Cheers. Completed the form. Although strange that company field was mandatory for a home plan.

    • +7

Did you put down OZBargain in the company field.

They will start wondering why 1000's of subscribers work at the Ozbargain Company

      • Haha no I didn't but now I wish i had. Strangely when I click the link again in now auto populates my email address and has new fields for job title, department, purchasing role and upcoming projects.

This promotion is eligible to US residents only.
Also Australian customers have Sydney-based servers and pricing plans. As far as I know, Australian customers aren't entitled to the US-based pricing and offers.

(BTW, I have two subscriptions to CrashPlan already. It's awesome…highly recommended. It works on Mac, Linux as well as Windows).

    • +2

      Put USA as your country

    • +1

So what happens to our accounts when we use 'em in Australia?

      • +1

Should be fine to use them in Australia. Just apply the License Key when you receive it

      • In my experience with Code 42, they will likely be invalid from the start. I don't think this promotion applies to Australian customers at all.

SO i put Australia as Country and signed up and this is what i got

          THANKS! WE'VE RECEIVED YOUR REQUEST.

A member of our team will be in touch mid-January to provide you with your free home backup.

Thanks for requesting a free year of home backup. This giveaway closes on January 12, so you'll hear from our team via email the second half of January.*

SO it should be GTG for AU customers too

        • +1

I signed up anyway, painless a form. Shall see what comes out in a couple weeks times. Happy new year to all

        • +1

Agreed, it's painless. You might as well do it. :-)

        • As mentioned, everyone might as well sign up…it's pretty easy.

Having been a long-term customer of CrashPlan, I'm highly doubtful this will honoured. But despite this it is an amazing product.

90210… My favourite address in the USA

  • Thanks OP… it's interesting, I read the official rules, and it says all this stuff about it being a sweepstakes and a giveaway. Will be interested to see what happens on the 12th.

  • +1

Use it for 1 year, get hooked, pay full price for 10 years.
    I like it! ;)

    • Yes. The online backup storage is unlimited, and fully versioned…so leaving CrashPlan can be very difficult.

Also annoyingly any discounting is only available for new customers only (e.g. the current 20% off sale).

      • There was a 50% off deal Nov last year to extend existing subscriptions by a year.

Needless to say, I took up the offer as like others I think it is a great product.

  • -1

nice deal but it seems similar to another post by trent

    • Link?

  • +1

Now I understand this says "home family", but would I be able to back up nonprofit servers with this? What are the terms?

Also, any terms on limits? Surely a company wouldn't allow true unlimited data storage… That'd be crazy.

    • +2

I have 8TB in crashplan and haven't heard anything from them about me using too much. Been using their one PC licence for years and threw it on my home server. If anyone in the family want their data backed up, they just store it on the server or place a copy there. It makes photo backups so simple.

  • question for those that are already on crashplan, how's the restore experience via cloud like?

is it big bang restore or you can pick individual files (from different dates/versions) to restore?

is the restoration a painful process?

    • File levels restores are possible…and in my experience are faster than the corresponding backup time.

      • Thanks for replying, is there a max file size to this or everything is transparent? (Eg back up a 2tb encrypted hdd image)

A lotta loyalty for a hired mod!

  • And n the conditions page it says

    1. Eligibility.

This promotion is open to legal residents of the U.S. who are eighteen (18) years of age or older at the time of entry.

    • Which according to the site rules should not be posted

      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/wiki/help:deal_posting_guidelin…

      • Some people might live in USA

      • ….which rule exactly?

        • +3

I believe he is referring to this rule "Is this deal available to Australia?"

        • If an OzBargain user can attain the deal, then it is available to Australia. If they can not, then it is not available to Australia. There are many deals that require a VPN or a US address to access the deal.

My previous experience with a similar Crashplan deal was that it was restricted to the US in the terms & conditions however, my free 1 year trial was able to be used in Australia.

  • Website says that it's ended :(

    • Because of violations of the Code42 Year In Review Q4 2014 Giveaway Official Rules located at http://essentials.code42.com/2014_12_29_YearInReview_EmailBl…, **particularly the eligibility of only US residents ** at least 18 years of age and Section 5 Conditions of Participation, the promotion has ended.

Affected entries will be contacted by Code42. Should you need additional information, please contact the Code 42 Customer Champion Support Team at http://support.code42.com.
