

      • Yes, it's free for any product over $500. I have bought a tv and a HP desktop. Both have only one year manufacture warranty but JB will give one year extra.

        • Is that all JB stores in Australia ? The sucker down the road didn't mention nothing about this and I just bought the TV from him. You reckon I should go back and talk about this ?

        • +1

          @AussieB:
Mine were purchased from two different stores in Brisbane… Give them a call…

        • @Ahan: Can you please tell where the stores are at? Just in case these guys wanna call and confirm.

        • @AussieB:
It's definitely part of their policy. It's called JB HI-FI Minimum Voluntary Warranty Period.

        • @AussieB:

          https://www.jbhifi.com.au/General/Corporate/Consumer-Matters…

There is a pdf for download at this page. It depends on how much the item is.

        • @hippo2s: Yup. After waiting endlessly on the phone to talk to them, I went down and them boys confirmed. TV's got a year's warranty and JB gives another year. Of course, I also made them return my 9 bucks - price match difference with TGG price :). All good. Cheers.

        • @AussieB:

Haha. Good on you. I had them match their store price from $1233 so didnt want to argue over $9.

    • If only other stores were open..

  • +3

FYI - I just did a quick search after got back. For the TV plus 5 year of extended warranty delivered, the cheapest I can find is Videopro…

  • Why bother with extended warranty…tv's get cheaper by the day

    • I have made two claims under extended warranty in the last year.. It could come in handy…
First one was for my fridge. It broke down during my overseas trip… I claimed all spoiled food(all food receipts I could find) plus a free repair.
Second one was for my 3 year old acer desktop.. I eventually got a brand new HP i5. In short, I am quite happy with my overall experience with extended warranty..

      • +1

        so, not ur TV?

  • Does anyone know if Sony Motion flow worked when connected to a computer? (for gaming)

    • You would want to turn it off for gaming. Having the tv make up additional frames will not improve graphics. In fact turning it off will allow ur tv to rely on the refresh rates of the console or pc.

  • Anyone know if this uses a Vesa wall mount?

    • I'd be very interested to know..

    • Has a 400 x 400 pattern but on the lower part of the TV I.e not centred.

  • +2

60" is the new 42".. It makes sense to upgrade with minimal difference in pricing. You won't feel the need to upgrade until the 90" screens drop sub $3000.

    • Got my 40in for $800 in mid 2011, if I get a 60in for $990, now, then an 80in in will be $1200 in mid 2018, right? Can't wait!

      • +1

Well it probably won't help, as you get older you need it bigger to offset the poorer eyesight.

So when you are 90, your 1000in TV will cost $900 but you'll just be able to make out the action on the screen….

  • Grabbed 1 from JB, 10 bucks more expensive but it's 5 minutes drive to pick up. A couple of weeks ago bought a Samsung UA40H5000 for 499, should havr waited for Sony…

  • looking at it, pictures under my range. i would go HN $407 more 60" W850.

  • I don't think the box for this TV can fit in a normal sedan. Just bought the cheapest delivered option from Videopro $998.

    • It fits in my Golf :)

  • Also looking at buying this from Videopro ($998 delivered), but has anyone had experience with warranty issues? I recall reading about having to pay for shipping to the repairer. Should I try to just get JB/GG to match the delivered price??

    • +1

I was offered free shipping by jb so shouldn't be an issue. Warranty wise I like JB they give one year extra for free to make it to two years if the manufacture warranty is only one year.

      • Thanks Ahan, just bought it from JB for $998 delivered with the 2yrs wty. Had to call 2 stores as the first one basically told me to get stuffed.

  • Anyone able to confirm the dimensions of the box?

Wondering whether it will fit in my Camry with the seats down or if I'll need to bring a van.

    • just bought one and it fit in my i30 with the seats down :)

    • Just bought one too, I drive a Jazz. Suffice to say everyone was surprised it fit.

    • Wont fit in boot. Box or no box. Wont fit thru rear doors as car body is not wide enough to accomodate width of tv even no box. You are better off getting delivered or trolleying it home if within walking distance. Wagon taxi…yes.

      • Didn't wanna risk it and ended up taking a relatives hi-ace and fit it easily. Brilliant tv. Happy with the purchase.

Just trying to figure out the media player functionality for an external hard drive as it doesn't seem to recognise the preorganised folders like my samsung does and I've seen LG do. Anyone had any luck?

  • +1

Don't forget to get the bonus $100 voucher for $500+ spend at TGG

  • NOT WORTH only has 50% more screen area for double the price compared to the 48 incher. Or more $400 vs $900 is you include cahsback.

    • Have you seen a 48 inch vs 60ninch side by side? The difference is 'wow' vs 'holy s*%t thats massive'.

      So worth it.

  • Called up TGG & JB, sold out in vic

Interesting enough, TGG online customer support told me they're back ordered -95 orders too

  • I have the 55" model of this TV, and it's a damn fine box. Works amazing with a PS4 also :)

    • Sure is a nice box ;)

    • The 60 inch version is using a totally different panel and internals (eg. Motion flow 200 vs motion 400). I can only assume they made the differences for a good reason ie.even better. :)

  • I went today to GG to buy this and decided against it. I have series 8 samsung Tv and the picture quality on the sony is very poor in comparison. Also the tv on the back as some bulge to it. All in all good price for a cheap tv but i would rather spend the extra cash on series 7 samsung. They had a display model at harvey norman for 1499 but still did not buy. I will try and pick one brand new for that price.

    • From what i have read series 7 and series 8 Samsung are like w8xx and w9xx in Sony. The prices are also dramatically different. So its not a fair to compare them.

  • Thanks op. Got one at jb in Bundall. TGG out of stock. Video pro stick arriving end jan. Jb were getting 16 more in today. I got the last one in stock this morning. Pretty good. 400 x 400 mount pattern but it's on the lower part of the TV.

  • +1

Got this price match at Appliance Online. They have 6 left in Victoria and delivering tomorrow.

  • +1

Just preordered this telly at this price from JB Dandenong. They were -4 in stock, they tell me it could be one to three week. looking forward to it, I hear nothing but good things about this panel. Unfortunately I can't bring it home on the motorbike, so delivered for $39

  • Videopro are advertising these on TV so anyone still looking should try them.

  • Bought this TV and last night a green vertical line started showing up.
Trying to call sony but the support is close on weekend. Not happy.

    • That's sad. Had that issue on a 2 month old Samsung. They replaced the actual panel and did not trouble again.
